In Memory Of...
Part 2 of in the wrong time, Steve visits Nat's memorial. Requested by literally 10 people😂
Steve walked quietly through the rain. It was late, and it had been storming nearly all day.
Steve had just gotten back. After reuniting with Bucky and Sam he had hoped to wait for the rain to pass before visiting Natasha's memorial.
But once he decided that the rain would likely continue for hours he had grabbed his umbrella and rain coat and began walking anyways.
He hadn't seen the memorial yet and he couldn't help but worry the city had constructed something that wouldn't capture the legacy she had left behind.
As he approached the street that had been named after the team, he could see Tony's statue.
He knew Natasha's memorial was nearby so he slowly began looking around.
Soon enough he found it.
Further down the street from Tony's statue, there was a semi circle wall made out of concrete surrounding a large fountain.
The wall had been broken into several pieces and on each one there was a different carving.
The first image was one of Natasha battling in New York.
The second was of her fighting Ultron a few years later.
The third showed a less know side of Natasha. It was a depiction of one of the parties Tony had thrown where the six avengers had all been trying to pick up Thor's hammer. It showed Natasha sitting with a smile on her face as she watched all four of the other avengers try to combine their strength to pick it up.
The fourth wall was of Natasha helping a victim of the bombing in Wakanda.
The fifth was of her battling alongside Steve in Wakanda against Thanos' minions.
The last one was of her giving a press conference after the snap.
Steve remembered the speech well. She had given people hope. Natasha had stepped up to the plate and reassured everyone that although no one had gone without loss, they could all work through it.
The final wall was a thank you. It was the longest wall and had engraved signatures of thousands of people who wanted to thank Natasha for everything she had done.
The fountain in the middle was a intricately designed structure with a metal engravement dedicating the whole memorial to Natasha.
Steve held back tears as he walked towards the statue of her built just behind the memorial. Flowers, letters, and pictures covered the surrounding ground.
It all made Steve wish that Natasha was there to see it. To see how many people she had an impact on. How many people missed her.
As he looked around at the things people had done for her, grief overcame him and Steve fell to his knees.
Steve dropped his umbrella and let the rain completely soak him.
"Nat, I miss you so much." He said to no one, hoping that maybe she could hear him.
"I feel more alone then ever. My entire life feels pointless. How am I supposed to move on without you?" He asked, hanging his head.
Setting pulling out the small bundle of red and black roses from the safety of his rain coat, Steve set them down next to the statue and sighed.
"I really wish you were still here." He whispered.
Behind him, Steve heard someone clear their throat.
"You know, it's a lot easier to deal with loss when you talk to someone." Clint said, approaching Steve.
Steve sighed and stood up. "Talk about what? How bad I miss her? I already tried that. It didn't work."
Clint stared at the statue and sighed. "With who?"
Steve looked at the ground. "Before I came back I went back to right after I was in the ice. Reunited with my first love. I thought maybe being with her would help me move on from Nat. It didn't. Even after I told Peggy the truth it hurt."
"What do you mean move on from?" Clint asked, suddenly realizing why Steve was so torn up about Natasha's death.
"I loved her. It just took me too long to tell her." Steve admitted.
Clint sighed. "She felt the same you know... I didn't realize it at the time but looking back it's so obvious."
"Please don't say that just to make me feel better."
Clint furrowed his eyebrows. "I'm not. Natasha never showed any interest in guys before you. Her job was to remain emotionally unattached at all times. Then you came along and suddenly you two were watching movies together every weekend. I don't know how I didn't see it sooner." He said, shaking his head.
Steve's eyes filled with tears and he shook his head. "It's too late now. I missed my chance. Whether she felt the same or not isn't important. She's gone."
Clint nodded sadly, moving his gaze to the ground. "You know, I always thought that if it really came down to it, I could at least hold my own in a fight against her. But on Vormir, god, I didn't even stand a chance. I tried so hard to be the one who died. She deserved to live. But she fought to be the one to die because she's a hero. And the only thing we have left to do is make sure her sacrifice isn't forgotten."
"How do we do that?" Steve asked, looking back up at Clint.
"We live like she would have wanted us to. For me, that's spending time with my family. She died so I could have more time with them. I don't know what it is for you, but I promise, once you figure it out it will be a whole lot easier to live without her." Clint said standing up.
He put a hand on Steve's shoulder and sighed. "I'm gonna get going. Try not to stay here all night." Clint said, walking away.
Steve sighed and looked down.
Natasha's smile played in Steve's head and he ultimately decided what he needed to do.
He would start a new avengers training facility. One completely separate from Shield or Hydra.
The Romanoff and Stark Avengers Facility. Founded to train and provide a home for all the current and upcoming avengers.
On the first day of it's opening Steve thought back to his first day training new recruits with Natasha.
Standing in front of the newer avengers like Shuri, Peter Parker, Bucky, Sam, and Wanda, Steve couldn't help but think of Natasha.
"Avengers...."
