New Mission
"Holy crap." Rina says through her deep panting, "You guys... do this... daily?"
I laugh, tucking a loose strand of hair back into my ponytail. "I wouldn't say daily, but we certainly train a lot. On the days we aren't training, we usually have a mission to go on."
"Oh god, I hope you don't run like this on missions, I will never be able to survive." She says kneeling on the ground.
She is sitting there holding herself up by her knees while panting hard. I'm leaning on a tree next to her, waiting for the rest of the guys to get back from the run. Since it is her first time, I took her on a shorter path. As one can see, she is practically dying from just that.
Barks sound from the woods, causing me to quickly turn in the direction of the noise. A dark brown wolf sprints across the tree line, quickly followed by two blonde wolves. The brown wolf skids to a stop, turning to face his followers. He stands proudly as the other two slow down, shaking their heads in disappointment.
A moment passes and a lighter brown wolf races through. He slows down and stands next to the dark brown wolf, slightly panting.
Well, looks like we are only missing one person.
"Where is Derek?" I ask.
The wolves turn my way and I smile as the all try to shrug. They look so funny. I hear a giggle to my left. Looking down, I notice Rina laughing at the boys. I join her for a moment and we hear grunts and sighs coming from the boys.
"Go change and we will wait for him to start the last part of training." I demand, still slightly laughing from their weirdness.
Following my orders, the wolves file behind the trees, dispersing to their designated spots where they left their clothes. It seems Greyson is doing great with the training and Leo is as well.
Derek has never been a fast one or a strong one, but he sure as hell has brains. We don't make him train with us all the time, considering he has a bunch of other things to attend to. It's not like he ever does anything physical anyway, since the Alpha is constantly putting his head to work.
A second later, a red, gray, and white wolf staggers into the back yard. He collapses into a heap on the floor, panting dramatically. I smirk at him. Poor guy.
"Welcome back Derek." I say casually, still against the tree.
He doesn't move his head but instead chooses to glare at me with his eyes. He acts like it's my fault this run is difficult for him! Blame your genes man!
"Everyone is changing. Hurry up and join them." I add, nodding toward the woods.
He lets out a wolfish whimper but shakily rises to his feet. He slowly makes his way to his changing area in the woods.
"Aww, poor Derek. Maybe he should have taken the shorter route with us?" Rina suggests just a little too late.
I shrug, "I don't know. Derek has been doing this for a while now. Although he isn't very fast or strong, he doesn't train with us often. I figure, when he does train, we should push him to his limits."
Rina slowly stands from the ground, her knees muddy with a couple of grass blades on each leg. She brushes them off.
"I guess you're right. Do you think I will ever be able to keep up with the rest of the squad?" She asks timidly.
"Of course," I look out toward the woods, "you did great on your first day. I made sure to push you to your limits and you never stopped once. You have a lot of potential. Plus you are small so you're agility will be good later on."
"Really?" She remarks.
"Real-"
"Lucia, Lucia!" A little squealing voice shouts, getting closer and closer.
I whip my head toward the pack house, watching a little black haired girl running toward me with an envelope flopping in her hand. Milena?
As I step toward her, she collides with my body, embracing me in a hug. I gently drop down to her level after she releases me.
"Hey Milena." This is weird, she never comes to see me.
"Hi Lucia. My daddy sent me on a special mission to deliver this to you!" She holds the envelope out in front of herself. Well that explains it.
I grab it from her, "Well isn't that sweet of you." I say, patting her head with my hand.
She giggles, "Well, I will do anything for daddy!"
"Milena, what are you doing talking to that brat?" A familiar voice echoes across the yard.
Oh great.
I stand, looking up at Palmer who is approaching us.
"The annoying ten-year-old is calling me a brat?" I retort.
He grunts, "I am twelve, thank you very much. Now step away from Milena."
The little girl turns around, rolling her eyes at Palmer, "Daddy sent me to give this letter to her. Stop following me around everywhere Palmy!"
A pout forms on his lips, "Milena, I'm only trying to look after you. Your dad asked that of me."
I sigh, "Well as long as you were both trying to do what the Alpha asked, then you are both in the right."
Milena sighs, "Alright, I guess, I forgive you Palmy... Well I will see you later Lucia!"
She skips toward Palmer. He wraps her hand in his own.
"Thank you Milena!" I shout as they go.
She laughs and waves good bye. Palmer glances over his shoulder and sticks his tongue at me. I roll my eyes. What an annoying ass of a stepbrother.
I glance down at the letter from the Alpha.
I tear open the envelope. I slip the paper out, unfolding it.
Rogue Squad,
We just received notice that a huge shipment of hunter weapons will be crossing through our town. We can't let this get by unscathed. It will be traveling down the local highway tomorrow afternoon. Please ready the team and steal all the equipment in the shipment. We can't let our enemies get away with this. Let me know how it goes.
Serg
I sigh. I knew it, the letter was a mission. A weird one at that. This is a first for intercepting werewolf hunters.
"Whatcha got there?" Rina asks curiously.
"Alpha Serg is sending us on a mission tomorrow." I state, folding the paper back up. Tucking it away, back into the envelope.
"Did I just hear 'mission'?" Raymond asks as he and the rest of the boys emerge from the woods.
They are all shirtless. I can't help my eyes from immediately noticing Greyson. He is somewhat sweaty, but it just adds to his sexiness if you ask me. I can feel my mouth watering. Wait, why am I thinking like such a girl? Snap out of it Lucia.
"Glad you could finally join us," I state then peer down at the letter. Distracting myself from Greyson, "but yes you heard right. Apparently we will be stealing weapons."
"Weapons? Why, that stuff is of no use to werewolves." Greyson cuts in.
I nod, "That's usually the case, but these aren't just any weapons. They are hunter's weapons."
Derek steps out from the back of the group, "So that means they are made with silver and wolf's bain. Right?"
I nod hesitantly, "Thats's what I'm assuming. Since that combination is one of only things that can easily slow us down or even kill us in one shot."
"Why do you guys seem weird about this? Isn't it just a mission? You do these things all the time." Leo says.
"Leo have you ever tried to take something important from a hunter?" I ask him.
He thinks for a moment but proceeds to shrug, "Not that I can think of."
"Neither have I." I sigh, "Looks like tomorrow will be a first for all of us."
"So are you saying this is going to be more dangerous than a normal mission?" Rina cuts in.
I turn to her, "Yup. Since you just started training today, I'm going to have to ask you to skip out on tomorrow." I turn to Greyson and Leo, "Same goes for you guys too."
Greyson raises an eyebrow, "Just because I'm new doesn't mean I'm not coming."
I look at him worriedly, "This could be really dangerous. One small slip up could mean an injury for anyone on the team."
His dark emerald eyes pierce into me, "I won't mess up."
I sigh. I don't know why he can influence me so easily. Plus I trust him. If he says he won't mess up, then I believe him. "Fine, you can come."
"I'm coming too." Leo adds.
"Same." Rina cuts in. I turn to her, shaking my head.
"No way. You have to stay here. I'm not going to let your first mission be this dangerous."
She grunts, "But-"
"No buts. This is how is has to be. I'm sorry Rina."
She sighs, disappointed. Luckily, I can tell she understands, I think.
Leo shoots his arm out, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Don't worry, There is always next time."
She looks up at him and I can see something shimmer in her eyes. She seems elated by Leo's touch. Wow, she acts just like I do with Greyson. We must really have crushes on the new guys.
"Thanks Leo," she says.
He smirks, lifting his hand from her shoulder. Her eyes dull sadly, but she quickly covers it up.
"So are we going to continue training, or should we start getting ready for tomorrow?" Ruben asks, sweat still dripping from his blonde head.
"We should start getting ready." I answer, "Derek, I will meet you in your room after you shower. We need to come up with a game plan. The rest of you, I want to go shower. After Derek and I get a general idea of what to do, I will inform you on what weapons to load into the truck."
They all nod in understanding. I raise an eyebrow at them as they continue to stare at me.
"You are all dismissed now."
They laugh at my response. Raymond claps Ruben on the shoulder, leading him into the house. Leo starts up a conversation with Rina, but Derek quickly cuts into their conversation to talk to Leo.
"So, hunters huh?" Greyson asks.
I jump, slightly startled by his voice. I was so zoned out and focused on everyone else that I forgot he was still here. My heart pounds rapidly.
"Uh, yeah it appears so." I think for a moment, "It's weird though."
"What's weird?"
"The hunters have never been this much of a threat to our pack. Sure they are troublesome for rogues, but to our huge pack? Why is the Alpha so worried?"
"Do you think he knows something we don't."
I sigh, "He always knows something we don't."
