Who needs men, anyway?
Certainly not Joanna Lozano. The youngest of five and the only girl, she has learned at a young age the importance of survival in a man's world. It's what drives her to be a successful accountant in the corporate world of Chicago.
When her boyfriend of six years unceremoniously dumps her--though her pride is wounded--she accepts the rejection as an opportunity to rediscover herself, starting with a reluctant agreement to join an eight-week fitness boot camp.
Sage Kingston is a straightforward gym owner who appreciates and lives by the monotony of his life. His only goals are to provide and care for his young son after his divorce left him jaded. He doesn't have the time or patience to play games that come with dating or relationships. Who needs that headache, anyway?
Yet, with a new season of boot camp at his gym underway, he's instantly attracted to the curvy and feisty participant, Joanna. However, his work is cut out for him since she's not easily charmed or swayed by his bulging biceps or six-pack abs.
But even Joanna can't deny the mounting tension after each draining and sweaty training session. As they grow to know each other, so does their affection and both must deal with overcoming their hurt pasts and decide if unexpected love is worth the risk.
Review:
To say that I enjoyed this story is a huge understatement. In fact, this was my second time reading this story, and I loved it just as much the second time around.
Talk about body positivity, the strong, it is what it is, hysterically funny, and smart Joanna is a protagonist worth routing for. Although at times, I wanted to scream at her. While it is understanding that the break up with her one and only boyfriend since her school days was a blow to her self esteem, it made me want to cry every time she doubted herself or put herself down.
Her family and friends drag her to a gym for a fitness boot camp which she promised to go to after a night of drinking. It doesn't begin well for her as one of her friends challenges her to run on the treadmill. I was belly laughing imagining the chaos that occurred when he sped up the treadmill cause her to fall. This debacle gets the attention of the grumpy gym owner, Sage.
Sage is a no-nonsense, serious, single father. His main priority is his son, as well it should be. However, after being burnt by previous relationships, his love life was put on the backburner. That is until Joanna's beauty and quirkiness gets his attention. She's not as taken with him as he is with her which adds to her allure. He's a man who has women wanting him, but he just sees them as clients.
This is a beautiful story of self discover for both characters but in different ways. The chemistry between them is a charming and no matter how much they fight it, it's not to be denied. There are bumps and obstacles that they have to overcome in order to find their happily-ever-after, but the universe continues to draw them together.
If you want a humorous story full of emotional highs and lows that most of us can relate to in more ways than one, Imperfect Fit is the story for you. I appreciate the realistic take on these characters and find them so captivating; I could read it right now for a third time.
To the Author:
I'm sure you get this a lot, but I would love a spin off story to see these two years down the road as parents of a teenage Obie. I did not want their story to end, which is due to your writing believable characters that could be your friends and family. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
