Running Isn't So Bad

Natasha and Steve are on the run and they stole another car.

It had been a few weeks since Sam left.

The travelling trio that they had gotten so used to, became a duo after Sam learned that his grandfather was on his death bed.

Natasha and Steve had encouraged him to leave. They both knew what it was like to lose family. They had each lost more people then they could count without a chance to say goodbye and they didn't want their friend to have to go through that.

So Sam had gotten a disguise and took the next train to the town his family was from.

Natasha and Steve had since been travelling state to state just trying to stay out of the government's sight.

They stopped a few criminals here and there, but do the most part they tried to remain low profile.

That is, until they had to steal another car.

The government had caught wind of them staying at a motel in a small town above Atlanta and in the middle of the night, they had been woken up by pounding on the doors.

Natasha had quietly crept to the window and peered outside, frowning when she saw Ross and a team of strike agents.

Quickly, she had gathered her and Steve's things and grabbed his hand as she dragged him out of bed, half asleep still.

Prying open the window, she found herself thankful that Ross hadn't been smart enough to surround the building.

She threw their bag onto the ground below and jumped out after it.

Steve followed her blindly, trustinf her enough to know that if she was doing some extreme, it was well worth it.

"Rogers, your gonna have to hijack a car for us," She said, running towards the parking lot of the hotel next to theirs and looking over her shoulder.

Steve frowned, "What?"

Natasha sighed, "In Washington, you hijacked a car. Can you do it again?"

Steve nodded and they ran for a small Toyota thats window had been left slightly ajar.

Natasha reached in and unlocked rhe door, gesturing for Steve to get it started.

He did so while she urged him to hurry up, seeing that Ross and his men were now running towards them.

"Got it," Steve said.

Natasha motioned for him to get into the passenger side of the car and she jumped in the driver's seat, slamming the door and flying out of the parking lot the second Steve had closed the door.

"Holy shit," Steve said, grabbing the handle bar as his eyes widened.

Natasha peered in her rear view mear and cursed, "Hold on..."

Steve did so, buckling his seat belt as she drove through red lights, narrowly avoiding the other cars on the road and making sharp turns to try and lose their followers.

After several sharp turns and several broken traffic laws, Natasha had successfully lost Ross and his men.

They were driving down a small country road when Steve offered to drive and let Natasha rest.

"You want me to drive for a while? You must be tired," Steve said, glancing over at Natasha, who was clearly exhausted.

"That's okay. We need to keep going," Natasha said, blinking to stay awake.

Steve frowned, "Come on Nat. It's not gonna do us any good to be sleep deprived. Let me drive for a few hours."

Giving in, Natasha sighed, "Okay. I'll stop at the next gas station. We need to fill up anyways."

Steve nodded and Natasha pulled over at the gas station, "Stay in the car for a second. I'm gonna go see what kind of deal I can get on this gas."

Steve frowned, a little confused but did as she said.

Minutes later, Natasha came back with a smirk and filled up the car without paying before getting in the passenger side.

"What'd you do?" Steve asked.

Natasha shrugged, "I just told the nice man running the cashier how I was running low on cash and desperately needed to get to my apartment tonight and he graciously gave me a free tank."

Steve laughed a little and shook his head, "You're incredible."

Natasha smirked and leaned her head against the window, closing her eyes, "I know."

Steve laughed again and focused on the road, driving down the boring highway for miles upon miles.

When they had been driving nearly ten hours, Natasha woke up.

"Where are we?" She asked.

"About an hour south of Chicago."

Natasha nodded, "Any ideas where we should go?"

Steve shook his head, "Do you still have a safe house on the great lakes?"

Natasha nodded.

"Well then I say we drop the car in Chicago and make our way there by train and foot."

Natasha nodded, "Sounds good."

They were silent for a while before Natasha looked over at Steve with a smirk.

"Tell me again how you learned to hot wire a car Rogers? I don't believe I got the full story the last time," Natasha teased, propping her feet on the dash board.

Steve shook his head smirking a bit, "My team and I were in Germany and we needed a way to sneak into a Nasi base. So we hotwired an abandoned tank to get in."

Natasha raised an eyebrow at Steve and he sighed, "And then after the mission we didn't feel like walking back so we stole a few Nazi's cars," Steve admitted.

Natasha laughed, "See that's a much better story. You should just lead with that."

Steve motioned to Natasha's boots resting on the dashboard and raised his eyebrows, "We're still borrowing, get your feet off the dash."

Natasha rolled her eyes with a smirk and looked out the window.

They dropped the car off a few miles later and took the subway about thirty miles away to get to a small bed and breakfast where they could stay the night without worrying about being found again.

Natasha had gotten them a discount by lying about how they were on their way home from a family reunion and their car had broken down miles away.

"We've already called someone to fix it, but they can't get us until tomorrow morning. And we have no cash on us," She lied, looking at the woman with fake tears building in her eyes.

Steve couldn't help but feel a little amazed at how easily she told the story. She was genius.

The old woman running the place had taken Natasha's hand in hers and smiled gently, "Don't you worry darling. I've got a room you and your husband can stay in for the night. And don't worry about paying. Just consider it my way of paying it forward."

Steve smiled at the woman and squeezed Natasha's hand, "Thank you ma'am, that's very kind of you."

She nodded and led Natasha and Steve to the room, "I make breakfast at nine but if you too need to head out before that, I understand completely."

Natasha nodded, "I'm afraid we should probably get going at seven. Thank you for the offer though."

"Of course. Anything you need, my room is just down the hall."

The two nodded and the woman walked away.

Steve sighed and slipped his shoes off, climbing into the bed next to Natasha.

"You think we'll ever be able to stop?" He asked.

"Stop what?"

Steve sighed, "Running, lying, living like criminals."

Natasha shrugged, "Technically we are criminals. At least according to the government."

Steve frowned, "I'm serious Nat. Do you think this will ever end?"

Natasha sighed, "Maybe. If there's ever another crisis, they may be so desperate for our help that our crimes will be forgiven. No matter what I know it'll get easier. Ross is stubborn but he won't chase us forever. One day, we might be okay staying at one safe house for a year or two."

Steve looked over at Natasha, turning on his side to do so, "And if not?"

Natasha gave him a sad smirk, "Then I guess running isn't so bad. I've got you with me to keep me entertained."

Steve laughed, "Yeah?"

Natasha nodded and her smirk turned into a genuine smile, "There's no one I'd rather run away with."

Steve smiled back and nodded, "Me neither."

What happened next was a spur of the moment instinct. It was as if they had read each other's minds instantaneously, realizing without words that all they really wanted in life was one another.

Natasha had surged forward to crash her lips against Steve's while his hand had instantly tangled in her red locks, responding to her passion almost immediately.

Natasha moaned quietly and tugged on Steve's neck, pulling him closer to her as he rolled them over so that he was on top of her.

"Natasha," He whispered against her lips desperately.

Natasha shook her head, pulling his face back down to kiss her, "Shut up."

Steve relented for a moment before regaining his senses and pulling away again. If this was going to happen, she needed to know why.

"I love you." He whispered breathlessly.

Natasha's swollen lips curved into a smile and she huffed out a laugh of relief and joy, "I love you too Steve. Now please shut up and kiss me."

Steve laughed and did as she said.

They continued making out for several more minutes until Natasha sighed and pushed Steve away, "We can't here... tomorrow. At the safe house. Then you can show me just how much you love me," she whispered, nipping lightly at Steve's ear.

He grinned and pressed a final kiss to her lips, "Sounds like a plan."

Natasha smirked and turned over, pressing her back against Steve's chest and holding his hand in both of hers as he wrapped his arm over her torso.

"Goodnight Steve." Natasha whispered, tracing the skin on his hand absentmindedly as she drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Steve smiled and kissed the back of her head gently, "Goodnight Nat. Love you."

Natasha shifted closer to Steve's chest and sighed, "Love you too," she whispered so quietly that Steve barely heard her.

He smiled to himself and closed his eyes.

Natasha was right, being on the run wasn't so bad. Not as long as they had each other.

Hey guys, once again. This well exceeds the length I expected and it's kind of similar to some other chapters, but I like the idea of Natasha and Steve running alone together and stealing cars so here it is.

Please vote and comment if you enjoyed! New year's Eve chapter coming tomorrow 😁
