Living in the Moment
Christmas with James and Sarah
"Mama! Daddy! Wake up! It's Christmas!" James said bursting into his parents bedroom and jumping into their bed, followed by his younger sister Sarah.
Sarah jumped up and down on the bed and giggled as her parents groaned at the sudden noise.
"What time is it?" Steve asked, lifting his head up to look at his children while Natasha buried her head in his chest to avoid the light.
"Almost seven," James said, eliciting a groan from Natasha.
Steve laughed a bit and rubbed Natasha's hand, "Why are you up so early?" He teased, scooping Sarah into his arms
Sarah giggled again, "Because it's Christmas daddy!"
Steve laughed and tickled the young girl, "Is it? I must've forgotten."
James bounced up and down again, "Can we go open presents now? I think Santa came!"
Steve shrugged, "You better wake your mom up first."
Natasha glared at Steve with one eye and sighed when both kids began jumping on her, "Mommy! Get up!" Sarah yelled.
Natasha groaned again but opened her eyes slowly, "Five more minutes," She whispered before closing her eyes again.
James giggled and shook his head, "No! We have to open our presents."
Finally sitting up, Natasha turned to Steve with a small smirk and faked confusion, "Presents? Who said you were getting presents?"
Sarah frowned, "Santa Claus!"
Natasha laughed a little bit, "Alright alright, we'll go see if you have anything to open."
The two kids both cheered and ran out of the bedroom, waiting patiently at the top of the stairs like they did every year.
Steve turned to Natasha and kissed her on the lips gently, "Merry Christmas."
Natasha smiled softly and kissed him again, "Merry Christmas."
Steve grinned and got out of bed, "Come on, we better get these kiddos some food and presents."
Natasha laughed, "I'm coming."
She got out of the bed and wrapped her blanket around herself before walking towards the stairs with Steve.
Steve stopped the kids on the stairs and took pictures while Natasha went to the kitchen and made coffee.
"Dad! No more pictures! We want to see if Santa came!" James yelled.
Natasha laughed and walked to her husband's side, handing him a coffee and smiling, "Alright, you guys can come down."
Both of the kids practically jumped off the steps and ran into the living room that held the tree and a bunch of gifts, courtesy of "santa".
Natasha smiled over at Steve who was watching their children with a twinkle in his eyes.
"I guess you guys made it on Santa's good list this year." He said, sitting on the couch besides Natasha and wrapping his arm around her while she leaned her head on his shoulder.
They both grinned and began emptying out their stockings, getting excited about each item inside.
Steve smiled at Natasha who found herself unable to stop smiling.
James and Sarah opened all their gifts before it was even nine o clock and then fell asleep on the floor with their gifts surrounding them.
Natasha turned to Steve and handed him a small box, "Merry Christmas."
Steve smiled at her and looked down at the gift, "Did I make it on the nice list too?"
Natasha grinned, "You made it on my nice list, I don't know about Santa's." She teased.
Steve laughed and began unwrapping the gift.
Inside was a small box that contained a compass like the one he had of Peggy, except inside this one was a picture of his family.
He had his arms wrapped around Natasha, who was laughing at something he had said, and little James and Sarah were looking up at their parents with wide grins on their faces.
"This isn't meant to replace the one you have with Peggy, I had Tony help me make it because this one will always lead you back to our house. So you can always find your way back to us," Natasha explained with a soft smile.
Steve ran his thumb over the picture and smiled, "I love it. Thank you so much Nat. This is incredible."
Natasha smirked a little, "I'm glad."
Steve kissed her gently before standing up and reaching underneath the Christmas tree to pull out a gift.
"This is for you too." He said, handing it to Natasha.
Natasha smiled and opened the gift.
She pulled the frame out of the box and turned it over to look at the contents.
Inside was a world map with white pins all over except for one red pin that looked to be where they lived now.
"What's this?" Natasha asked, studying the location of each pin.
Steve smiled, "Every white pin is one of the motels or abandoned houses we stayed at when we were on the run together. Then the red one is our home. It's meant to show how far we've come."
Natasha's smile grew and she looked up at Steve and kissed him, "This is incredible. How did you remember all those locations?"
Steve shrugged, "I kept track while we were on the run. Just in case we needed the information. It came in handy for this."
Natasha laughed, "I love this, and I love you. I can't imagine having this life with anyone but you."
Steve nodded and pulled Natasha into his arms, "You'll never have to. And I love you too."
They looked down at James and Sarah sleeping on the ground and both of their hearts fluttered a little bit at their two children who were living proof of the love that Steve and Natasha shared.
James' bright red hair was almost excactly like Natasha's while his eyes were a spitting image of his father's.
Sarah on the other hand looked almost identical to Natasha except for her blonde hair that was the only thing giving her any resemblance to Steve.
"Should we wake them?" Natasha asked.
Steve shook his head, "Let's let them sleep for a bit. It'll give us a chance to just enjoy the moment."
Natasha smiled and kissed Steve softly, "Fine by me."
Steve laughed and kissed her back, "Merry Christmas Natasha."
"Merry Christmas Steve." Natasha said, kissing him passionately and hoping that the kids didn't wake up anytime soon.
