One by One They're Leaving Me

All of the avengers slowly moving out of the avengers facility until it's only Natasha.

Bruce was the first to leave.

He had came to Natasha and the other avengers one night a few weeks after the snap and told them he was moving to India.

"I gotta figure some stuff out, and maybe get back to some of my work. I can't do that here, so I'm going to India." He had told them.

Natasha had been sad of course, but she still had Tony, Thor, and Steve.

Tony had taken it the worst. Bruce was the other scientist in the facility. And although he would never admit it, he liked having someone else with the same interests as him around.

Bruce had left the next morning. There was no promise to come back, all he said was that he would try to keep in touch.

Natasha and the others had stood outside the facility and watched as Bruce drove towards the airport.

Thor was next.

A few months after Bruce's departure. Thor got news that some of his people had settled down in a small town and needed him to rule them.

They all knew it would happen eventually. Thor had hardly said a word since the snap and they knew he would soon leave to be with his people, but they had hoped he might stay a little while longer.

He hadn't had much time to say goodbye. He was anxious to get to his people.

He had came into the training room early one morning and told the three remaining avengers that he was leaving.

"My people need me. I'm departing in a quarter of an hour."

Natasha had given him a hug goodbye and wished him good luck.

This time, they all stood outside and watched as he used his axe to fly to the new Asgard.

Steve had grabbed her hand gently, sensing her sadness at Thor's departure.

Tony and Pepper were next.

They left on a happier note. It was about a year after the snap when Tony and Pepper had come to Steve and Natasha in the living room to tell them the good news.

"I'm pregnant." Pepper said.

Steve and Natasha congratulated them both and they all spent the night celebrating.

Right before they all went to bed, Tony dropped the news.

"We found a cottage. It's a few hours from here. And, we decided it's best if we raise the baby out there. So we are moving out next week."

Natasha's smile faded, but she tried to hide her disappointment. Now Tony? She knew the logic behind it made sense but it still hurt.

Pepper and him had been two of her closest friend, even if she would never tell Tony that.

"Of course, you two can visit anytime. And we will try and come see you guys all the time." Pepper added.

Steve nodded and discreetly glanced over at Natasha, trying to read her expression.

He had noticed how each person leaving seemed to make her more and more upset.

He knew that the avengers were her family. She didn't have anyone but them, and Clint had been missing since the snap.

Steve promised himself that he wouldn't leave her too. He didn't want to leave her alone, especially since he was all she had left now.

The next week, Steve and Natasha helped Tony and Pepper pack up their stuff and get the moving van ready.

"Call us when the baby is born ok?" Natasha told Pepper.

Pepper promised she would and they all said their goodbyes.

Steve and Natasha stood on the sidewalk and watched as the moving van slowly drove away.

Steve once again grabbed Natasha's hand and put his other arm around her shoulders.

"Guess it's just us now." He mumbled.

Natasha leaned her head on Steve's shoulder, enjoying the feeling of being in his arms. "Yeah. I guess it is."

The next few years were nice for both of them. Natasha kept up with all of the avengers and spent a lot of time with Steve.

The feelings she had been harboring for him only grew and it became more difficult every day to keep them hidden.

She wanted so badly to act on them, but after the snap, so many people had lost the people they loved. She felt like it was wrong for her to finally get her happiness after so many people had lost theirs.

So she waited. She kept herself busy by running the avengers facility, watching movies with Steve, training, and she had even picked up her old hobby of dancing.

The days went by slowly, but her life was pretty good.

But then he left too.

She had been training when he had came into the room behind her.

She didn't have to turn around to notice his presence. He wasn't excactly stealthy.

"Hey Steve, what's up?" She asked, turning away from the punching bag.

"Can't a friend visit a friend?" He asked sheepishly and she could tell something was wrong.

"Yeah, but I get the feeling that's not why you're here." She said, taking off her gloves and walking towards him.

She looked up into his eyes and frowned when she realized how nervous he was. "What's wrong?"

Steve frowned. "I found an apartment."

Natasha's features fell and she felt like her heart dropped into her ribcage.

"Oh."

Steve grabbed her hand, "Look, it's just down the street from here and I'm not moving in for a couple more months. I just, I felt like I needed to move on with my life. Ever since the snap, I feel like I've been stuck." He lied.

Natasha felt a lump in her throat but she tried to swallow it. "Ok." She said. Not being able to find anything else to say.

"Please don't hate me Natasha. If you don't want me to go, I'll stay. I just can't keep pretending time stopped. I want to go help people." Steve said, only partly lying.

He couldn't tell Natasha the real reason he was leaving.

The real reason was because he was in too much pain living in the same facility as Natasha.

Every day, his feelings for her grew. He was completely in love with her and knew that if she knew, it could ruin their entire friendship.

He wondered if she felt the same, but ultimately decided that if she did, she would have acted on it by now. Natasha wasn't the type to wait for someone else to make a move.

So he did the cowardly thing and tried to run from his pain.

Natasha tried to hide all of the pain she felt but Steve could tell she was upset. "No, no. I could never hate you Steve. You should go. It'll be good for you."

"What about you?"

Natasha forced a smile. "I'll be fine. I can keep running the facility and I'll come visit you at your apartment whenever I get bored."

"You sure?" Steve asked. Praying that she would tell him to stay. Wishing that maybe she felt the same and would just confess her feelings in hopes that he would stay. But she just nodded.

"Yeah. I'll be ok." Natasha lied.

Steve pulled her into a tight hug and sighed. "I-" He started, but then stopped himself. "Nevermind." He mumbled.

Natasha looked up at him. "What is it?"

Steve shook his head and hugged her again. "Nothing. I'm just gonna miss you."

Natasha sighed. "I'll miss you too. Promise me you'll visit."

"Promise."

Natasha smiled up at him. "Good."

The next few weeks weren't the same. There was a tension between Natasha and Steve that neither one of them was willing to break. So things were awkward between them.

The day Steve moved out was probably the hardest day since the snap for Natasha.

It was night when he had finally put most of his stuff in the moving van and was getting ready to leave.

Natasha walked him outside and tried to stop the tears that were building in the corner of her eyes.

"You got everything?" She asked Steve, standing in front of the moving van.

He nodded. "I think so. If not, I'm only 20 minutes away."

Natasha nodded and smiled sadly. "Okay. I guess this is goodbye for now then."

Steve grabbed both of Natasha's hand and sighed. "Once I get settled in, you should come over for dinner."

Natasha nodded. "As long as you cook."

"Of course."

"Good. Then I'll be there."

Steve smiled and it slowly faded. "I guess I should get going now."

Natasha nodded. "Don't cause any trouble, okay soldier?"

Steve nodded. "I won't. I'll see you soon okay."

Natasha forced another smile. "Okay. Now go, I'm getting cold." She joked.

Steve laughed and pulled her into a tight hug. She wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed in his scent one more time before he left. He put his hand on the back of her head.

Slowly, he pulled apart a small bit. "Goodbye Nat."

Natasha placed a quick kiss on his cheek and backed away slowly. "Bye Steve. I'll see you soon."

Steve smiled at her and got into the trunk.

The engine came on and Natasha fought back tears as she watched the moving van slowly back down the driveway.

She stood outside staring down the driveway for a long time. This time, there was no one to console her, no one to tell her it was just them now, no one to keep her company.

She was alone.

So, updates are happening pretty quickly right now but they will probably die down next week bc I am going to be at the beach.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I know there wasn't much romance but I felt like it was more realistic to leave it here.

I would be open to the possibility of a part two if anyone is interested. Let me know if you think I should do one.

Please comment and vote if you enjoyed.
