Proposal

Requested by tainted_dreams. Steve proposes.

Steve stood in front of Natasha's door nervously, his foot couldn't stay still and he already felt like passing out.

He knocked and waited for Natasha quietly.

She opened the door with a smile on her face. "Hey soldier. You ready to go?" She asked, leaning up to give him a kiss on the cheek.

Steve nodded, smiling back. He grabbed Natasha's hand and led her outside.

"You wanna tell me where we are going?"

Steve shook his head. "Nah." He said with a teasing grin.

Natasha sighed. "Why is it that you always insist of surprises?"

Steve shrugged. "It's more fun that way."

Natasha let it go and wrapped her arm around Steve's. She rested her head on his shoulder as they walked, and just allowed herself to be happy with him.

He was the only one that could make her feel that way.

They kept walking until they arrived at a park.

Natasha furrowed her eyebrows. "A park?"

Steve waved her question off and pulled her along towards a large lake in the center.

"We're almost there." He promised.

They crossed a small bridge and found themselves standing in the middle of the lake with nothing but a small wooden hut above them and a narrow dock leading back to land.

Natasha looked out over the lake and smiled. "It's a nice view."

Steve nodded and fiddled with the ring in his pocket, reassuring himself it was still there.

"How'd you find it?" Natasha asked, still watching as the sun slowly began to set.

"I was out on a run and I ended up here. I don't think many people come out here so I wanted to bring you here. We can just talk, no distractions." Steve said, smiling as he sat down on the small bench overlooking the water.

Natasha smiled again and sat besides him, leaning onto him once again. "Sounds like a dream."

Steve nodded. "Lately everything with you has been a dream."

"Yeah?" Natasha asked.

He nodded. "No matter what I'm doing, how my day is going, who I'm with...you always make me happy. I couldn't dream of anything better then that."

Natasha squeezed Steve's hand. "You never fail to make me smile either. That's something no one else in this universe can say."

Steve smiled and looked down, blushing slightly. "Well, I'm honored."

Natasha smirked. "You should be."

Fiddling with the ring in his pocket again, Steve started to pull it out.

"Nat..." He started. Trailing off when he couldn't find the right words.

She hummed in response. "Hm?"

"I don't really know how to phrase this so bear with me?" He asked nervously.

Natasha nodded.

"When I met you, I knew there was something different about you. In all honesty you reminded me of Peggy and my home. Everything about you makes me never want to leave. So, what I keep trying to ask is will you marry me Nat?" He said holding out the ring and getting on one knee.

Natasha smiled down at Steve and bent down to his level, kissing him gently on the lips and nodding.

"Yes. I'll marry you." She said trying to hold back her excitement.

Steve grinned ear to ear. "Really?"

Natasha laughed. "Yes. Did you really think I'd say no?"

Steve shrugged. "I was worried that maybe marriage wasn't something you wanted."

"It wasn't a few years ago. But now that I have you, there aren't many things that sound better then spending my whole life with you." She said, kissing him again as he slipped the small ring onto her finger.

It was a simple ring. Just a thin silver band with a small diamond. It was practical and beautiful. Just like Natasha.

Steve gently raised her hand and kissed it with a smile on his face. "I love you."

Natasha smiled and rested her forehead on his. "I love you too."

They kissed once more in the light of the sunset before going back to the compound. Steve never letting go of Natasha's hand.

The same hand that held the symbol of their undying love.

Steve couldn't help but run his fingers over the ring every so often, just to reassure himself it wasn't a dream and that she had really said yes.

Luckily for him, she had.
