Ash and Summer Short
(Ash's POV)
It was actually happening. I'd heard of it before, watched shows about it, but I never expected it to be this genuinely bad. Some movies make it out to be a whole "Badass time where zombies is the literal only thing to worry about."
It's not.
It's absolutely not.
The apocalypse had started a few years ago, and both Summer and I were hungry. We'd almost run out of food, so our rations were small.
Worse than that, all of our friends were dead. Deceased. Gone.
They'd never rise again. Never live to take another breath. Remain forever unable to feel anything.
There a kind of a terrible feeling when this kind of thing happens, knowing that it's not just your friends. The fact that everyone is either dead like that or a cannibal isn't even the worst part. It's the fact that anyone you care about can die any moment just as easily as you can.
Then there's the pricks that actually survived. The ones who care about nothing more than survival and are willing to slaughter another human being to live. They're no better than the zombies. Summer and I knew this from experience.
They'd raided our camps before.
They were going to one last time.
Summer and I knew it.
We were trying to spend as much time as possible together. Not like we'd be able to spend much more time than we usually do together. I was always with her anyways.
But this felt different.. Knowing that we're both about to die. That they're going to show up and beat us senseless and there's just nothing either one of us can do about it.
It's a terrifying thought.
Just, suddenly she'd woken me up and whispered a short, "They're coming.."
We got up, and we did something we'd both wanted to do for a while.
Despite the situation, we slow danced, and I sang softly to her. We were going to make our last moments worth it.
We were going to make these last moments mean everything.
Slowly, I leaned towards her ear and sang softly, "You are my sunshine.. My only sunshine.."
She quietly sang along with me.
"You make me happy... When skies are gray.."
Tears formed in my eyes and rolled down my face, and my voice cracked as I kept singing.
"You never know dear.."
Dozens of men were suddenly around us.
We were ripped apart, torn from each other's arms.
"How much I love you.."
Then, I heard her scream. It was cut off by a gunshot.
"Please don't take..."
My tears dropped to the ground, making small splotches in the dirt below my face as they put a gun to my head.
"My sunshine.."
The shot fired, and my vision was black.
Away...
A/n: oh yeah I forgot to add that Summer is TheDerpQueen 's OC not mine
