Steve's POV

Weird wasn't the word I'd particularly use to describe our current predicament. Watching the world rewind before you was not something pleasant, it was terrifying, and I'd seen a lot of things.

The man before us was approximately Tony's height. He had dark neatly groomed hair and piercing eyes. With a roll of the neck and crack of the fingers he paced back and forth.

"Okay this is creepy." Scarlet said.

"He hasn't even done anything spooky." Tony said but I could see he was just as weirded out.

The man paused and sat down in the middle of the floor closing his eyes. He crossed his legs and sat and sat and sat.

"This appears to be a waste of time is there a reverse spell?" Vision asked.

The light overhead flickered and the shadows on the walls bent and twisted until a figure emerged. The darkness pooled around them like a smoky ink. All that could be seen were glowing eyes.

"Rise." The voice belonging to the shadowy figure was harsh and raspy hardly discernible. The man opened his eyes and gazed up unafraid of the being before him.

"A servant." The man smiled kneeling before the swirling figure and bowing so his forehead touched the floor. "I'm honored."

"Do not be flattered." The person responded. "You are but a vessel for what is to come."

"I know. A vessel I will be." The man nodded smiling widely. "I promise. Your will is my will."

"Good." The voice laughed a deep unnerving laugh. "Our master has ordered you to leave these."

The dark figure produced a sheet of dark paper symbols on it in white.

"Yes of course." The man nodded vigorously. He took it and examined it with wild eyes.

"It will come in handy in the future; he's foreseen it. Do not fail." The dark figure demanded a rise in pitch as if this were a crucial matter. "A select group of people will remedy the tear that has occurred in our two worlds."

"And then will I be able to join you? To meet my ancestors?" The man asked tucking the paper away. The figure nodded.

"If you continue as you are, you will be one of the best of us, but only then." The figure said. "For now we join closer to the union of the earth and our people."

With that the shadowy figure dislocated into nothing. The man scrambled to his feet and grabbing the paper in hand drug it across his skin until a deep paper cut appeared. Wiping at the blood on his arm he began to write on the wall with it as if he were merely using paint. Whenever the cut ran dry he'd make another one above it.

"That has to be horribly painful." Peter said rubbing his arm. The image swirled and the room began to revert back to its original state causing my head to spin. Soon we were back as we were.

"I have a theory." Vision said blinking his dizziness away. "What if this man is the Uniter?"

"Makes sense and it could be plausible." Nat nodded. The others mumbled in agreement and it was clear they were simply eager to leave. It was a little creepy now.

"But how is that a clue?" Thor asked.

"It's not so much a clue as an answer." Scarlet explained. "We know who he is if we can research him we can probably connect him back to the catacombs and then to the next clue."

"Agreed." Tony said. "And now we can leave. Grab the file and let's go."

"Small problem Tony how are we getting back?" I asked.

"I got a contact." Nat smiled.

"Who?" Vision inquired.

"Just a little bird." She said.

Moments later we were standing awkwardly at a pay phone which according to Tony he was surprised still existed. Somehow we managed to acquire enough change which required a few minor street performances of Scarlet doing 'magic' and people paying to try and pick Thor up.

"Hey." Nat said holding the phone to her ear. "Oh hush. Look we need a ride. Yes. No. Okay fine I will but only because- I'll hang up on you."

Tony was complaining about how he couldn't believe no one around here recognized him to which Peter said, "You're ego is big but not that big."

"Good news we have a ride." Nat smiled resting her hands on her hips.

"How long until they get here?" Thor asked crossing his legs.

"You good?" Peter asked patting his shoulder.

"I think he has to use the little gods restroom." Scarlet said to which Thor nodded. Laughing Thor set off to find a restroom. Everyone else waited patiently for him to return and when he did we decided to casually explore the area not exactly knowing where we were.

Peter and Scarlet held a contest to see who could jump the farthest as we walked. Vision shook his head in amusement. Tony was trying to convince Thor to give him a piggy back ride because his legs were tired.

"They act more like a married couple than we do." Nat said rolling her eyes at Tony who had dramatically crossed his arms.

"More like dorm roommates or brothers." I said watching them as well. Nat held my hand as we walked swinging our arms back and forth a habit of hers.

"That reminds me of something." Nat said slowing our pace down a bit so we lagged farther behind the others.

"What? That they're immature?" I laughed thinking she was going to insult them without wanting to effectively piss anyone off.

"Okay that is one hundred percent true." She said just as Thor shoved Tony and Tony attempted to tackle him but bounced off his rock hard body. "But it doesn't have to do with them. See I've recently had a conversation with someone, well it was actually Scarlet. Scarlet and I talked and-"

"You're rambling." I pointed out. "Just spill the beans."

"Okay fine." She sighed mumbling something under her breath before stopping to look at me. There was a strangely nervous air about her I couldn't quiet understand. She opened her mouth to speak when she was cut off by a loud voice.

"Y'ALL NEED A RIDE?!" I glanced up to see Clint standing on the platform of a jet.

"Clint!" Scarlet smiled running over to just beneath the jet before flying up and tackling him in a hug.

"Arrow guy." Peter smiled and waved.

"Hop on losers I'm taking you back to HQ!" Clint said heading back to the cockpit and carefully lowering the plane so it hovered above the ground. Thor jumped up easily as did Peter. With ease I hoisted Tony up who managed to wiggle up over the edge. I lifted Nat next before jumping up myself.

Clint gave everyone a hug smiling like a kid. Scarlet was practically bouncing in excitement. Peter seemed intrigued having not necessarily been properly acquainted with the guy.

"If it isn't my favorite little red head." Clint said walking over and picking Nat up.

"Clint put me down I'm not your kid!" She groaned. He laughed and rolled his eyes setting her down. She smiled despite her irritated tone and brushed her hair out of her face.

"How are you big guy?" He asked patting my back.

"I'm good how are the kids?" I smiled.

"Very well a lot taller growing up too fast you know." Clint said a bit of sadness to his eyes. "Feels weird being retired."

"Yeah well thanks for the ride." Clint nodded.

"Sit tight folks you'll be back in no time." Clint said heading to the cockpit as we all took our seats eager to not fall over. I recollected the time we'd all gone to Clint's and had fallen over in the jet. I smiled to myself at the memory.

Scarlet sat next to Vision playing Rock Paper Scissors with him. She was winning because for some reason he liked to pick rock a lot. Peter was braiding Thor's hair while Tony snickered to himself. Nat sat next to me before very much like a cat crawling into my lap. She leaned back against my chest.

"Am I a comfy seat?" I joked.

"Yes very much." She nodded laughing lightly.

"So what did you want to tell me before Clint interrupted?" I asked resting my chin on her head.

"Oh it's nothing it's fine." Nat said playing with my hands and looking down.

"Okay." I smiled kissing the top of her head.

"Ew! Gross!" Peter joked covering his eyes.

"Whatever." Nat said looking for something to throw at him before deciding it was best to throw an insult. "Not like you'd know mister I don't have a girlfriend."

Scarlet laughed at that as did Vision. Peter blushed furiously and Tony wrapped his arms around him.

"Don't talk to my son like that." Tony glared half heartedly. This caused everyone to laugh hysterically. The flight wasn't too long before we arrived back at the tower. A meeting was immediately called and a long hour explanation finally filled in Fury on what had happened. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I'm sorry if I'd known I wouldn't have sent you." Lately he'd been taking things a lot more personally. The best I could figure was he still felt guilty over what had happened the last time an unknown threat targeted us.

"Don't worry about it point is we got the file to look up the guy and we can move on from there." Peter smiled clueless to the real reason Fury was a bit tense.

"Alright it's been a long day all of you get some rest you're going to need it I assume." Fury said taking the file with careful hands as if it would blow up.

"I won't argue with that." Tony said stretching.

"That reminds me Stark Pepper is back from her business meeting." Fury said smiling lightly.

Tony got to his feet and ran off yelling the whole way until he dissapeared down the hall and all that could be heard was, "PEEEEEPPPPPEEERRR!"

Peter laughed and got up. "Well night folks."

"Night." Scarlett smiled. Vision waved as he left. Thor was the next to go then Scarlet and Vision.

"Come on." I tugged Nat to her feet. She waved at Fury who nodded back before opening the file and with a sigh began to read it. She jumped onto my back laughing lightly. "Sure make the tired guy carry you."

"Oh please I'm light." She said indignantly.

"I'm only teasing butt head." I laughed. She tightened her hold on my neck in a play choke. "Oh no send help I can't breath."

"Tap out Rogers." She demanded.

"Make me criminal." I laughed. "We're so dumb."

"Correction their is no we." Nat said hopping off my back.

"Ouch that hurts my feelings." I feigned hurt and flopped onto our bed.

"Yeah yeah whine all you want." She punched me in the stomach playfully. Rolling my eyes I slipped out of my clothes not bothering to put them away being to tired and lazy. Nat undressed and pulled on one of my shirts which was way to big for her but it was cute.

"Scoot over Captain I Take Up The Whole Bed." Laughing I moved over and she snuggled down next to me. Like every night she rested her head on my chest listening to my heart beat.

"Hey! No. Bad." I said.

"What?" She asked innocently.

"Don't put your cold feet on me." I said.

"But you're warm." She whined very much like a kid.

"Fine." I sighed and she smiled happily. "Now go to sleep little lady."

"Sure thing mister." She smiled closing her eyes. She slung an arm across my torso and I laced our fingers together. Hopefully tomorrow would be more simple a nice calm quest for the second clue no fighting. Sighing I closed my eyes and attempted to fall asleep. I must have dozed off because I woke up to the sound of our door creaking open a bit.

Squinting I tried to make out who it was. Nat rubbed her eyes being a light sleeper as well and sat up.

"Sorry didn't mean to wake you." It was Peter.

"Peter what the hell?" Nat asked groggily.

"I couldn't sleep." He said shuffling nervously. "I'm kinda scared."

"About what?" Nat asked.

"The creepy place kind of freaked me out." Peter said. He held a pillow in one hand and a blanket in the other. For some reason I could picture him hardly a foot tall with chubby cheeks trying to crawl into his parents bed from a nightmare.

"Fine you can sleep on the floor." Nat said. Peter smiled in the dark and picked a spot.

"Thanks oh and don't tell anyone please?" He asked.

"Sure." Nat said tossing him another blanket. "Now shut up and let me sleep."

With that she curled up next to me and yawned before falling back asleep. Fighting the urge to chuckle I closed my eyes again and fell back to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a good day.
