Christmas Proposal

Requested by ScarlletGlitch The team has a bet on wether or not Steve will propose before Christmas or after.

"All who think that Steve pops the question before Christmas come on this side of the room," Clint yelled, standing on the couch.

About half of the avengers joined Clint on his side, including Sam, Wanda, all of the guardians except for Rocket, and Thor.

Tony rolled his eyes, "If you think that Steve will wait until after Christmas, join me on my side."

The other half, except for Dr. Strange, who they said had to stay neutral in fear of him seeing the future and cheating.

"And what if he proposes on Christmas?" Peter asks.

Tony shrugs, "Alright, does anyone think they'll get engaged on Christmas?"

Peter Parker is the only one to raise his hand. He makes his way to the middle of the room and looks around confused, "Really? Just me? Alright then. If I win it just means more money for me."

Everyone throws in their ten dollars towards the bet and then they all disperse, hoping that the couple won't catch wind of the bet before someone can win.

The last time that had happened, well, Natasha had not been pleased.

While the entirety of the avengers are making a bet on the future of Steve and Natasha, the couple are upstairs trying to wrap gifts and prepare for the holidays, which are only a few weeks away.

"You gonna give me a hand Rogers? Or are you just gonna stand there and stare at my ass all day?" Natasha asked, tossing Steve a playful glare as she struggled to hang something on the doorway.

Steve blushed and walked over to her laughing a bit, "Sorry, I got distracted."

Natasha laughed and rolled her eyes, handing him the mistletoe she had been trying to hang, "That much was obvious."

Steve hung it up where she had been reaching and turned back to her, his hands resting on her waist as she smirked at him, "You know the rules of mistletoe don't you Rogers?"

Steve grinned and looked up before leaning towards Natasha and capturing her lips, kissing her softly.

Natasha smiled as he pulled away and walked back towards their tree, "Come on, we gotta decorate."

Steve followed behind her and together they decorated their entire apartment until it was as Christmassy as it could be.

Afterwards they had sat down on their couch together and turned on Natasha's favorite Christmas movie that she insisted Steve would like because it was "old".

Steve didn't focus much on the movie though, he was more focused on Natasha and the way that her eyes would light up at certain parts in the movie.

"You know, I don't know why I even bother watching movies with you. I don't think you ever pay attention," Natasha teased, still not looking away from the screen.

Steve grinned, "Who needs movies when I have the most beautiful and amazing girlfriend sitting right besides me?"

Natasha rolled her eyes but couldn't help herself from smiling, "I hate you."

Steve laughed, "Yeah? Well I love you."

Natasha laid her head down on Steve's shoulder and sighed, "I guess you're alright."

Steve frowned at Natasha and she laughed, gently reaching up to cup his face as she kissed him.

"Alright, I love you too." Natasha finally said, resting her forehead on Steve's and completely forgetting about the movie.

Steve smiled and kissed her again.

Things escalated and eventually they ended up completely ditching the movie and moving into their bedroom with feverish need.

They did however, manage to stop at the mistletoe for a moment on the way there.

-----------------------

Three weeks later and it was Christmas day.

Clint and his group were all frustrated with Steve's lack of proposal before Christmas and Peter was beginning to get nervous.

They had already exchanged all of the gifts and dinner was halfway finished and Steve still hadn't proposed.

He had been sure that Steve was the type of guy to propose to his girlfriend on Christmas...it just seemed like him.

But as he night went by Peter was definitely losing hope.

"Wanda! Wanda, come here. I need you to do me a favor," Peter whispered.

Wanda walked over to him and raised an eyebrow, "Yes?"

"So listen, you've already lost the bet right, but I still have a chance at winning this thing. If you give me a tiny bit of help, I'll give you a quarter of my earnings."

Wanda frowned, "What kind of help?"

Peter shrugged, "I just need someone to read Caps mind and see if he's planning on doing it tonight."

Wanda shook her head, "No!"

Peter friended, "Come on, please. It's almost a hundred dollars!"

Wanda paused but shook her head again, "No. That's wrong. They'd kill us."

Peter frowned, "Fine."

After dinner finished everyone couldn't help but notice that Steve and Natasha had disappeared.

Steve had pulled her away to go up to the roof, where he had set up a surprise for her.

"I know that we already exchanged gifts, but I wanted to wait until after dinner to show you this," Steve said, walking hand in hand with her up the steps.

Natasha laughed, "Okay, what is it?"

"You'll see, close your eyes," He said, covering her eyes with his hands and leading her the rest of the way.

She held his arms to keep herself from tripping and couldn't help but laugh a little as he led her into the cold air.

"Ready?" He asked.

Natasha nodded and he removed his hands, revealing a small table set up with hot chocolate, a bundle of flowers, and a small present.

Steve smiled as he watched Natasha take it all in, "What do you think?"

Natasha smiled at Steve and kissed him briefly, "This is incredible."

Steve pulled her chair out for her and kissed her forehead as she sat down before taking his own seat.

"I just figured it would be nice to end the day with a minute to ourselves," Steve said, taking her hand as she sipped on the hot chocolate.

Natasha nodded, "It is. I feel like we haven't had a second to ourselves all day."

Steve laughed, "I guess that's what happens when you have a family of thirty superheros."

Natasha grinned at his use of 'family' and nodded, "Not to mention the children of those superheros running rampant in the building."

Steve laughed, "That too."

They were quiet for a moment before Steve motioned to the box on the table, "I do have one more gift for you if you wanna open it."

Natasha smiled, "Okay..."

She opened the box and pulled out a glass ornament, she gave Steve a slight smirk and looked at the ornament closer, nearly dropping it when she read what it said.

Natasha,
Will you marry me?
Yours always,
Steve

Natasha barely had a moment to process the message by the time Steve was kneeling on his knee and holding a ring box with a teary eyed smile.

Her heart swelled at the sight of him and she did her best not to just kiss the hell out of him.

"Natasha I know that this is terribly cheesy, and it's a little colder then I anticipated, but I've been waiting for this moment pretty much since the day we first kissed. You've always been the one for me Nat. I haven't ever met someone like you and I know for a fact that I never will. In the past, I've had a reputation for waiting too long. I don't want to do that with you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life, in sickness or in health. So, Natasha Romanoff, will you make me the happiest I've ever been and marry me?"

Natasha nodded, laughed and jumped into Steve's arms, nearly knocking him over.

"Yes. A thousand times yes." Natasha mumbled against his lips as she kissed him.

Steve laughed in relief and slid the ring onto her finger before kissing her again passionately.

They celebrated for a while more before walking downstairs to tell the team the good news.

"Hey! Widow and Cap are back! Where have you two been?" Tony asked.

Before they could answer, Clint jumped up from his seat, "Is that what I think it is?!"

He rushed over to Natasha and grabbed her hand, looking at the ring and then at Steve in shock, "You're engaged??!"

Natasha nodded with a small laugh, giving Steve's hand a small squeeze.

There was a collective groan from half the avengers, the other half congratulated the two and Peter jumped up with his hands raised, "I won!" He yelled.

Natasha frowned, "What?"

Everyone glared at Peter and his eyes widened, "I mean you two won, because this is amazing for you. And your joy brings me joy, so I'm also winning."

Natasha's eyes narrowed for a moment before she scowled and turned to Tony, "Did you bet on us again?!"

Tony's eyes widened and he jumped over the couch to get away from her.

"No!" He lied.

"We bet on the Captain." Peter Quill said from the corner of the room with a shrug.

Natasha narrowed her eyes at Tony again before sighing, "You know what, I don't even care right now. You can explain yourselves tomorrow, right now, we're gonna go celebrate," Natasha said with a smirk, pulling Steve away by his arm.

Steve blushed and followed behind her quickly, leaving the rest of the team to fork over the money to Peter.

Between the proposal and Natasha's mercy, it was definitely a Christmas to remember.
