Ice Skating

The team goes Ice Skating

Natasha really didn't understand the point of team bonding.

She had been apart of the Avengers for a little less then six months and she thought that regardless of 'bonding', they worked well as a team.

Natasha also didn't bond with people. It just wasn't in her nature. Besides a select few, acquaintanceship was the best relationship she had with people she worked with.

But despite this, she went along with Tony's stupid excursions for the free food and drinks.

Occasionally she would even get a little bit of enjoyment out of watching the men of the team fail miserably at task that were not that difficult for Natasha.

So when Tony had decided they were going ice skating, Natasha was a little more excited than normal.

Having been trained in ballet for years in the red room, she was pretty graceful and could skate better then most.

Her teammates on the other hand...she would bet they didn't have quite as much grace.

She was right of course.

As soon as they had gotten to the rink that tiny had rented out, it was clear that she would be the only one there actually skating.

Thor struggled to put skates on.

Steve looked confused and nervous to even be standing on the thin blades.

Tony had gone in overly confident and had fallen before even getting on the ice.

Bruce had been clutching the the wall since his skates were tied and he didn't look happy to be there.

Clint was on the ice already, but he was sitting down and pushing himself forward rather then skating.

Natasha rolled her eyes and walked towards the rink with ease.

She stepped on and turned around to look at Steve, who was trying to get on the ice as well.

He pushed off the ground and stumbled forward, looking like a baby deer on stilts.

Natasha expected him to fall but he somehow he managed to regain his balance before falling, holding his arms out side and looking at her with wide eyes.

"How do I do this?" He asked, not moving a muscle.

Natasha smirked, "Are you asking for my help Rogers?"

Steve nodded, "Please."

Natasha skated towards him and held out her hand, "Give me your hand."

Steve blushed slightly but did so, "Now what?"

Natasha pushed forward, "Push off one blade while balancing on the other one."

Steve did as she said and narrowly avoiding falling.

"That doesn't seem right," Steve said, holding her hand tighter as his balance wobbled more.

Natasha shook her head with a small smirk, "That's because you're thinking too hard. Just go for it."

Steve frowned, "That feels like a good way to fall."

Natasha rolled her eyes, "Do you want my help or not?"

"Okay I'll try it," Steve said, part of him not wanting to fall but the other part just wanting to hold Natasha's hand as long as possible.

Secretly, Natasha didn't want to let go of his hand either.

Out of all the Avengers, she found herself drawn to him in a way she hadn't been with anyone else.

Maybe it was because he had a charm about him that only someone raised in the twenties could have, or maybe it was his pure desire to help people.

He just wanted to save people, and for some reason, it made him attractive as hell.

His looks certainly didn't hurt either. Natasha was pretty sure that if a perfect man existed, it was Steve Rogers.

She smiled slightly as he tried to skate again, this time going a little further but loosing his balance at the end, stumbling until Natasha placed her hand on his chest, steadying him.

"You alright there?" She teased, her hand not moving from right above his heart.

Steve nodded, his heart racing at their close proximity, "Maybe I should go to the wall."

Natasha shook her head, "C'mon. Are you really gonna give up that easy? Plus, the wall doesn't help much, look at Bruce."

Steve looked over at Bruce and saw him clutching to the wall, barely moving an inch before nearly falling again.

Steve cleared his throat to stop himself from laughing, "Maybe you should be helping him."

Natasha shrugged, "I'm sure he'll be fine."

Steve looked at the others and laughed, "He's doing better then the others."

Natasha turned to look at Tony and laughed.

He was trying to skate...he really was. But he could barely move without leaning back too far and falling on his ass.

Clint was full on sprinting on the toe picks on his skates, it was ungraceful, a little concerning, and at one point he slipped and flew into a wall.

And there was poor Thor who was trying so hard only to fall more then the rest of them combined.

"They're hopeless," Natasha laughed.

Steve laughed, "I would be too if you weren't helping me."

Natasha smirked, "Guess you're just lucky then."

Steve nodded, feeling like he may be getting the hang of it, "I definitely am. I actually think I'm starting to get it."

Natasha smiled as she skated besides him only to have to yank on his arm when he started to fall.

He pulled her towards him in a moment of panic and if she hadn't been prepared, he definitely would've pulled her down with him.

Instead Natasha grabbed both his shoulders and steadied them both, her face only centimeters from his by the time they were both standing still.

"Sorry," Steve breathed out quietly, his cheeks red and his heart racing.

Natasha backed away slowly and took his hand again, "I think you got a little too confident."

Steve looked down with a sheepish grin and they continued to skate around the rink.

"Now you're getting it," Natasha said a while later.

Steve laughed, "You're a pretty good teacher. I think I'd have given up already if you didn't help me."

"You mean like Tony?" Natasha asked with a laugh, looking to where Tony was now drinking a beer.

"Exactly," Steve said.

"Well, you're not a bad student yourself," Natasha said smiling slightly and trying to figure out why she felt the way she did for Steve.

Steve smiled but before he could say anything, Clint screamed and flew right in front of Steve and Natasha before crashing into the wall.

But the sudden obstacle had made Steve swerve and he and Natasha both lost their balance.

Steve fell backwards, landing on the ground with a loud groan as Natasha fell on top of him.

His arms wrapped around her instinctively and they both blushed slightly.

"Sorry," Natasha said quietly, noticing that they were so close, she could kiss him without even moving.

"Don't be, that was my fault."

Natasha sat up and pulled Steve to his skates.

"Clint do you have to be destructive everywhere we go?" Natasha asked.

Clint shrugged, "It's not even on purpose, it just happens."

Natasha rolled her eyes before turning to Steve, "I'll be right back."

She skated towards the exit and Steve watched her go with a small smile.

"You're crushing on Nat," Clint said, noticing Steve's longing gaze.

Steve snapped out of it quickly, "What? No I'm not. Natasha and I are teammates...friends."

Clint shook his head, "No way, I know what that look means. You totally like her. Why don't you just ask her out?"

Steve's eyes widened, "Are you crazy?"

"Probably, but not in this scenario. Natasha wouldn't have spent two hours skating with you if she didn't like you. Just ask her out."

Steve frowned, "What if she says no?"

Clint shrugged, "She won't. Trust me."

Steve nodded, considering the idea. He definitely did have a huge crush on Natasha, and spending all day with her certainly hadn't helped stifle his attraction to her.

She reminded him of Peggy. And in a world full of confusing and new things, it was nice to have someone who reminded him of home.

When Natasha got back into the ice, Steve was seriously consider what Clint had suggested.

If anyone knew Natasha well enough to give him reliable insight, it was Clint.

"Uh oh. You look like you're thinking...that's never good news," Natasha teased as she skated towards him.

Steve snapped back to attention and cleared his throat, "Sorry, I was just thinking about something Clint said."

Natasha nudged Steve with her shoulder, "What was that?"

"He um heard about this girl I like and encouraged me to ask her out."

Natasha raised an eyebrow, feeling slightly jealous, "A girl huh? Who is the lucky lady?"

Steve paused, unsure how to do this.

"C'mon Steve. You gotta give me something," Natasha encouraged.

Steve locked eyes with Natasha as they say at a small bench inside one of the rest areas on the rink.

"She's got green eyes, red hair, works for Shield, she's smarter the Tony Stark but doesn't get credit for it, and she's really good at teaching people how to ice skate," Steve said, watching her closely to see how she'd react.

Natasha's eyes widened slightly, "What?"

"Natasha I really really like you. And if you're free, I'd love to take you on a date one day."

Natasha smiled softly, "Alright."

Steve looked shocked, "Alright?"

Natasha nodded, "Yeah, as in 'alright', I'll go on a date with you."

Steve's eyes brightened, "You will???"

Natasha nodded and pulled Steve back onto the ice, "Don't act so surprised Rogers. I'm not as mean as people say."

"I know. You're meaner," Steve teased, earning a slap on his chest from Natasha that sent them both to the ground again.

She laughed and looked down at his lips, "How bout Friday?"

Steve nodded, "Friday's great."

Natasha smiled, "Good," she bent down and pecked Steve's lips lightly, "Just something to hold me over for the week."

Steve blushed and watched in awe as Natasha stood up and walked away, leaving him shocked, excited, and head over heels in the middle of an ice rink.

And maybe a little bit cold too, but he could get over that.
