Pregnant
Requested by romanogersfanfics. Natasha is pregnant with Steve's child but they haven't told the avengers yet. They all are suspicious and try to figure it out.
Natasha hadn't believed it at first. There was no way. It wasn't physically even possible. Surely she had just gotten a faulty test.
Natasha rushed out of the bathroom and pushed past Steve on her way to Shield's doctors.
She pulled her hoodie over her face until she was at the front desk. "I need to see Helen."
The receptionist nodded, recognizing Natasha. She led her into a back room and had her sit on the examination table until Helen could see her.
"Mrs. Romanoff, what's going on?"
"I need you to do a pregnancy test. An accurate one." She demanded.
Helen did so and Natasha was both shocked and terrified to find out that it was positive.
She listened half heartedly as Helen told her that Steve's super serum had probably undone the infertility.
As soon as she got the chance, Natasha ran back to Steve.
When he saw her, he stood up from the couch, concerned after watching her run out.
Natasha didn't give him a chance to speak before quickly walking over to him and burying her head in his shoulder, clinging onto him like he was her last breath.
Steve stumbled back, confused and worried from her actions. He hugged her back and placed his hand on the back of her head delicately.
"Natasha? Are you ok?"
Still shaken up from the news, Natasha just nodded and inhaled deeply.
She stood in his embrace for a while longer before realizing how worried he must be. She slowly broke away from his grasp and squeezed his hand.
"I'm sorry if I worried you, I just... I found out some pretty big news and I'm scared."
Steve nodded, encouraging her to go on.
"You know how I've been sick lately? And weak and tired and all that." Natasha said, trying to figure out how to break the news.
"Oh my god, you don't have like a disease do you?" Steve asked, his eyes lighting up with fear.
"No, no. Not excactly...Steve, I'm pregnant."
Steve blinked. "You're pregnant?"
Natasha nodded, swallowing the lump that had formed in her throat.
A smile formed on Steve's face and he squeezed Natasha's hand. "Nat, this is amazing...you aren't upset are you?"
Natasha shook her head. "No, not upset...just scared. Steve, I was supposed to be infertile. What if....what if the pregnancy fails and we lose the baby? Helen doesn't even know how I got pregnant."
Steve kissed her forehead gently. "We'll figure it out Nat. I promise. I don't know much about pregnancies, but I do know that stress is bad for the baby."
Natasha sighed and nodded, trying to relax. "Okay. But promise me one thing...until we do figure this out, don't tell anyone. I don't want everyone getting let down if the test was wrong or if god forbid something happens."
Steve nodded. "If that's what you want." He promised.
It was, so from then on out, Natasha and Steve did everything in their power to conceal Natasha's early pregnancy. She took it easy on missions, stopped drinking, and got sick all the time so people were obviously suspicious.
The first odd thing they noticed was her fighting during the mission.
Natasha had always been someone who hit first. So when the avengers noticed that she was hesitant during one of their missions, they noticed.
Tony was already frustrated when he had noticed it. "Romanoff, stop being so damn cautious and take out some of these soldiers. Since when have you been afraid of getting hit?"
Natasha rolled her eyes and Steve clenched his jaw. "Not all of us are wearing an iron suit Tony. We actually get injured when someone shoots us."
Tony rolled his eyes and continued fighting.
The truth was that Natasha was worried she would take a bullet or punch to her stomach and lose the possible baby she had always wanted but didn't think she could have.
Luckily for her, the avengers brushed her cautiousness off as excactly what she had said it was. A desire to not be shot.
The second time the avengers grew suspicious was when Tony threw a major party and Natasha refused to drink.
"Come on Natasha, have a glass of wine, celebrate. What's the hold up?"
Natasha declined the drink and shrugged. "I'm not in the mood right now."
A drunken Tony stumbled over to Natasha and laughed. "Don't you get it guys? She doesn't want wine...she wants vodka! I'll go get you some." He said stumbling away.
Natasha shook her head. "Tony I'm not drinking anything. Don't even bother trying."
Steve wrapped his arm around Natasha, knowing how irritated she was getting.
She needed a drink now more then ever.
She eventually got tired of the nagging and went to bed, Steve following behind her.
The third thing making everyone suspicious was when Natasha would skip breakfast because she was sick.
Steve tried to cover for her...he really did. Unfortunately, he was a terrible liar.
"Hey Capsicle. Where's Natasha?" Tony asked.
"She said she wasn't hungry."
Tony frowned. "She's not even gonna come have coffee with the team? Jeez Rogers, how late were you two up last night?"
Steve blushed. "I- No really- she's just not hungry."
Thor shrugged. "Lord Steven is lying to us."
Luckily for Steve, Natasha came into the room, pale and sickly looking but she still came.
"Romanoff, you look awful. Cap keep you up too late?" Tony asked
Natasha rolled her eyes. "No, I'm just a little sick. Ask anymore question and we are gonna have issues." She said, rubbing her head and giving Steve a quick kiss.
"Feel any better?" He whispered.
She shrugged. "It's called morning sickness for a reason. I'll be fine by noon."
Tony stood up and rolled his eyes. "Alright, something is up with you two. Natasha's been acting strange for weeks and Cap, you don't seem to be concerned at all."
Natasha squeezed Steve's hand and glared at Tony. "Please Tony, elaborate."
"You won't drink, you are hesitant on missions and during training, you skip out on breakfast every morning...you've even cut back on coffee!"
Bruce looked up quickly from his book. "Oh my god."
Natasha cringed internally. Of course Bruce would figure it out when Tony listed out the symptoms.
Tony frowned. "What? Am I missing something??"
Thor and Clint nodded. "I'm lost too. Please enlighten us." Clint said.
Bruce furrowed his eyebrows. "You said it wasn't possible."
Natasha sighed. "It wasn't."
"But you are?" He asked.
Natasha nodded.
Tony looked between the two with wide eyes. "What the hell is going on?! Please explain!"
Natasha whipped around to face him. "Stop being so damn stupid Tony. Listen to the symptoms and you could have figured it out. I'm pregnant."
The room fell quiet and Tony let out a soft, "Oh."
"Steve and I were waiting to tell you guys because it's a high risk pregnancy that wasn't even supposed to be possible. We didn't want to bring other people into it, but clearly you all had other ideas." She said, rolling her eyes.
Tony sighed. "I'm sorry Natasha. I didn't know."
She shrugged and accepted his apology. "I know. That was the point of us not telling you."
Clint engulfed Natasha in a hug, knowing that she had always wanted a child. "I'm happy for you Natasha. Unless I don't get to be Uncle Clint. Then I won't be happy for you."
Natasha laughed. "We'll see."
Thor and Bruce also congratulated them before everyone left and Steve was left alone with Natasha.
"You ok?" Steve asked. "I know that's not how you wanted this to go."
She shrugged. "I'm fine. At least now we don't have to hide it. Maybe telling everyone will be better."
Steve smiled and kissed Natasha's forehead. "We'll see."
