Hunter's Quarrel
"Luis, why don't we just kill him already?"
My head aches as the sounds of the world begin to funnel into my ears. Sharp stings rush through my skull as I start to gain consciousness again.
"We just can't Mark. Shut up." There is a pause, "Now tell us how you found out about this shipment."
"I told you, I don't know anything." Leo's frightened voice answers.
Leo? What?
Confusion fills me until a sharp memory fills my mind.
Oh no. He is with those hunter's. The ones who caught us.
"Ow!" Leo screeches as I hear a loud cracking slap that comes from the direction of their voices.
Anger builds inside me. I know they hit him. They must torturing him for information. Information that also actually doesn't have. My veins fill with fury at the thought of Leo being hurt, especially since it's all my fault he's here. He wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for me... I need to get him out.
I peek my eyes open. In the near distance, I can see the two Hunter boys hovering over Leo, who is laying on the ground. Their backs are facing me. Leo's hands appear to be tied behind his back, just like mine. He is bloodied and tired.
I contort my body quietly as I reach down to my boot. I feel around for a bit. Excitement fills my body as my fingers skim over my pocket tool. It's a good thing there is a knife in there. I quickly fish it out and flick open the knife. I start to saw through the rope.
"Tell us everything you know. Keeping your mouth shut won't help you in this case." The blonde, who I'm assuming is Luis, says.
"I told you. I know nothing."
Punch.
"You're stubborn as all hell. Wait until the boss gets a hold of you. You will be begging to tell us what we want to know." Luis grunt.
Leo is panting hard, clearly they have been at this for a while. The dark haired guy walks over to a briefcase on the ground and pops it open. As I watch, I continue to saw through the thick rope. He pulls out a needle. I squint my eyes to try and see more clearly. The liquid inside is blue. My eyes widen.
Shit.
The dark haired guy, Mark I believe, walks over to Leo who is barely staying awake. He is so weak and worn down. I can't believe I have been knocked out long enough for it to get this bad.
Mark beds down and stabs the needle into Leo's arm. Leo grunts in pain.
I try to saw faster but the rope is barely budging. I need to save Leo soon. That was wolf's Bain. It's know to inhibit a werewolves ability to shift. It might affect his healing ability too.
Luis nods in my direction, "Mark go do the girl too."
Mark nods and returns to the briefcase, grabbing another needle. I feel my wolf begin go stir in desperation. I hurriedly saw as he stands.
I open my eyes completely as he heads my way. I sit up and desperately back up to a tree that's behind me.
He smiles evilly, "Ah so you're awake now. See what we did to your friend over there? Well you're up next for questioning."
"Wait, don't hurt me." I beg.
He sighs, "You know, you're kinda cute. But I need to keep reminding myself how much of a beast you are."
Beast? I feel my wolf grow angrier, but I put on a worried face.
"Beast? I haven't done anything to give me that title. Those men in the van just caught me and forced me to help them rob that truck, and now here I am." I say looking into his eyes seriously.
He raises an eyebrow, "Are you trying to play dumb? I vividly remember you attacking me."
He squats down next to me and I sigh, "what was I supposed to do when they threatened my family?"
"They threatened your family?"
I nod, "They told me if I didn't help them then they would kill my entire family. So thank you for saving me." I add with happiness shinning in my eyes. That's when I feel the rope give.
He gives me a sad look, "Shit, I didn't know that the rogues were so heartless." He sighs, "the only thing is, Luis will hate me if I don't give this to you. Don't worry it will only last a couple of hours but I will convince him to release you and kill the boy, alright?"
He reaches toward me with the needle and I frown at him.
"Actually, that's not alright." I reach out with my freed hands and quickly turn the needle on him. I dig it into his neck and he grunts, "Who knew hunters were so gullible."
I inject him with the Wolf's Bain, which realistically shouldn't do anything harmful to him. He grunts angrily.
"You bitch-"
I quickly punch him as hard as I can in the face and he falls to the floor, unconscious. I look up and see Luis crouched over Leo. I growl to myself. I reach behind me to grab my gun. To my dismay, it's not there.
Damn it, they must have taken it from me. I glance down at Mark's unconscious body and see something glimmer from his back pocket. I reach down and swipe it up. As I do, a burning sensation tears through my hand and all the way up my arm. I grunt and notice that it is a silver gun. Great. Just my luck.
I bear the burning pain. This is the only way to help save Leo. I quietly walk over to where Luis and Leo are. The pain in my hands continue.
Luis has Leo by the collar of his shirt. Leo is still panting and dripping in his own blood. Luis wields his arm back, getting ready to punch Leo again.
I point the gun at Luis's head and release the safety. A click rings through the air as I growl, "Stop."
Luis freezes in his tracks at my voice. He can sense the danger he is in.
"Release him." I demand.
Luis laughs to himself, "I shouldn't have trusted Mark on his own."
"Shut up and release him. Now!" I growl angrily at him.
He lets go of Leo, who falls to the floor in a heap. Leo groans in pain. His eyes slowly start to close. My heart races nervously.
Hang in there Leo.
I glare at Luis, "Hands up and step away from him."
Luis turns my way, but doesn't put his hands up or step away. He just smirks. My hands throb. It feels like I'm holding onto fire.
"I said step away."
He raises an eyebrow at me, "You and I both know that you're holding onto a hunters gun. It hurts, doesn't it?"
I growl, "If you don't step away and put your hands up, I won't hesitate to shoot you."
He laughs, "Oh like you would shoot-"
Bang.
I fire the gun and his screams echo through the woods. Blood runs down his injured leg as he cradles it.
"You bitch, you actually shot me!"
I growl, "I told you I would." I step up to him. His eyes shine in fear. I crank the gun back and whack it straight across his head. The sound of the silver hitting his skull makes an uncomfortable cracking sound. He falls to the ground unconscious. I sigh and quickly toss the gun to the side. I look at my hands which are bright red and blistering, as if I was actually holding onto fire. I quickly shake them and refocus my attention.
I run to Leo's side and bend down. I lift his bloody head and place it into my lap. I shake him gentle.
"Leo?" I ask quietly.
Nothing.
"Leo wake up!" I shout at him.
He lays there motionless. I feel tears line my eyes. It's too late. I should have woken up sooner. I was too weak.
A light groan sounds from bellow me. My eyes widen. I bend down and hear faint breaths.
"Leo!" I shake him again. If he is alive he might have a concussion. He shouldn't sleep.
His eyes start to open a bit and I let out a sigh of relief. Thank god he is okay. I don't know what I would have done.
I shake him gently, "Leo you have to stay awake. Do you hear me?"
"Why... I'm... so... tired...." I smile sadly.
"I know but you might have a concussion." I quickly rip my sleeve off and dap Leo's face wounds. My white shirt quickly soaks up the crimson redness of his blood. "We need to go. Soon. They can wake up anytime."
He slowly lifts himself up from the ground. He pushes himself up but stumbles. I jump out to catch him. I sturdy myself and him.
I look at him sympathetically, "Think you can manage to hold on to a running wolf?"
He gives me a questioning look, "Running... wolf?"
I nod, "I'm going to shift and bring you back to the pack house. You need to see someone about these wounds and stat."
"Yeah I can definitely manage that. Think you can carry me?" I laugh.
"I could hold about six of you. Speaking of which, we are taking that one," I motion toward Luis on the ground, "Back with us."
"You.. want to bring... a hunter back?" He says through pained breaths.
I nod angrily, "He is going to get a piece of my mind for doing this to you. Don't think he won't pay."
"Alright..." He says.
"I'm going to go shift. Just roll him onto my back, hop on and hold on tight." I say.
He nods in understanding. I help him hobble over to Luis. I quickly run behind a near by tree. I strip out of my clothes, leaving my boots, shirt and pants on the ground.
I shift into my white wolf and run out to Leo. As I'm approaching, I see him stumble. I dart out next to him, managing to catch him before he falls. He looks down at me and smiles.
"Thanks Lucia."
I let out a sad whimper. He uses me as leverage to stand again. We need to leave so I crouch next to Luis's body. Leo kneels and drags him halfway over my back. Leo then throws one leg over me, so he is straddling me. I stand, lifting the two guys on my back.
I glance back at Leo. He grabs onto a tuff of fur and nods at me.
"Ready to go."
I face forward and walk deeper into the woods. I have no idea where we are, but I have a good feeling we are near the highway. Once I find that, I can follow it all the way home.
Bang.
A shot rings through the air as a stinging pain flashes through my front right shoulder. My wolf cries out in pain. Shit!
I feel blood seeping down my fur. I take this time to take off into a full on sprint, ignoring the sharp pains flowing through me.
"Get back here!" Mark yells.
I hear a few more gun fires, but they grow more and more distant as I run away. I feel Leo's grip tighten on me. The wind engulfs us as my speed increases.
"Shit, Lucia... Are you... okay?" He asks me, still struggling to breathe.
I let out a bark, to show I'm alright, even though the pain continues to grow. My paws ache and now my shoulder is shot but none of that matters. What matters is Leo. That's my mission. I need to get Leo back. Now isn't the time to be a wimp about a small scrape from a bullet. I rush on ahead, searching for the smallest sign of home.
