Christmas Eve

Nat and Steve on Christmas Eve.

Steve stared at the wall in front of his silently. His brows were furrowed and honestly he couldn't remember the last time he was this confused.

"Can you tell me what that one is again?" Steve asked, weakly motioning to one of the items before him.

The saleswoman smiled politely and nodded, "Of course sir. This one is the Russian Pointe Encore style, which means that they are made more for a slender foot and are typically worn by someone a little more advanced."

Steve frowned, he assumed Natasha was an advanced dancer but he couldn't be sure. His gift idea was crumpling under his lack of knowledge of ballet, but unfortunately, he had waited until the Christmas Eve to go shopping and had no time to think of a new gift.

"Are you buying these as a gift for your girlfriend sir?" The woman asked.

Steve shook his head, "She's just my friend, but yes."

"Has she had pointe shoes before?"

Steve nodded, that much he did know, "Yes. She danced a lot when she was a teenager but stopped for a while. I want to give a pair to help her get back into it."

The saleswoman smiled and grabbed a box in the size Steve had given her earlier, "I think the Russian Pointe will be a great choice then. If they don't work she can always come back in and pick out a new pair."

Steve took the box in his hand and looked at the pale pink shoes, hoping that Natasha would like his gift, "Thank you."

He paid for the shoes and left the small dance store, holding the bag tightly as he walked around the mall to find other Christmas gifts.

He managed to find gifts for everyone else before he began walking towards the entrance of the mall.

Steve looked down at the bags in his hand, feeling a little bit proud of himself until he ran into someone and felt a hot burning sensation all over his arm and chest.

He dropped his shopping bags and looked up quickly, already letting apologies spill from his lips.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was-" Steve paused when he looked up, "Natasha?"

Natasha looked up from her now stained sweater, her eyes wide, "Steve?"

Steve blushed and stuttered for words now that he knew it was her, "I uh. I'm sorry I ran into you. I didn't see you."

Natasha shook her head, bending down to help Steve gather his bags, "That's okay, I wasn't looking where I was going either. What are you doing at the mall? I thought you had a mission."

Steve blushed again and bent down as well, quickly grabbing the bag that had her gift in it so that she wouldn't see it, "Christmas shopping, the mission was just a bad attempt at making sure no one would see their gifts. I guess that didn't work."

Natasha smirked and motioned to the bag that Steve was attempting to hide behind his back, "That what you're trying to hide from me?"

"What?" Steve asked, playing dumb.

Natasha rolled her eyes, "That bag you're hiding behind your back."

Steve cleared his throat, "Oh that? Yeah, that's your gift. But you can't see it yet so stop trying to look."

Natasha averted her eyes from the bag and shrugged, "Alright Rogers. I won't ruin your surprise. Are you heading back to the compound?"

Steve nodded, "Yeah."

"I'll see you tonight then? Tony's apparently making us all exchange gifts tonight, which is why I'm here."

Steve nodded and gave Natasha a small smile, "I'll see you then. Good luck finding gifts."

Natasha smiled at him again and walked away, leaving Steve to wonder what she would get him.

Later that night, all the avengers had been called into the living room by Tony.

"Tony! What's this bullshit about us giving out gifts tonight?" Clint asked, throwing a roll of bread at Tony from across the table they were all sitting at.

Tony swatted it away, causing it to hit Bruce instead, and rolled his eyes, "That was taken out of context! Half of us will draw names out of a hat and whoever you draw is who you exchange gifts with tonight. Then we can do everyone else tomorrow."

Steve frowned, he had never heard of this before.

"What's the point of this?" Natasha asked, taking a sip from her wine.

Tony shrugged, "Early presents."

Natasha rolled her eyes but didn't argue.

They finished eating dinner and Tony passed around the hat with everyone's names in it.

"Cap! Pick a name!" Tony yelled, already tipsy despite that it was only six.

Steve sighed and reached into the bag, pulling out one of the slips of paper.

He read it and instantly tried to fight back a blush, Natasha.

Of course he drew her name.

"Well?" Clint asked.

"Natasha," Steve said, holding up the paper with a shy smile.

Natasha smirked and stood up from her seat, "Looks like it's my lucky night."

Steve blushed again and stood up, following Natasha into the living room after everyone else had drawn names as well. He grabbed the gift box he wrapped earlier and went to sit on the couch but was stopped by Natasha.

She grabbed his arm and lightly pulled him towards the elevator.

"I'd rather do this in private if that's alright." She explained, pushing the button for her floor.

Steve nodded, holding the gift tightly.

They got to Natasha's room and he took a seat on her couch while she went into her room to get his gift.

Coming back into the room, Natasha sat down next to Steve and gave him a small smile as she offered him the gift.

Steve smiled back and handed her his as well, "Do you want to go first?"

Natasha shook her head, "No, you go ahead."

Steve nodded and began to tear off the wrapping paper.

Once the gift was unwrapped, Steve's mouth fell open and he examined the gift thoughtfully.

It was a small wooden drawing kit that had just about everything Steve could possibly need to sketch along with three new sketchbooks.

"I hope that one is alright...the guy at the store said it was the best one they sold." Natasha said quietly, biting her lip as she watched him.

Steve brought his eyes away from the kit and smiled at Natasha, "It's perfect. I love it. Thank you Nat."

Natasha smiled back at him, "Maybe one day you can draw me like one of your French girls."

Steve's eyes nearly popped out of his head and he just about choked on the air around him, "What?"

Natasha laughed, "Sorry, I forgot you're a hundred years old...It's from a movie."

"Oh," Steve said, blushing furiously.

Natasha smirked at him and he nodded to the gift in her hands, "Open yours."

"Okay." Natasha said, looking down at the box and unwrapping it.

She saw the shoe box and looked up at Steve in confusion, wondering why he would buy her shoes.

She opened the box and pulled out the shoes with an unreadable expression on her face, making Steve worry she didn't like the gift.

"I um, I left the receipt in the box if you want to return them." He said, turning red and hating himself for thinking she would want to pick up a hobby from decades ago.

Natasha finally looked up from the shoes, shaking her head, "No, no. I like them. I really do. Thank you Steve."

Steve looked up at Natasha doubtfully, "Are you sure? Because they had other styles, the saleswoman just said that these were good. It won't hurt my feelings if you exchange them."

Natasha huffed out a small laughed and reached over to grab Steve's hand, "Steve, I love them. I was just shocked. I haven't seen a pair of pointe shoes in ten years. And to be honest I didn't expect you to remember that I use to dance."

Steve offered Natasha a weak smile, "I remember everything you say."

Natasha stared at Steve for a moment, trying to tell if he was being serious.

"I'm starting to believe that," Natasha whispered, finding her breath to be shallow as the distance between them closed subconsciously.

Steve scanned Natasha's face, trying to read her. She looked just as unsure as he was, but there was still trust and love in her emerald eyes.

Natasha's eyes flickered from Steve's eyes to his lips and she found herself moving towards him without anymore thought.

She wrapped her hands around him and gently pulled his head closer to hers until their lips touched, making Steve's heart swell and causing hers to skip a beat.

Steve reciprocated the kiss by running his hands through her hair and biting on her lower lip lightly.

Natasha moaned in response and climbed into Steve's lap, straddling him as she deepened the kiss and ran her hand up and down his chest while the other held his jaw delicately.

Steve felt like his entire world was spinning and the only thing he could focus on was her lips on his.

He would have kissed her until he suffocated but after a few minutes Natasha pulled back, breathless and with swollen lips.

She stared at Steve while she tried to recover her breath and rested her head on his shoulder, "Damn..." She mumbled.

Steve laughed a little, "Good damn or bad damn?"

"Good. Definitely good."

Steve grinned, feeling a little proud of himself seeing as how Natasha was never this flustered.

"In that case, what would you say if I asked you to go out with me? Like on a date." Steve said, feeling slightly confident.

Natasha smiled and intertwined her hands with his, "I would say yes."

Steve's eyes lit up as he gave her hands a light squeeze.

Natasha smiled back and kissed Steve lightly again, "Merry Christmas Eve Steve."

Steve smiled against her lips and sighed, "Merry Christmas Eve Nat."
