Got Back in the Nick of Time
I toss a loose grey t-shirt on over my head. Reaching back into the tree, I grab a pair of red men's shorts. My hands sting as I pull them up my legs. I hiss a strained breath in, trying to hold in my scream. It's a good thing our pack leaves spare clothes all along the tree line or else this would have been awkward for both Leo and myself.
After about five hours of running through the woods with the two guys slouched on my back, I found a familiar street. It only took me about ten minutes to get them back here, at the pack house, after that.
I step out from behind the tree. My eyes fall upon Leo who is currently leaning against the shed in order to support his body. Luis is still passed out at Leo's feet. I jog over to them urgently. Ignoring the unconscious hunter, I turn to my disheveled friend who looks like he is going to croak any second.
"We need to get you looked at. Now." I demand.
He shakily glances at me. His face is pale and completely drained of energy. He slowly nods in understanding. I hop to his side and slide under his right arm. He slumps on me a bit and I use most the energy I have left to support him. He tries to steady himself by putting pressure on my right shoulder with his right arm. I suck in a sharp breath, trying to not think about the stinging pain that rushes through my arm at his touch.
Damn, looks like that wound still isn't healed yet. I mean my palms are still blistered, but that is nothing compared to my shoulder's pain. It was definitely a silver bullet, luckily it wasn't filled with Wolf's Bane or else I wouldn't have made it back in wolf form. It would have inhibited me to shift.
I bite my lip as to avoid screaming. I help him hobble all the way back to the pack house. Every step must feel like a mile to him. He couldn't possible get any weaker than this. There is dried and wet blood running all down his head. He's pale and stumbling every second. When we make it in, there are pack members scattered all around.
Everyone is talking so loud and creating a huge ruckus. It appears to be just like any other day in this pack. As I lead him through the doorway, no one turns our way. We get a few glances but no one seems to really care. That's how it usually is here, every man for himself.
It's fine. We don't need their help anyway. I know just where to go.
He slowly but surely follows my lead, down the stairs and straight to our destination.
I knock on the door and wait patiently. Glancing over at Leo, I see him fading in and out of consciousness. I tap my foot angrily and listen through the door. When I do, I hear sobbing coming from the other side. What the hell is she crying about?
Instead of waiting for her to answer, I kick the door open hard. It flings, slamming into the wall creating a huge bang. To my surprise, I not only see my Mom, but also Rina, crying on my couch. The scene is actually more pathetic than sad, but my heart thumps nervously in my chest. I wonder what happened?
"What is going on here?" I question them nervously and partially out of breath.
They freeze mid cry. Slowly, Mom's head perks up a bit and so does Rina's. They turn to me unsure but at the same time, they seem a bit relieved.
Once they actually see Leo and myself, their face turns to that of horror. Do we really look that bad?
"Lucia." Mom whispers surprised.
"Leo!" Rina cries sadly as she springs from the couch and runs to his side, "Oh my god. What happened?"
He tries to laugh but ends up coughing painfully instead. A small trickle of blood falls down the side of his mouth. "We... got caught..."
Rina's eyes start tear up, "So it was true..." She pauses then quickly gets her thoughts together, she pushes away the tears, "Come lie down."
She motions for us to follow her to the couch. I comply and drag him along. When we get there, I gently help Leo down to the couch. He grunts and slowly flops down. My body is relieved a bit from putting down his weight. Rina jumps to the floor, kneeling at his side. I watch nervously and she places the back side of her hand to his forehead to test for a fever.
Suddenly, arms encircle me from the back. I'm squeezed tightly and another flash of pain surges through my right shoulder then through my whole body. I feel my legs go weak as I hold back a cry.
"Lucia we were told there was no hope. They said you were abducted by hunters as the mission was finishing up." Mom whispers into my ear. Her voice sounds broken.
She releases me and I let out a sigh of relief. The pain is still clear in my arm and hands but I avoid them. It's not the time to deal with that just yet.
"We were taken, but luckily they seemed to be amateurs. Actually, I brought one back for questioning." I announce casually.
My eyes go wide.
"Shit." I shout.
Mom gives me a weird look, "You brought one back? And no swearing!"
"I left him outside." I turn to mom, "I need you to take care of Leo. I know you were training to be a nurse when you were younger and I know we don't have a pack doctor. So please mom, take care of him?"
She smiles gently and caresses my face, "Of course I will nurse him back to health. Now you go take care of that bastard. Make him pay." Anger shines in her eyes.
Wow, that's a different side of her.
I turn to Rina who is currently nursing Leo's wounds with a cloth, "Rina, my mom knows what she is doing when it comes to healing someone, so listen to her, okay?"
Rina turns to me all teary eyed, "Okay..." I turn to walk out the room, "wait Lucia." I glance back at her, "I'm sorry for getting mad at you earlier. You were right."
I smile genuinely, "It's fine don't worry about that now. Leo is what's important." She slowly nods in agreement.
With that, I turn and sprint from the room. My heart pounds nervously. What if Luis woke up while I was helping Leo? If he got away, I will have to track him. There is no way I'm letting this bastard get away with doing something so cruel to my friend.
I fling the back door open. To my relief, Luis is still knocked out, face first, on the ground. I jog over to him. I grab his hands and quickly drag him toward the house. His leg is still bleeding from the gun shot, but I could care less. This guy practically killed Leo. He deserves no sympathy.
My hands sting from the recently formed blisters and my right arm doesn't appear to be healing either. It must have something to do with the hunter's weapons. The silver must also inhibit my healing ability or something.
I drag him all the way to the pack house when suddenly the back door bursts open.
Raymond stands there with Ruben close behind. Raymond's eyes are shocked. His hair is frizzed and messy as he stares at me.
"Lucia..." he whispers.
"That's my name." I answer with a smirk.
He walks to my side and places a hand gently on my head. His eyes show how glad he is to see me so I smile for his sake, to show that I'm alright.
"We were so worried... Damien hit the release before any of us could say no. Then he took over the wheel..."
"It's fine Raymond, really. I wouldn't want to put you guys in danger too. It's probably better you got away." I sigh and drop Luis's arms to the floor. My hands feel slightly relieved after dropping all that weight, "How did you know I was back?"
"Your mom just called. Speaking of which, we will be taking this fella." Raymond reaches down and scoops Luis up, tossing him over his shoulder.
"Wait! I'm not done with him." I growl.
Ruben pops into the conversation, "Don't worry Lucia. We will be taking him to the Right Wing Dungeon. No one will touch him. For now you need to take care of this and then go to sleep."
Ruben tosses me a pair of keys. I snatch them mid air. My hand stings but I try to push away the pain and glance down at the item in my hand. Huh?
"What?" I ask confused.
"Those are keys to the Left Wing Dungeon." Ruben says causing me to roll my eyes.
"I know that but why are you giving them to me?" I ask.
Ruben laughs and pushes Raymond and Luis through the back door and into the pack house, "You will just have to find out." I watch them disappear.
I glance back down at the keys in my hand. I'm so confused.
----
I walk through the halls of the Left Wing Dungeon. Damn, it has been a while since I have been here.
The walls are still old and worn down bricks. Cracks ride up from the floors and down from the ceiling. Cobwebs hang in corners. To be honest, I feel like one small earthquake could tumble this place in an instant.
I walk down the dimly lit halls.
I wonder what they are sending me down here for? Maybe the Alpha needs me to watch another questioning?
Well that wouldn't really make sense. The right wing is used for prisoners. Typically the left wing is used as more of a jail for anyone who goes completely insane in the pack. It's really hard to be locked down here since this pack pretty much has no rules to be disobeyed.
As I turn right, I see a figure moving back and forth in a cell. The person is pacing quickly from one side to the other. As I get closer, I start to recognize a body that I would know anywhere.
Greyson.
"This feels a bit like Deja vu." I remark as I get closer to his cell, "What are you doing down here?"
Greyson stops in his tracks at the sound of my voice. He turns to me immediately. His eyes lock onto mine instantly.
That's when I notice the worry in his eyes. He seems completely worn out and exhausted. I find myself frozen in place. I don't think I have ever seen that expression on him or really anyone before.
"Lucia?" He asks, sounding completely unsure and so unlike him.
"In the flesh." I answer.
I step toward his cell and ready the key to go into the lock. As I get to his door, I slip the key in and turn. A loud click echos through the empty corridor. I pull the cell door toward myself. The metal screeches against the floor as I open it wide.
He still seems shaken up. I know he must be thinking about Leo. He is going to become a lot more disheveled when her finds out the condition his best friend is in.
Greyson's hair is a mess. It is most likely from him running his fingers through it impatiently as he walked back and fourth in the cell. He does that a lot when he is worried.
Without having a second to think, I'm suddenly wrapped up in Greyson's embrace. His muscular arms squeeze me tightly to his warm chest. My heart pounds nervously but my wolf purrs in content. Luckily for me, his arms landed lower than my wound so when he squeezes it doesn't hurt.
My heart thumps and I feel myself relax in his arms. His warm aura soothing my stressed demeanor. I restrain myself from nuzzling into him further.
To my dismay, he pulls back and looks into my eyes worried. I feel myself stumble a bit but I hold myself up. "What about Leo?"
"He is safe," Greyson sighs in relief. Oh yeah, I forgot Leo was his top priority, "but he isn't healthy... My mom is caring for him. The hunters beat him up pretty bad."
My legs start to feel weak as the pain from my hands and upper arm begin to spread throughout my body. Shit, it looks like my adrenaline just wore out. Black spots start to cloud my vision. I fight to stay conscious.
"But he will be okay?" He asks nervously.
"Yeah I think so," I feel the room start to spin, "he was injected with wolf's bain, but in a couple of hours, maybe longer he should be able to shift again-"
I stumble sideways as I begin to feel nauseous with pain.
Two strong arms catch me before I fall to the ground. They steady me and help me back up to my feet. My legs struggle to hold me up.
"Lucia? Are you okay?" Greyson asks in a soft voice, as if I'm going to break. Does this mean he is worried? That's not good. He needs to stay focused on his friend.
"Yeah, I just used up all my energy is all." I can't have him worrying. Especially not with Leo in the condition he is in.
"Lucia you look pale. I don't think you are just tired. What's wrong?" He asks, more seriously and stern this time.
I grunt. Now isn't the time for this. I should bring him to Leo. That's most likely what's on his mind.
"Nothing is wrong. I'm fine." I hold myself up and he lowers his arms from lifting me up, "See, I just lost my balance. Now let's go see Leo."
I turn and go to walk away. As I do, I see more black spots but try to focus as best I can. The pain seems to be getting worse and worse. As I take another step, my legs give out from underneath me.
Falling toward the ground, a hand grabs onto my upper right arm. Pain flashes up from the wound and spreads through my whole body instantly. I barely have time to hiss in a sharp breath to cover up the pain before blackness completely takes over my vision.
