Rating Faceclaim Types
(1-10 Best to Worst)
1. Magazine/Insta Models- Looks professional and typically taken more seriously. It feels more anonymous, using lesser or unknown people; it's easier to see those that person in the role they're supposed to feel. I look at the faceclaim and say, "okay, this is what their character is supposed to look like," and not, "Omg! It's [insert person/character]."
2. Actors- Also looks professional and taken more seriously. However, when you choose popular, well-known actors, I think people already have an idea of what that person is like based on their character roles. It would be weird seeing Tom Holland put into a villainous in someone's applyfic.
(Personally, I think it's weird using someone else's face as my oc but that's what gets people's attention.)
3. Artwork from other creators- Doesn't look as professional, but you're still taken seriously. I think anonymity allows people to view your character without interference. Like, without any prior knowledge, people just see the drawing and go, "ah okay, that's what the character looks like." If you're gonna do this though, it's nice to give the original artist credit.
(^^this is usually my go-to
4. Anime/Cartoon/Game etc. characters- I don't even know what to say about this. There's just something hilarious about seeing the image of well-known anime or game characters completely changed into another person.
5. Self-drawn faceclaims- Allows you to make your oc exactly as you picture them; however, unless you're a really, really good artist or just super confident, I wouldn't recommend this.
6. Gacha/Picrew/ Other character creator games- While there's nothing inherently wrong with using Gacha or Picrew, there is unfortunate hate and "cringe" surrounding the communities. These character creators are often limited in diversity, and personally, I don't think Gacha has the best art style.
