I won't let you do this (part 2)

A continuation of the last chapter.

They had done what they had planned. Bruce had done the reverse snap and they had reason to believe that it worked.

And yet they didn't have time to find out for themselves because they now had a whole new issue on their hands.

Thanos, from the past, was on Earth. They weren't sure how, but he was.

The avengers facility had been the first thing he attacked.

Natasha had been in the training room by herself when the building had exploded.

Rocks around her began to fall and she focused all her energy on not getting crushed by one.

When she had finally managed to reach the outside of the rumble, she saw Tony and Thor and quickly joined them.

"What the hell is happening?" Tony asked.

Steve's voice rang in Natasha's ears, "Language."

Ignoring the thought, Natasha pulled out a gun and shrugged. "Seems like someone has a bone to pick with us."

Tony nodded. "Thanos, he must have discovered one of us when we went to retrieve the stones."

Natasha frowned. "Thanos?"

Both Thor and Tony nodded.

A scowl appeared on Natasha's face. "Great. In that case, I've got a bone to pick with him too."

Just as she had finished her sentence, they watched as Thanos departed his ship and put his large blade on the ground, before sitting beside it.

Natasha began walking towards him and Tony grabbed her arm. "Natasha, don't do anything stupid just so you can avenge Steve."

"Isn't that what we do? We're the avengers. Shouldn't we do whatever it takes to avenge our leader?" She asked, bitterness lacing her tone.

Tony frowned. "We will avenge him. The right way."

Natasha frowned but followed behind Tony as he led their team up to Thanos.

"Hey assface. Go back to the past. We don't want you here." Tony called out, readying his suit.

"Give me the stones and I'll be on my way."

Tony shook his head. "Sorry, but that's not how this works. You see, we already killed the present version of you, so we can easily kill you too."

Thanos chuckled. "You think I care about death? All I want, is for the world to be perfectly balanced-"

Natasha fired a shot towards Thanos, cutting him off. "We don't care. Either leave or we'll kill you. Your choice."

Thanos chuckled. "Foolish girl. Go ahead and try."

Natasha and the other avengers charged towards Thanos and his army.

Tony and Thor fought Thanos while Natasha and Clint stood side by side killing his alien army.

"Just like Budapest." Clint said to Natasha, making her grin for the first time since Steve's death.

They continued to fight but it did no good. Out of the corner of her eye, Natasha saw Thor on the ground and Thanos above him, pressing his axe into Thor's chest.

Natasha grabbed her gun and widow bites and ran to them as quickly as possible.

She jumped up and used her strength to pull Thanos back.

In frustration, he threw her off and Natasha landed gracefully a few meters away. Right next to Mjolnir.

Thanos focused his attention back on Thor and in a moment of desperation, Natasha threw the hammer at Thanos, not even thinking about being worthy.

Thor looked up at her in shock and laughed. "Oh, now you're in trouble." He muttered.

Natasha suddenly realized what had just happened and looked down in shock as the hammer returned to her hand.

A smirk overtook her face and she charged at Thanos, using the hammer and her combat skills to try to take him down.

Eventually, she lost the upper hand and was thrown across the battlefield.

Tony helped her up and motioned behind him. "Might wanna take look at this Romanoff."

Natasha turned around and saw an abundance of Dr. Strange's portals opening up around the battlefield.

Everyone who had died in the snap was now standing behind them, an army of very pissed off hero's.

Natasha couldn't help but grin. "Now you're really screwed." She said, facing Thanos.

As the entire army stood behind Natasha and Tony, she once again could almost hear Steve's voice echoing in her head.

"Avengers...assemble."

As if everyone else felt the same, a chorus of yells errupted from the army and they all charged towards Thanos.

Natasha fought off everyone and looked around for the gauntlet. She eventually found Peter Parker running through the crowd, followed by a large group of aliens.

"Anyone want help out a little bit here?" He yelled.

Natasha started towards him and aimed her widows bite at the aliens.

Peter tripped and Natasha shot each of them.

"Hey spider-boy. You look like you need some help." Natasha said, offering him her hand.

"Thanks."

Natasha helped him up and grabbed the gauntlet. Behind her, a large group of the other female avengers gathered behind her, readying their weapons to get through Thanos' army.

They all charged the enemies and ran towards Thanos.

The army shrunk little by little and eventually there were very few left.

Natasha was battling one of the aliens when all of the sudden, it turned to dust. Along with all the other enemies.

She turned around and saw Tony with the gauntlet on and his arm burnt.

She ran up to him and knelt down besides him.

Peter was having a moment with him so Natasha didn't speak. She just watched with teary eyes as Pepper assured him that they would be ok.

And then she watched as yet another one of her friends died. As his heartbeat faded into the air and he ceased to exist in anything but a memory.

Natasha put a hand on Peters back and he wrapped his arms around her.

They weren't close, but she knew the kid well enough to know that he needed someone to comfort him, and right now she needed to step up and do it.

She hugged Peter back and closed her eyes. Wishing to forget the last week of her life.

----------------

Weeks later, Natasha stood alone on front of Steve's grave.

Tony's funeral had been a few weeks ago and since then, she had been missing Steve so much she didn't even want to wake up in the morning.

Steve would have helped her through it.

He would have been there to help her move on from the loss of one of her oldest friends.

Not having him to lean on was like trying to swim without water.

She knelt down by his grave and wiped a tear from her cheek. "You know, sometimes I hate you for doing this to me. For leaving me all alone in this world. Especially when it should have been me all along."

She paused. "Everyone here misses you. I can't walk down the street without seeing a mural or billboard in honor of you and Tony. It's comforting in a way...knowing that other people saw you guys like I did. But it doesn't bring you back. Which is all I really want right now."

Natasha stood up and wiped the tears from her eyes. She placed a single rose on Steve's grave and walked away.

Tears built up in her eyes as she walked back to the facility and she hated herself for allowing herself to be so emotional. Steve had been gone for weeks now, so had Tony.

She kept telling herself to move on from him but she couldn't. Especially not with all the guilt she was carrying.

But despite the miserable feeling inside, Natasha knew that one day she would be alright. Either she would die and rejoin him in whatever beyond there was after death, or she would finally move on and find a way to be happy without Steve. She was guessing the first one.

That night, Natasha placed her hand delicately on a photo of the two of them. "I love you." She whispered before falling asleep with his pillow clutched to her chest.

Alright so this was a little difficult to write but I did my best. I hope you liked it, and if you did please leave a comment and vote behind.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for new one shots! I'll do just about anything.
