One Night Always Turns into Something More
After Steve and Natasha have a one night stand one night after one of Tony's parties, they deal with the new feelings between them.
Natasha didn't know what had happened.
One second she was sitting alone at the bar and trying to drown her feelings in vodka.
Then a man had sat besides her and tried to buy her a drink.
"What's a pretty lady like you doing alone at the bar?" He had asked, leaning on the bar and smirking at her.
Natasha had to fight the urge not to roll her eyes, "Enjoying the peace and quiet."
The man's grin faultered but he didn't give up, "Can you do that while I buy you a drink?"
"Not if you keep talking." Natasha said, finishing off the rest of her drink and motioning for the bartender to bring her another drink.
The guy shrugged and sat down next to Natasha, making her roll her eyes. She really, really, did not want to deal with men tonight.
After a few minutes of silence, the man spoke again, clearly not taking Natasha's hints.
"So, do you always spend parties alone at a bar or is this a rare sight?"
Natasha didn't even look over at him, "Do you always bother women who clearly want to be left alone or am I just the exception?"
The man frowned, "Look, I'm just trying to be nice."
"Bullshit. I know guys like you. You think flirting with a girl and buying her a drink is gonna get her into your bed. Sorry to disappoint, but I've got better things to do tonight."
She downed the rest of her drink and placed it back on the counter hard enough that the people around her flinched.
"Thanks for the drink." She said walking towards the elevator.
She got in and pressed her floor number when she heard someone yell for her to hold the doors.
Despite the internal groan she let out, she did so, breathing a sigh of relief when she saw it was Steve.
"Thanks Nat." Steve said, slipping through the doors.
She nodded and pressed his floor number as well.
"Leaving the party early?" She asked.
Steve nodded, "Not much to do at a party when you can't get drunk. Why are you heading up so early?"
"Just not really in the mood for a party I guess." Natasha replied, leaning against the wall, finding her eyes scanning Steve's body up and down.
Maybe it was just the blue suit he was wearing, but he looked hot.
He noticed her staring and blushed looking down at his feet.
Natasha took a few steps closer to Steve and looked up at him when they were only a few inches apart, "What are you thinking right now?" She asked quietly, her voice husky.
Steve stuttered, "I don't know. I'm wondering what's happening...and I'm thinking about how great you look in that dress." He admitted honestly.
Natasha smirked, "Wanna be the one to take it off me?"
Steve choked on the air around him and coughed as Natasha stepped closer.
"Is that a yes Rogers?" Natasha asked, running her fingers along his jaw.
Steve nodded quickly and leaned down to passionately kiss Natasha, pushing her back against the wall.
"My room or yours?" He asked between kissing her.
Natasha moaned, "Mine."
Steve nodded and as soon as the doors to her floor opened he stumbled into her hallways, holding Natasha's face in his hands as she fumbled with the keys while kissing him.
They managed to open the door and pulled apart for a moment.
Within moments, they were stripping down in her bedroom.
Natasha stopped kissing him for a second and put her hand on his shoulder, if they were going to do this she needed to make sure he understood something.
"Steve this is just sex right? No feelings, no attachments. Just one night of giving into our weaknesses." She mumbled as he kissed her neck.
Steve nodded, "Yeah, got it." He said not stopping for even a second.
Natasha pushed him off and held his face in her hands gently, making eye contact with him, "Steve I'm serious. I need to know that this isn't going to have any feelings involved."
"It won't Nat. We're just friends. Friends who happen to be really attracted to one another."
Natasha smiled and pushed Steve back onto her bed, crawling over him, "Sounds like a great friendship if you ask me."
---------------
The next morning, Natasha woke up and found herself wrapped in Steve's arm.
He was still asleep when she woke up and for a moment, Natasha considered leaving like she normally did after a night with a man.
But then she remembered that not only was this her apartment, but the man was Steve, her best friend and work partner.
Plus, she certainly didn't mind staying in his warm embrace a little longer.
She relaxed back into his arms and let herself drift off to sleep again.
The next time she woke up, Steve was no longer besides her.
She frowned, wondering if he had left or if he regretted the night before.
Natasha sat up and looked around the room, his clothes were still scattered on the ground where they had been the night before.
She got out of the bed and slipped on of Steve's hoodies that she had way before that night even happened.
Walking out of her bedroom, she heard the oven beeping and smiled a little.
She walked into the kitchen and saw Steve pulling out a tray of cinnamon rolls from the oven.
"Morning," Natasha said, trying to stop her heart from growing at the sight of him. She had been the one to say no feelings attached.
"Morning," Steve said, smiling at her, "How'd you sleep?"
Natasha sat on the counter besides where he was finishing the rolls, "Great. I was exhausted after last night."
Steve blushed a little and smirked, "Me too."
Silence fell between them and Natasha found herself feeling ancy.
All she wanted to do right now was kiss the hell out of Steve....which she definitely could do if she wanted but she also knew that her reason for wanting to kiss him was not just because she was attracted to him, it was because of his damn smile and the way that his eyes sparkled when he looked at her.
She cursed herself mentally. No feelings. That's what they had agreed on, and yet here she was here morning after already falling headfirst for him.
"You hungry?" Steve finally asked, holding out a plate to her.
Natasha nodded and laughed a little, "Starving."
Steve smiled and handed her the plate with some fruit, bacon, and a cinnamon roll.
She sighed and shook her head a little, he was making it very difficult to keep all emotions out of it.
What kind of guy makes the girl he had a one night stand with a huge home-cooked breakfast?
"This is amazing," Natasha complimented, sitting besides him.
"Thanks, I'm glad you like it."
Natasha nodded and went back to eating. Silence fell between them again and Natasha noticed that Steve looked uncomfortable.
"You alright?" Natasha asked.
Steve nodded, "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine, I just....you don't regret last night do you?"
Natasha frowned, "No, not at all. Do you?"
Steve shook his head, "Not even a little."
"Good," Natasha said, smiling a little.
They finished their breakfast and Steve looked over at the clock, "I should probably go back to my room. It's almost eleven and we have a team meeting at noon."
Natasha sighed, "I forgot about that."
Steve smiled, "I'll see you there?"
"Yeah," Natasha said, fighting the urge to kiss him goodbye.
He left for the elevator and Natasha closed the door with a sigh.
It hadn't even been a full day and she already had a hard time keeping her emotions in check when it came to him.
She wasn't even sure why she had made him agree that it was just sex...it wasn't. At least, not for her.
If she was being honest with herself, she had been in love with him for months now... probably closer to a year.
Steve wasn't going to hurt her. He was the most caring and genuine person she knew. The only thing a relationship with him would bring was her own happiness.
Natasha cursed herself and went back into her bedroom, laying down in the same spot where Steve had been only a few hours ago.
Closing her eyes, Natasha sighed and whispered quietly to herself, "You're a damn fool."
----------------------
The next few months went by slowly and painfully for Natasha.
Her and Steve hadn't been awkward around each other but it was definitely not as easy to talk to him as it had been before they slept together....probably because now, Natasha's problems all dealt with her feelings for him.
She had to restrain herself every day when they talked to not just inturrupt him with a kiss.
Her willpower was being pushed to the limits and she didn't know how long she was going to be able to control herself.
She was making herself a cup of coffee when footsteps approached from behind her.
Natasha could tell that it was Steve so she didn't bother turning away.
"Morning," She said, still facing the coffee pot.
"Good morning," Steve replied.
Natasha grabbed her finished coffee and turned to Steve...who looked very tired and uncomfortable.
"Rough night sleeping?" Natasha asked, concern written all over her face.
"I guess... didn't get much sleep."
Natasha nodded in understanding, "Nightmares?"
Steve shrugged, "Not really. Just got stuck up all night thinking."
Natasha tossed him a playful smirk, "Thinking huh? That's a dangerous buissness, mind if I ask what you were thinking about?"
"You," Steve said honestly, looking into her eyes with concern.
Natasha frowned, "Me?"
Steve nodded, "That night when we slept together....you made me promise that there was no feelings attached, that it was just a one night thing. No emotional commitment."
Natasha nodded, trying not to let him see how much she regretted saying that.
"Well, I was wrong. I said I could do that but I can't Nat. I can't pretend that that night didn't mean anything to me because it did."
Natasha's breath hitched and she took a step closer to Steve, "Then don't."
"What?"
"Don't pretend it meant nothing. Tell me what it really meant it you."
Steve sighed, "Natasha..."
"Please Steve. I need to hear you say this."
"It meant the world to me Nat, because frankly I've been in love with you for longer then I care to admit. I can't even be in the same room as you without getting butterflied in my stomach."
Steve looked down and sighed, "I feel like a damn asshole for pretending I could do it without any emotional commitment."
Natasha forced a dry chuckle and circled her arms around Steve's neck, "Then I guess we're both assholes. Because I love you too."
Steve's head shot up and his eyes widened, "What?"
"I love you too Steve. I made a mistake. I should have never said that. I was kidding myself if I thought that was a possibility."
Steve laughed in relief and grabbed Natasha's face in his hands gently, kissing her passionately.
Natasha kissed him back and dropped her coffee on the counter, wrapping her legs around Steve's waist.
"Upstairs. Now please." She commanded between kissed.
Steve smiled, "Yes ma'am."
