Chapter 4: Night Walk
As Rebecca was going home late that night, she saw her parents spot her as she walked through the front door. Her parents smiled, walking over to her, asking how her day was at school. "My day at school was boring, as usual, my English teacher said I had to have a tutor so I am now being tutored," she exclaims which made her parent's eyes light up.
"Is it a boy?" They both ask, getting into Rebecca's face. She blushes slightly, embarrassed. "Yeah, but I was just assigned him, okay?" She blurts out. Her mom smirked slyly, trying not to laugh. Her dad, on the other hand, was not amused as usual. He simply waved both of us off, walking back to his studies.
Rebecca sighed, walking past her devilish mother and went into her room, locking the door behind her. She turned on her desk lamp, flopping her back onto the bed. She stares at the ceiling, blankly, thinking about what she had done today. She then thought about Edward, blushing bright red, squirming slightly in her bed.
Rebecca then remembered that Edward had given her his phone number on a small piece of paper. She reached inside of her front pocket, pulling it out. She put his number into her contacts, putting Edward Locke as the name of the contact. She breathed heavily, taking deep breaths. This was the moment, the time for her to talk to him finally, in a normal sense.
'Hey, this is Rebecca, your tutoring partner. Is this Edward?'
'Yeah, this is Edward, nice to hear from you again, Rebecca.'
'Perfect! How are you doing, Edward?'
'I am doing fine, just drinking a nice cold glass of chocolate milk while reading a book about supernatural creatures.'
'Woah! Supernatural stuff? I am more of a Mystery/Horror type of girl.'
'Very interesting, I hope we can hang out and converse about our love for books.'
'I hope we talk about romance stories, you know? ;)'
'Haha, quite flirtatious, aren't you? ;)'
'Hey! Why don't we just hang out now? I mean, it's 11 PM right now, so we could hang out at night?'
'You know, that is a splendid idea! Where would you wanna meet?'
'How about the park? You know the one by the school?'
'Don't you mean Brickstone park?'
'Yup! See you there in about 15 minutes since I am assuming that we both live near the school but take the bus since we are too lazy?'
'You read my mind, I can be lazy sometimes when it comes to walking but this will definitely be a work out for a walk so that's good, see you soon!'
Rebecca turned off her phone, sliding it into her right front pocket. She squealed silently, excited that she got to have one on one time with Mr. Locke. She got up off her bed, grabbed her hoodie, and opened her window. She crawled through the window, shutting it, then landed into some soft bushes.
As Rebecca was walking towards the park, getting very close, her heart skipped a beat as she saw Edward sitting on a bench in front of the park entrance, waiting for her. He was dressed in a thin jacket with dark jeans and converse shoes. He also seemed to be wearing a white t-shirt with a funny gag on it with a taco cat joke.
As Edward saw Rebecca approaching, he stood up and waved to her. Rebecca was relieved by this, walking over to him and smiling genuinely. "H-Hey Edward, ready for our walk?" She chirped, standing next to him on his left. He nodded and started walking into the park with her.
This public park had street lights in it so if people were to walk in it, they would be able to see where they are going. Some parts of the sidewalk, however, have some dark areas because of the lack of lighting.
As Edward and Rebecca were walking, they started having conversations regarding their interest in books, their tutoring time at school, and society as a whole. They seemed to relate in a lot of ways, surprisingly. It was like if they were destined to meet because of their similarities.
As they were walking down the sidewalk where there were lights, Edward had slowly reached over and held Rebecca's slender hand. She was surprised by this as she felt her smooth hand being held by his long and surprisingly smooth hands. Her cheeks burned red and she couldn't hide them. He didn't seem to notice because of the nighttime making the shadows darker than usual on their faces, even in the lights they were still dark.
They continued walking down the sidewalk, quietly strolling and sometimes making a conversation about something about themselves. Rebecca surely fell in love with Edward that night, Edward did too, with Rebecca. This was a start of a blossoming crush that will someday become a relationship of love and lust.
