Gauging Your Reaction

Fluffy one shot. Please enjoy 😁

Steve was worried about Natasha. He heard from Clint that she had just returned from her solo mission and that it hadn't gone well.

All Steve had seen was how angry she was when she walked into the compound, slammed the door, and stormed up to her room.

After giving Natasha some space, Steve ordered her favorite pizza place and hoped that maybe he could help her feel better.

Once the pizza arrived, Steve walked up to her floor and knocked on the door lightly.

"Nat? It's me. I brought food." Steve said quietly.

A few seconds later Natasha opened the door, wearing shorts and an oversized t-shirt that he was pretty sure belonged to him at one point...Natasha was notorious for stealing laundry.

"Is that Leone's?" She asked, eyeing the pizza.

Steve nodded and Natasha opened the door further, inviting him inside.

Steve stepped in and set the pizza down on Natasha's kitchen counter. "Clint tell you what happened?" Natasha asked, taking a slice.

Steve shook his head. "All he told me was that the mission didn't go as well as you wanted it too. Even if he hadn't, it doesn't take a genius to see that you were upset. I figured pizza would help."

Natasha shrugged. "It doesn't hurt."

Steve sighed, "You wanna talk about what happened out there?"

"My target got away because I wasn't strong enough to do my job." Natasha said, her eyes avoiding his.

"I don't believe that."

"Maybe you should."

Steve stared at her and sighed. "Nat, what really happened?"

Natasha sighed and set down her pizza. "He found my weakness and used it against me. People almost died because of it. Fury is angry. Shield Intel is at risk. All because I let myself be fooled."

"I thought you didn't have a weakness." Steve teased, trying to lighten her mood.

Natasha gave him a sad smirk. "I only have the one."

Steve was curious now. "What is it?"

Natasha gave him a weak grin, "I can't tell you that, my cover will be blown." She joked.

Steve smiled. "All right. I won't ask again. Wanna watch a movie? Maybe it'll take your mind off the mission."

Natasha shrugged. "Only if I get to pick."

Steve grinned. "Deal."

The sat down on Natasha's couch, the pizza resting on the coffee table in front of them.

Natasha scrolled through Netflix quickly, her feet propped up on the couch arm and her head resting on Steve's chest.

"Have you ever seen this one?" She asked, stopping on one of the movies.

Steve shook his head no and Natasha clicked it before looking up at Steve.

"You don't seem to be very interested in the film." Steve said about thirty minutes later.

Natasha grinned. "I've seen it before. I'm gauging your reaction."

Steve smirked. "Is that just another word for staring?"

Natasha rolled her eyes. "No. Now watch the movie. You're missing important parts." She said, turning his chin to face the screen again.

Steve smiled and couldn't help but glance back down at her a few moments later.

This time her eyes were fixated on the movie, her vibrant green eyes reflecting the colors of the screen as she smiled slightly at the scene.

Sensing that she was being watched Natasha looked back up at Steve. "Now whose staring?" She teased.

Steve smiled. "I'm gauging your reaction to the movie." He said, mocking her previous words.

Natasha rolled her eyes, smirking. "For some reason I don't believe you."

"I thought we came to an understanding that I'm always honest." Steve teased, recalling the talk they had had at Sam's house many years ago.

Natasha shrugged. "We did. But there's a difference between being honest and telling the whole truth."

Steve smiled and looked back at the movie. "I was still honest though."

Natasha rolled her eyes and went back to watching the movie as well.

Once it was over, Natasha didn't want to move. Somehow, Steve's chest was more comfortable then any pillow she had slept on.

Sighing, she closed both her eyes for a moment, realizing just how tired she really was.

When she opened her eyes she couldn't help but smirk.

Steve was staring right at her once again, a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes she rarely got to see.

"Alright. Now there's no excuse. You were definitely staring." She teased, sitting up so that she was still sitting in Steve's lap but their faces were level.

Steve laughed. "Actually, I was trying to gauge what your reaction would be if I do something."

Natasha raised her eyebrow. "Yeah? What would that be?"

"Alright...what would you do if I kissed you right now?" Steve asked, his cheeks flushing red.

Natasha grinned. "I guess there's only one way for you to figure that out."

Gaining some confidence, Steve gently pulled Natasha towards him until their lips collided and he kissed her passionately.

Natasha tugged on Steve's hair lightly and kissed him harder, wrapping her legs around his waist.

Had they both not had a need for air they never would have stopped, but when Natasha's lungs nearly collapsed, she gently pushed him away, resting her forehead on Steve's.

They both were breathing heavily, neither one of them making the move to get up and go their separate ways.

"I don't know if you got accurate data that time...you may need to try again." Natasha said, smirking at Steve once she had recovered her breath.

Steve nodded. "I've heard that you can never do an experiment too many times."

Natasha nodded. "The more trials, the better."

Steve kissed her again, this time flipping them over so that he was laying over her on the couch.

Natasha pulled his neck towards him, wanting to be as close as possible to him.

Picking Natasha up, Steve began to walk towards her bedroom.

Natasha placed kisses up his jawline and sighed. "You're my weakness Steve. It's always been you." She told him before kissing him again.

Steve didn't need to tell her that he felt the way. She knew.

And that night, let's just say they both succemed to their weaknesses...
