Chapter Seventeen
Peter's POV
"Okay so the file said that we should look for the Kryptos monument around here." I said as Vision carried me safely to the ground. "That could be the second clue. Four are there but three are known."
"Indeed." Vision agreed setting me down on my own two feet. "I took the liberties of some research. Apparently a man made four coded sections which only have been decrypted through an intense process. A majority is unknown."
"Right." I nodded trying to recall the folder. "Apparently one section said something about nuances and illusion."
"Indeed young Parker." Vision smiled. "Perhaps the other translations will give us clues."
"Good idea. Think we ask the CIA guys?" I questioned looking at the CIA Virginia head quarters. Vision nodded in agreement and the two of us headed inside. The place was rather intimidating but with Vision's help we managed to come across a copy of the translations.
"Thank you this is much appreciated." Vision smiled charmingly and shook the gentleman's hand who'd helped us. He turned the papers over in his hands and nodded in approval. Following Vision outside I sat next to him on the bench swinging my legs as he read and scribbled with a pen.
"So...." I wasn't sure what to do. Vision paid little attention to me. "Think the others are okay? Like Cap and Tony? Or that maybe Nat and Bucky and Thor got some help from Maria and Sharon?"
"Mhm." Vision nodded eyes flicking across the papers.
"You're not even listening to me are you?" I frowned.
"No no go on." He said absent mindedly scribbling a note.
"Whatever. I'm going to look around." Grumbling I clambered to my feet and pulled on my mask, running off to find something to do, at least while he deciphered the last code.
There wasn't much to see around the place. The whole area was uniform and structured like a bunch of lame robots had built the place. What was worse we didn't even have our jet, so I couldn't even fool around in there.
Sighing I perched on the edge of the roof belonging to the smile room. At least the weather was nice and there were a few dark people out and about. Bet they were enjoying a nice wa-
Wait. Dark people? My gaze settled on the smoky people milling about beneath the kryptos monument itself. Frowning I pressed the spider on my chest, a new gadget Tony had made, allowed my suit to have a stealth mode.
Cloaking technology. It was a wonderful birthday present. Now invisible to the naked eye I slunk slowly along the rooftop before dropping softly onto the ground.
Very carefully I approached the wispy people until o could make out their garbled voices.
"The others succeeded in protecting the Middle East beacon. It has yet to be destroyed."
Damn it. So things must have been pretty bad if Nat and the others could finish off the plan.
"Sadly the Italian sector was rather unprotected. Feline was supposed to hold her post."
"Well no one accounted for the green beast. It appears our players have called in reinforcements." Mused another.
So Steve, Tony, and Bruce had succeeded. They had the beacon secured which put a link in whatever signal these guys were trying to send. Good. Now for Vision and I to accomplish our task.
"The Wakandan king is unsuspecting of what is to come." Came a raspy chuckle.
T'Chala, he needed to know there was some sort of trap coming his way. Scar was with him and I couldn't imagine something happening to her. She was practically my best friend.
"We have company." The words hardly registered in my brain before a dark hand grasped me by the front of the suit my cloaking technology shutting down. "Hm, spiders."
"Uh hi?" Smiling I gave a tiny wave. The hooded figure had no face but it tilted its head as if it studying me.
"The Master doesn't like intruders." The next thing I knew my body was thrown backwards crashing into the nearest building and falling through the bricks.
"Woah." Shaking my head I glanced about surprised to see a woman looking at me wide eyed and my body sprawled out over a broken cubicle and desk. "Hey, nice work, keep it up!"
Scrambling to my feet I ran back outside to see a total of six misty individuals standing in a line arms tucked behind their backs.
"You know that's not very nice." I called rolling my shoulders and checking my webs. The sneer that came from the group leader sounded like a thoroughly pissed off snake.
I barely had time to react and if it weren't for my spider senses I'm sure I'd be dead. One moment everything was fine, the next the shadows cast by the building seemingly came alive.
Dark spikes jutted from the inky black by the wave of the hand from the Uniter's lackies. Diving to the side I sprang to my feet and leapt perching atop the monument.
"Let's play a game shall we? You guys like those right?" Yelping I was forced to jump aside as black inky hands reached for me.
"How about tag? You like tag?" Breathing I stood assessing the situation. It would be hard to get close to them. I needed to distract them until I could get Vision's attention. They had yet to realize he was here.
"We aren't playing games." Screeched one and it disappeared before re appearing behind me. Ducking the attack I smiled to myself and poked it in the stomach.
"You're it." Without waiting around to see what horrible thing happened I took off. All around me the shadows sparked to life like they were hungry for flesh. Specifically my flesh.
Panting I leapt shooting a web from my hand and swinging across the campus. By now agents inside had seen what was going on and had flooded outside hand guns drawn.
"No need to panic folks I have this under contr-oof!" Something hard slammed into my chest breaking my focus and sending me back to the ground. Gunshots sounded but the bullets were simply absorbed by the dark figures.
How in the hell has Vision not noticed what's going on?! Grunting I intercepted one of the dark figures and with a violent jerk of my webs slung them into a nearby wall. Well that's progress.
A rush of air caused the hairs on my arms to stand on end. Turning I bent nearly in half as a sharp shadowy projectile raced over head. A centimeter closer and I'd have a giant spike up my nose. Talk about painful.
Shooting a web I jerked it backwards re routing its path so that the group of shadowy beings was forced to scatter. Heart hammering in my chest I back flipped away from another projectile and picking up a hand gun fired shots to scatter them more.
I had the feeling they were less effective when apart. Almost like they functioned on the same wave length and that confusing one confused the other.
Maybe it's a pack mentality. Find the Alpha confuse him and everything goes to chaos. Studying the group it was hard to notice any differences between them, they all appeared to be the same. It would have to be a wild guessing game.
If I was going to play with the unpredictable I was going to have to be unpredictable myself. Shooting at random I knew it was a risk in concern to how much ammunition I truly had, after tossing the gun aside and resorting to webs, I began to feel like my plan was failing.
Until I caught one particular figure off guard. The coordinated movements faltered. Gotcha. Smiling to myself I focused my attentions on disorienting the alpha so to speak. It worked for some time until they began to understand my tactics.
Having reinforcements would be absolutely wonderful at this point. Where the hell was Vision? When I met up with Scar I was seriously gonna have to tattle on this guy!
In my distraction one of the figures rushed forward at an uncanny speed and caught me by the throat. Their skin was impossibly cool and it was nearly cold enough to burn. My eyes widened as I watched their fist grow a long black steel blade from their gauntlet. I was about to be gutted like a fish.
"VISION!" Scrunching up my eyes I tried to squirm free but the sound of a familiar noise cause relief to flood through me.
"Excuse you but who said you could touch him?" Glancing upwards I saw the glorious red and gold armor of my beloved Tony Stark floating in the air. "That's what I thought."
He raised his hand and a jet of blue energy blasted back my attacker. Overhead I saw Vision flying about entwined in battle with one of the others. Somehow Cap was here too charging in on his bike with...Bruce in the side car?
"I love you! I love you so much!" Tony glanced down at me and snorted in laughter.
"Doesn't everyone?" Smiling I watched as the group of smoky shadows seemed to be afraid for once. Following in behind the others, things turned into chaos.
I hardly knew what was happening but soon I was cheering excitedly as they retreated dissolving into the very substances they were made of.
The high of the fight wore off and those belonging to the CIA agency returned to work and began making plans for repairs. Jogging over I grouped up with the others.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked.
"Bruce figured out a way to not only turn off, but contain, the beacon." Steve explained looking proudly at the scientist. "I sweet talked Fury into coming here. We're going to retrieve the others soon. Only we have to top off fuel back at base. These jets fly insanely fast but that just means we burn through fuel."
"We should hurry." I breathed. "I heard those guys talking. They've got something planned for Scar's group."
"We can't leave until we complete the recovery process here." Tony sighed. "Since there's more of us maybe it'll go by faster."
"But-" Even Vision seemed to be on there side. "She could be in trouble!"
"I am as worried as you are Peter but Mr. Stark is right." Vision nodded to Tony.
"How can you say that? Besides where were you? I was in trouble and you didn't even bother to show up!" Cap shot Bruce a weary look.
"I was contacting Captain Rogers, I gave him our location." Vision explained calmly. It was this calm of his that always made me angry.
"Yeah but I could have died! I'm sure they'd have found us considering all of the damage." Gesturing angrily at the damaged buildings I looked pointedly and angrily at Vision.
"Relax kid you're getting worked up." Tony rested a hand on my shoulder but I smacked it away and jerked off my mask.
"Relax? I am worried out of my mind for everyone! Now you're telling me we have to prioritize some dumb ass rock over my friends' lives?! Like hell I'm gonna do that!" They all looked at me with varying expressions.
"Calm down it'll be quick." Bruce promised with a timid shrug.
"No. You know what? You guys stay here. Figure this shit out I'm taking the plane and I'm finding the others. If Scar's in trouble I'm going to help. You can finish the mission here and when I'm done I'll come back and get you." Tugging my mask back on over my head I turned and began running to the jet which was easy to find considering it's hulking frame.
"Parker get your scrawny ass back here now!" Tony yelled. Setting my jaw I ignored him and kept running. The sound of an engine rumbling next to me only caused me to pick up the pace.
"You can try and outrun me Pete but I'm the one on a motorcycle." Steve said skidded to a halt in front of me.
"Get out of my way." I didn't want to argue with him.
"Oh I'm not gonna stop." This surprised me.
"What?"
"Are you sure you wanna do this by yourself?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"Not like any one is volunteering to come with." I scoffed.
"Did you ask? Hop on little boy. Your big bro is going with you." Steve smiled and tossed me a helmet. Surprise was a light way of describing my emotions.
"You're addicted to breaking rules aren't you?" I asked climbing on behind him.
"Hey I broke rules when it came to marrying a spy. I'm used to it. Now let's go save our baby sister yeah?" Smiling I nodded in agreement. Cap took off racing back to the jet and to our new mission.
"Okay so like...if you're the big bro and I'm your baby bro does that mean Scar is like our baby sister but Nat's my big sister and Bucky is the cool cousin?" Steve shook his head and laughed.
"Peter Parker you are one special kid."
A/N I managed to do it guys. I managed to put something together. I hope you like it. Note it's not proofread so I apologize for spelling mistakes. Hell maybe you'll get a good laugh out of them.
