News of the Century
I yawn as I walk through the halls dressed in my maid attire. My arms reach high above my head as I stretch my body. Once my hands fall back to my side, I groan in slight pain due to my spinning head. My stomach feels dense and heavy. My throat tight and queasy. The pain last night has made me feel weird, more weird than normal. I even had to skip breakfast, I felt so sick. I hold my hand up to my forehead and sigh. It's a tad hotter than normal and it's throbbing.
Is this what Greyson meant when he said my wolf was going to start being affected? Is she finally starting to break down?
I make it to the hall where Marissa and I agreed to meet yesterday after I left from training. We're very close to the Alpha's and Beta's corridor. We'll probably be cleaning their rooms after all. That's pretty much what the maid service is for, besides keeping the public closets and bathrooms stocked.
I remember being a kid, living with my Mom and the Beta when they were happy - we were happy. Definitely not the picture perfect family. The Beta was always out working late hours but every time I would complain Mom would stand up for him on his behalf. She'd tell me "the amount he works shows just how much he loves us and wants to keep up safe and protected." I laugh at that now, but at the time, it helped me admire the Beta for his perseverance in keeping this pack stable and helping the Alpha run this pack of rogues.
I notice Marissa's straight dark black hair. She is off to the side talking to another maid. This maid is shorter than Marissa. She has short light brown hair. She looks rather friendly. Who knows, maybe I can make another female friend today.
"Hi guys," I announce as I approach the two girls.
Marissa turns to me with sparkles in her eyes as she smiles and bows in my direction, "Good morning Lucia."
The maid next to her notices me and her eyes widen as she stumbles to turn in my direction and bow, "Good morning, Luna."
I laugh and wave my hand back and forth in a dismissing manner, "I'm no Luna, please you two don't have to be so formal and bow to me. I'm a maid just like the two of you. We are equals."
As I say that the new maid raises her head and looks at my with shock. It's the good kind of shock as she smiles brightly and turns to Marissa, "you were right! She really is down to earth." Her cheeks blush bright red as she turns to me again, "I am so sorry!! That was really rude of me... I talk a lot when I'm nervous, like a lot a lot. My name is Shawna, it's super duper nice to meet you!"
I laugh aloud at her random jabber. "Nice to meet you Shawna." I turn to Marissa, "so what will I be doing today?"
"Well today is bathrooms. We have to thoroughly clean the Alpha's, Beta's, Damien's, Milena's, and Palmers. Then after, we restock the main closets in the girls and boys hall. Then restock the closets in the basement for the suites, and lastly check in with Howlers Den to make sure they don't need anything."
"Okay, let's get started then," I comment.
Marissa nods and leads us off to the cleaning supply closet. There we gather all the cleaning materials needed for the first portion of the day. We head over to the Alpha's room. Marissa knocks three times, just to be sure we aren't disturbing him. When he doesn't reply she takes it as the go ahead. She takes out a bundle of keys and sifts through them. Finally finding the one she wanted, she unlocks the door and we step into the room. I'm not surprised by the large nature of the room itself. He and the Beta have very similar rooms and I've seen the Beta's many times.
A king sized bed lies in the center of the room pushed against the wall. It is dwarfed by the sheer size of the room. The comforter is a mixture of grey, white, and blue. The rest of the room has these colors as well, mixed into the decor. The room is so large that there is a whole living/sitting area in front of the TV because of the distance between the bed and the television. It's very clean and tidy in the room. Almost as if no one lives here, which is almost true in a sense. The Alpha is rarely ever in his room. He only comes here to sleep. He's an intimidating man who is constantly working to keep this dysfunctional pack running smoothly. It really makes me wonder how fast this pack will fall apart once his lazy-ass son becomes Alpha.
"Are you coming Lucia?" Shawna asks me.
That's when I realize I've been staring at the room for a while just thinking to myself. I laugh and nod my head, following her and Marissa into the bathroom. Marissa opens the door and flicks on the light. When she does, I find a ginormous bathroom that's fit for a king. This bathroom strikes many memories into my head. Mostly because the Beta's bathroom is very similar to it. I have vivid memories of my young years bathing in the tub with my Mom and splashing around annoyingly as she tried to get us both clean. Although I was a nuisance, Mom loved us being together. We mostly had these fun bath times when the Beta was off with the Alpha somewhere, doing whatever it was that they did.
"Okay Lucia, you handle cleaning the sinks, I will take the shower and bath, and Shawna you can take the toilet. With the three of us, we should be done with those in no time and then we can target the floors all together." Marissa demands as she situates herself in front of the shower and tub.
"You got it," I confirm as I place myself in front of the mirror and put dow all my cleaning supplies.
"Sounds good," Shawna replies and she walks over to the toilet.
I take out all the cleaning supplies. I organize everything then start the cleaning process. As I'm scrubbing the grant surrounding the sink, a sinking feeling drops into my gut quickly followed by an intense amount of nausea. I freeze and close my eyes. I take deep breaths, trying to push back the feeling. Yet nothing is working. I groan lightly and I can feel my wolf stirring in my head, she's feeling woozy too.
A moment later the feeling rises to the surface. I turn on my heels, opening my eyes and quickly running over to where Shawna is. I tap her shoulder, startling her. She backs off front the toilet a bit and asks, "what's wrong?" as I flop onto my knees, grab hold of either side of the toilet and throw up into it. "ew..." she remarks quietly.
"What's going on over there?" Marissa asks from the shower area, I can hear her walking over towards us as I throw up again into the toilet.
"I'm not sure... She just got sick," Shawna says worriedly. "Are you okay Lucia?" she asks me.
I groan and nod my head, pretending I'm fine. Another bout of nausea strikes and I throw up all that's remaining in my stomach. I take a few deep breaths, a moment later Marissa is next to me holding out a bundle of toilet paper. I take it from her, wiping my face clean. Once that's done, I toss it into the bowl and flush the toilet.
"I'm fine guys," I tell them as I look up and notice the worry on their faces.
"Was it something you ate?" Marissa asks me.
I shake my head, "no I don't think so. But I really don't think it's anything to worry about. Honestly, I've been getting this nauseous feeling for a while, I think I just needed to let it all out." Especially after the turmoil I went through last night. All this pain that I've been getting from Damien is making my whole system wacko. Even my wolf is starting to get affected.
"A couple of weeks?" Marissa asks, her eyes go wide.
I nod my head as Shawna cuts in, "oh, my, god...." Her jaw drops and practically hits the floor. I raise a skeptical eye at them.
"What?"
"When's the last time you had your period?" Shawna asks me.
I'm caught off guard by the overly personal question, "Um... I'm not sure. I don't have a regular period schedule, it's usually pretty off, I miss months at a time, so I'm not sure... why?"
"Holy crow," Shawna squeaks.
Marissa still hasn't moved from her shocked position. "I can't believe it..."
"You can't believe what? What's going on?" I ask, staring to get a little angry.
Shawna excitedly glances at Marissa then turns to me and goes, "I think you're pregnant."
My jaw drops. "Excuse me, you think what now?!" I shout.
"You're pregnant..." Marissa whispers, shock written all over her face.
"Let's not get hasty here! There is no way in hell I'm pregnant." I shout nervously, my heart bouncing all over the place. It can't be true right? I can't be pregnant...
"Wait... you mean it's not possible? You haven't had sex?" Shawna asks blatantly.
Well most certainly not with Damien, but I have with Greyson... Is it possible that I am pregnant with Greyson's child? "I mean I suppose it could be possible, I just never thought-"
"I definitely think you're pregnant!" Shawna squeals, "OMG we totally need to tell the Alpha and Damien right away! I'm going to go find you a pregnancy test and tell them!" She yells excitedly and books it towards the exit.
"Shawna, no!" I shout loudly but it's too late, she's already out the room.
My heart bounces around crazily in my chest. She's going to tell the Alpha and Damien, and if I take that test and it's positive, Damien will know I've been cheating on him, and he knows the only person it could be is Greyson. Now what? Is he going to kick Greyson out? I find the room closing in on me as my breathing gets shorter. I start to hyperventilate so I grab onto the side of the toilet and try to focus on my breathing.
After a few minutes of taking deep breaths in and letting some deep breaths out, I find myself relaxing. Stressing and freaking out is most certainly not going to help the situation. I need to think logically. What's the best way to handle this? I think I need to talk to Greyson and let him know as soon as possible. He will know what to do.
I wonder what he will say?
Will he be angry with me? Will he leave me?
I feel my heart squeeze uncomfortably. I glance over to find Marissa still standing nearby. Her eyes have gone dark and her hands are squeezed very tightly.
"Um, Marissa, what's wrong?" I ask her.
As the words leave my mouth, she jolts upright. She looks down at me and her expression changes slightly, it's a tad softer than it was before but I can still tell something's off. "Nothing is wrong... Um, I should say congratulations on the baby. I'm sure Damien will be thrilled to hear he's going to have a a child soon."
I snort, "yeah, I'm sure he's going to be thrilled..." My heart pumps wildly in my chest as true fear runs through me. What is he going to do? Damien is unpredictable. He could do anything, try and kill me, kick Greyson out, or worse, try to kill the baby... I really need to be on my guard. He obviously is going to know that the kid isn't his...
"I'm sure the Alpha will be happy as well to hear the news..."
"The news still isn't confirmed yet, let's not jump to any conclusions..." I say nervously, but something in my gut is telling me that it's all true. That I do have a baby growing in my belly because a part of me is starting to feel protective of it...
"As you wish..." Marissa states.
A silence falls between the two of us. I sit there for a while contemplating what to do. Then I decide I need to speak with Greyson. He has to know the truth. I need him to find out before Damien.
"Marissa, I'm still feeling a bit under the weather, would you mind if I leave? I hate to do this on my first real day of work, but I really wasn't expecting this type of news."
"Of course, Shawna and I can definitely handle it all on our own." She remarks. I give her a thankful nod.
I grab onto the toilet seat and use it to hoist myself up from the ground. Shakily I turn and wander out the bathroom and out of the Alpha's room. I check and look down the hall to find no one. I sigh in relief and start my shaky journey to go rest and wait for Greyson to get back from the mission. The only bright side to them being on a mission right now, is the fact that Damien is with them too, so there's no way he's going to find out about the pregnancy until after they return, so thankfully, I have time.
