Dungeon of Hope?
Just as I thought, the security hasn't changed one bit.
I slink around the walls and dodge every camera that I see. I know that once I get close, I have to take a secret passageway or else the security alarms will be triggered by my motion. I creep my way down the hall. As I reach the corridor that has the motion detectors, I turn to my right and see the air vent. Luckily we have large vents in the dungeons to keep fresh air circulating in and out.
I pull out my handy pocket tool device that also has a screw driver attached to it. I slowly unscrew the bottom two screws and put them in my pocket. See I can't remove all of them in case someone walks by this way, The ventilation screen needs to be kept in place. I crouch onto my hands and knees and wiggle my way under the screen. Once I get through, I start to crawl.
This is one of the only bad parts about the job. Dust lines the whole floor and my nice black shirt and jean shorts get covered in dust. I continue on my way and after following the path that I mapped out in my head, I reach the section that I need to be at. Unfortunately, this ventilation screen is also screwed in tightly. Luckily, I came prepared for everything.
I pull out my pocket knife again and slip out the mini screwdriver. I grab a small metal extension pole from my pocket that allows me access outside of the vent while I am inside. After attaching the screwdriver to the pole, I wiggle it through the holes in the vent and start to unscrew the bottom two screws again. This takes me a few extra minutes because it's more difficult trying to get out of a vent then trying to get in.
I complete the task with ease, placing my pole and pocket knife back into my pocket. I wiggle back out of the vent. I take my time scanning my surroundings. I smile. It looks like I am close. I creep toward the cell section where we normally hold prisoners. As I'm about to turn the corner, I quickly stop. My breathe hitches in my throat when arguing voices hit my ears.
"-heard them. They said that they just want to join the pack Serg. No harm can be done from adding two more to our pack. They will just help us build our army." Beta Emanuel says.
Holy crap! They are down here? I had no idea that the Beta and the Alpha would already be placing judgment on the rogues.
"Dad, you can't just let them into the pack." Shock spreads through my body as I realize Damien is also down here.
"Emanuel, Damien is right. We have no idea what these boys are capable of. We already have enough people in our pack, we are strong and can beat the strongest of packs at this point." Alpha Serg argues.
"That's true but would you rather be able to beat the strongest of packs or be able to beat all the packs at once? If we continue to grow in strength and numbers we can get closer to our goal."
This makes both Damien and Alpha Serg quiet. Damn, dad has a good point there. Honestly I just want to see what these rogues look like, and according to the conversation it sounds like they are going to be two males. Especially if they are talking about building an army. Most of the time, the men in the pack fight.
"Dad I personally don't think it is worth it. We have enough people. Once we gain more money we will have more then enough firepower to blow away all the packs on this planet. We don't need two measly kids."
Kids? Does that mean they are planning on sentencing two young boys to death instead of welcoming them into the pack? Are you kidding me? I knew we were heartless but this is just plain unnecessary.
"That's my boy, always thinking of the future." There is a slight pause then I hear, "We don't need these boys. We can dispose of them tonight."
Tonight?! That soon? What's the rush to kill two young boys? I can't sit around and let this happen.
"Wait!" I shout as I pop out from behind the wall.
All three heads whip around in my direction and I feel my cheeks flame bright red. Oh boy, I really did it this time.
"I'm sorry it's just I couldn't help but overhear and I think that they could help us."
Damien's face turns ice cold as he glares at me with his pitch black eyes, "This is no place for a girl like you Lucia." he growls and approaches me.
I gulp deeply. People rarely ever intimidate me, but Damien and the Alpha have so much more power then me, plus my wolf submits to their orders. I need to be weary around them. Slowly I take a step back, "But we could train them for the Squad and have them do jobs and get us even more money." I add quickly as Damien grabs my wrist forcefully.
I suck in a deep breath as he squeezes down on my already bruised arms.
"Hold on Damien." Alpha Serg says as he approaches us.
I notice that my father hasn't moved. Honestly he hasn't even looked at me since I came out from behind the wall. That just shows how disappointed he is in me.
"How did you get down here?" Alpha Serg asks me.
Oh shit.
"I um..." I take in a slow breath, he will know if I'm lying. I have to tell him the truth. Shakily I say, "I snuck past the cameras, picked the screws on the vents and managed to by pass the motion censors..."
Silence.
Then I hear a large laugh and suddenly a hand lands on top of my head. I look up to see the Alpha pleased with me. Umm... what?
"Well there you go, this little squirt just managed to sneak around the most hi-tech equipment that we have in this joint. Damien you could learn a thing or two from Lucia here."
Pride swells in my heart. I can't believe the Alpha is actually smiling happily. I don't think I have ever seen him do that. My happiness is quickly crushed as Damien squeezes my wrist harder in anger. I can hear a small growl rippling in his chest. Great, I pleased the Alpha but pissed off his son.
"Dad she is just a stupid girl, we already made our decision."
That's when the Alpha's mood snaps unexpectedly from elated to pissed in mere seconds. His face turns angry and his eyes darken into his wolf's.
"If you try to question my judgment one more time, I will not hesitate to beat your ass, do you hear me?" The Alpha spits.
Damien's hand lightens around my wrist and I take advantage of this moment and slip completely out of his grip. Then I slowly inch away from the fuming family.
"I said do you hear me!" He screams in full on Alpha tone.
My heart quivers in my chest and I fight the feeling of wanting to cower on the floor. Damien drops down to one knee and bows his head.
"Yes sir."
"Good," and just like that the Alpha has full control over his body again. His whole demeanor changes. "Now I am putting you and Lucia in charge of the boys. Take them to their rooms, show them around the pack house, train them hard. I want them going out on the mission tomorrow morning, do you understand?"
"Yes sir." Damien and I answer at the same time.
Bring them with us on the mission tomorrow? But they are only kids, how can they help us on a mission with such little training?
"Very good." Alpha Serg turns toward my father and says, "Well then, let's go Emanuel. I have places to go and people to see."
My father nods submissively and follows behind the Alpha as they go to leave. Before they reach the hall that I came from, the Alpha stops in his track. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a ring with a couple of keys hanging off of it. He tosses them to Damien who catches them in his right hand.
"Unlock the boys and show them around. Make them feel welcome in their new home."
With that, they are gone.
Well that sure as hell was a turn of events. Never in my life have I seen the Alpha smile at something that didn't involve money or his daughter, and especially not toward me. Then he even yelled at Damien. His face was priceless! Damien was practically shitting himself!
Suddenly I feel my back slam up against the wall. Before I can blink, Damien has his right forearm pressed against my neck and the other against the wall near my head. Air becomes scarce as he presses harder against my windpipe.
He leans in and I can see that his eyes are practically taken over by his wolf's. The blood rushes from my face and I feel my color draining as I start to suffocate. I try to suck in air but he is blocking my pipes.
"Don't you ever try and embarrass me in front of my father again. What happened just now stays between you and me. Do you understand?" He spits.
I nod my head and he grunts angrily. He finally release me from the wall and I fall to the floor and grab my neck. I suck in as much air as I can take. After a few moments I can start to feel the color return to my face and I lean back against the wall. A few seconds later, a small weight lands in my lap. I look down and see the bundle of keys.
"Let them out and show them around. You wanted them here so you are in charge of them." He states as he walks out of the room.
I sigh and grab the keys in my hand.
Of course he leaves them with me. Damien has no sese of responsibility. He is just a jerk who tells everyone to do his dirty work so he can get credit for it. Hense this whole Squad thing. Damien is the leader but we do all the dirty work. He rarely helps us out but takes a huge portion from the money we make. It isn't fair, but who am I to tell him what he can and can't do. He is the Alpha's son afterall.
I use the wall to push myself off of the ground. Once I get to my feet, I walk down the corridor toward the cell blocks. Honestly, if they are just little rogue boys, I don't see why I just had to argue for them to be let into the pack. How cruel can a person be?
As I get to the cells, I slow my pace. I walk in front of the door and peer into it.
"What the hell...?" I say.
"Who the heck are you?" A deep voice asks from inside the cell.
The guy is leaning against the back wall. He has dark brown almost black hair, a great build, and appears to be around twenty-two, so about Damien's age. I stare at him dumbfounded.
"Greyson don't be so rude!" The guy sitting on the makeshift bed yells at his friend. This guy is probably closer to my age so he is probably nineteen or twenty. He has a great build too, only he is a little less built than his friend Greyson, and he has brown hair that seems to be around the same color as mine.
"Don't be so rude? We ask to join their pack and then they go and throw us into this shit hole?"
"You best start having patience. We aren't leaving you in this shit hole forever. Both of you are just simply being kept in this holding cell until we make a good judgment on you." I state and cross my arms over my chest.
Greyson raises his eyebrow and looks me up and down, "And who might you be."
I roll my eyes, "I think the proper thing to do is to introduce yourself before asking someone else for their name."
He smirks and pushes himself off the wall, "Clever." He states and I struggle not to smile from his compliment, "fine I suppose I will tell you. My name is Greyson and my friend over there is Leonardo, but I like to just call him Leo."
I laugh, "Cute, I love nicknames. Does that mean I get to call you Grey?"
He huffs and walks up to the bars on the cell door and grabs them with his hands as he leans against it.
"You're funny, but no. The names Greyson and it's staying that way." He nods his head in my direction, "Now what's your name?"
"My name is Lucia." I answer.
"Eh," he says with a shrug. "I was expecting better."
My mouth drops open in shock as he turns to look at me. He smirks and lets out a small laugh.
"I was kidding. It's nice." He says, I quickly compose myself and turn my face away as a light blush forms on my cheeks, "Now when the hell are we going to get out of this shit hole?" he asks.
I shrug, "Who knows. It could be hours, days or even months. It all depends on what the Alpha decides. For all we know, you guys could be our next meal."
Leo hops up from the bed and hurries over to the door with worried eyes.
"You're meal? You guys are cannibals?" He asks worriedly.
"Sometimes. Desperate time calls for desperate measures but all rogues know that." I say and turn my head to the side questioningly. "How long did you guys say you have been rogues for again?"
"We uh-" Leo starts to say but Greyson interrupts him by slapping him in the back of the head.
"Shut up numbskull, can't you tell she is playing with us." He states.
I giggle, "Damn, you caught me."
"Are you going to let us out of here or what?" Greyson asks and leans against the bars.
I give him a strange look, "What makes you think I have that kind of authority?"
"I don't know what kind of authority you have around here, but those keys in your hand tell me that you are letting us out. So let's get a move on, shall we?" He asks.
Damn! Maybe these two actually have what it takes to be in our squad. Well atleast Greyson is showing some skills. He is good at catching lies, he appears to be clever, and he noticed the keys I have wrapped in my fist. He won't be so hard to train, but the other one might take a bit of work. Either way, I owe them so I suppose I will train them for a bit.
"Okay, you win." I walk up to the cell gate and unlock the door.
As I creek it open, the metal scrapes against the cold cement and screeches through my ears. I cringe a little and take a step back.
"Time for your tour."
