Cruel Intentions
I yawn loudly and roll myself around on the soft bed. My skin touches the warmth of another body, and my wolf purrs in delight. I smile and nuzzle myself into it. Arms wrap around me and pull me closer to the warmth, where I feel safe.
I slink my arms around Greyson's broad chest and snuggle my head into his muscles. His scent wraps around me, comforting me. The soothing aroma makes me purr in delight. I could honestly stay here forever in his arms.
I feel lips press gently against my head, followed by a deep groggy voice, "Good morning beautiful."
"Good morning handsome," I quickly follow his lead and place a small peck on his chest. "Yesterday tired me out."
"I bet. Sorry about introducing you to so many people."
"I've already forgotten half their names," I admit sheepishly.
He laughs, it rumbles in his chest and I can feel it throughout my body. "I assumed that would happen. I don't expect you to remember them all right away, just the important ones matter for now."
"You mean, people like your Alpha parents and Leo's Beta parents? That was intimidating as fuck."
A small humorless chuckle escapes his lips, "yeah... sorry about that."
"A warning would've been nice." I tell him, softening my tone of voice. I really don't want to argue with him. It's nice to finally be in his arms.
"I know, I'm sorry. Do you forgive me?"
"We'll see. Just no more lying." I warn him.
"I already told you there would be no more lying. Do you have any questions that you want answered right now?"
I laugh half-halfheartedly, "I have so many questions it's ridiculous."
He reaches his one arm up and starts stroking my hair gently. It's soothing and very relaxing. My wolf nuzzles in, completely content. "I can answer some now, if that'll help the confusion you're certainly going through from all the trouble I've caused you."
I ponder the idea for a little while. What do I want to know right now? Let's go over the things I've uncovered. So far, I learned that Greyson and Leo are clearly not rogues. They came into my old pack already having a pack of their own. Yet, Greyson did say he left due to problems with his family. I'm also concerned that was the truth. If it is the truth, I need to stop letting myself get close to his parents. I can't get comfortable with the possible idea of staying here.
"Do you actually have problems with your family? When you first entered the other pack, you said your reasons for leaving were due to family struggles. Was that just a cover up?"
"It was and it wasn't." He sighs, "hope your ready for my life story," he laughs. I tilt my head to the side curiously to listen intently to what he has to say next, "my Dad and I have always struggled to fully understand one another. When I was really young, I just wanted to disobey him. He never let me do anything fun and honestly I was forced to do a lot of growing up real early. I resented him for that, you know, every kid needs time to be a kid. I never really got that. Now, I understand he was looking out for what's best for me and what's best for the pack. Someday, I'm going to have to take over this place, and I definitely wouldn't be prepared if my Dad hadn't started training me early on... Right before I came to your pack, my Dad and I got in a little quarrel. He didn't think I was ready to take on any responsibilities for the pack. I wanted to prove him wrong. I knew that we've been aiming to find out more inside information on your pack, so I set off on my own. Leo followed me on his own accord. I didn't even tell him I was leaving but he knew me too well. Needless to say my Dad was pissed at me, but I don't regret a minute of it. I got to meet you after all."
My body betrays my mind by being elated from his words. Butterflies jolt around in my stomach, but my mouth frowns. "So you penetrated my home, putting my whole squad in danger? You were planning on attacking my pack the whole time?"
My mind races back to when the hunter's attacked our home. So many wolves were killed at that time, including my mom. How many helpless wolves got killed when Greyson's pack attacked? What if that's the cause of another child's mom dying?
"no, Lucia that wasn't-"
"My Mom was there when you first came to the pack. What if you called the ambush then? Your pack could've been the one to kill her..." My heart thump nervously in my chest. Nausea builds up in my stomach. My throat hitches. I try to push away from him but I'm still locked in his arms.
"Lucia!" Greyson speaks loudly. I ignore him and try to pull away. He takes a deep breath and growls my name again, less loudly but it shakes my body to the core. "Lucia." My wolf immediately submits and my body stops dead in it's tracks.
A moment passes before I realize what just happened.
"Did you just use your Alpha tone with me?" I growl and look up at him angrily as my wolf comes back from the shock.
"Lucia, you wouldn't calm down and listen to me. We're trying to have a mature conversation. Don't immediately jump to the conclusion that my main purpose of coming to your pack was to attack it. Not everyone has cruel intentions." He tells me sternly.
I've always reacted irrationally based on my emotions. Honestly, Greyson is right that I should calm down and think before I do something stupid, but my pride is being a little stubborn right now. "Two things," I growl at him, "One, I've never met a person who didn't have some type of cruel intention at some point in their life. I don't trust easily, and there's very good reason for it. It's what's kept me alive for so long." He looks down at me, stunned for a moment. I untangle my arms from him and push away from him. "Two, if you ever, and I mean ever, use your Alpha tone with me again, I will be out of here in an instant. If I'm not acting the way you want me to, then that's just the way it is. You can't control me all the time, and I don't expect to control you all the time either."
I slide off the bed. I stand and walk over to the wardrobe that's in Greyson's room. That's where I placed all the clothes that Sienna lent me. I grab a pair of dark jeans and slip them on over my bear legs. I toss off Greyson's large t-shirt that I was wearing to bed, put on a bra and a light blue shirt.
"Lucia, I'm sorry about using my Alpha tone with you." Greyson says from the bed. I hear him shifting and sitting up.
"And?"
"And I'll never do it again."
"And?"
"I understand why you feel that way about people, but you need to understand that it hurts the most when you, out of all people, don't trust me. You're my mate. If you don't listen to me and understand my feelings, then who will?"
My wolf pouts at me. She's clearly already forgiven him. I sigh, because he is right. I have these feeling about others for good reason. Even my closest friends have done some terrible things, heck even I have. Greyson and Leo have lied to me since they met me. Rina's been working with the Alpha in the dungeons since she's been young. Even though she didn't necessarily intentionally hurt anyone, she been erasing memories of people's loved ones. Me, Derek, Ruben, and Raymond have been stealing and killing for survival since as early as I can remember. There's not a single pure soul in this world, and even the tiniest bit of darkness in a person can cause huge destruction.
"Alright, I guess I understand that. I felt that pain when you wouldn't even look at me after Damien and I got announced as mates. I guess, even subconsciously I knew we were true mates, and not having you hear me out hurt me more than anything." I turn to him. "I'm sorry for that."
He stares up at me with his emerald eyes. I could get lost in them if I stared long enough.
"Thank you," he says, "now will you hear me out?"
"I suppose," I tell him. Of course I will, but I don't want to sound so willing after we just argued.
"My intention of joining your pack was not to attack it. You see, for the past few years, people in our pack have been disappearing when they go to spy on your pack. Honestly, we've been hearing from other packs as well that many of their members are disappearing. Yet, we know they're still alive. Many of the missing person's have bonded mates, and those mates can still feel that their partners are alive and well. I went to see if I could find them anywhere on the premise. Whatever free time I had at the pack, I was searching. Yet, I found nothing. You guys have dungeons, but I wasn't able to go down there... I fear they're all trapped."
"That's not possible." I tell him quickly.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, yeah we have two dungeons, but neither of them can house too many people. It seems as though you guys lost a lot of men, but to be honest, I have no clue where they could be..."
"So, if they're not in the dungeon, and they're not in the rest of the pack house... where could they be?"
My hand slips up to my chin to ponder the thought. "I have no idea..."
"And now the pack is moving, so we're going to be even further from the truth..." He sighs and leans his head back on the wall behind the bed.
"What if, we go back then?" I ask. It's the first thing that popped into my head so I just said it.
"No way in hell. Not with Damien there and not with a baby on the way." He scolds my reply.
I sigh, "yeah I suppose you're right. I finally got away from that hell hole so I certainly don't want to go back. Yet I do miss my squad. I wonder how they're doing?"
"They're definitely fine. If anything they're worried about you."
"No," I tell him. "I let them know I was leaving for good. Actually Rina and I were already planning on leaving before you guys even showed up to reck our celebration of my pregnancy." I laugh awkwardly.
"Really?"
"Yeah, we were planning on going to find you and Leo but it looks like you guys found us first."
"Lucky that we did, we might've never found each other if you went searching for me. You and Rina wouldn't have know to go look in a near by pack for us."
"So true," I tell him as there's an instantaneous knock on the door.
I raise a curious eyebrow as Greyson stands from his bed. "One minute," he shouts then turns to me and motions his eyes towards his t-shirt I just took off and left on the ground.
I pick it up and toss it over to my half-naked mate. He throws it on over his head, hiding his wonderful muscles. I internally sigh, but on the bright side, I can see those muscles whenever I want now, being free from Damien and that pack is really going to help mine and Greyson's relationship.
Greyson goes to the door, turns the knob and opens it wide. To my surprise it's Greyson's Mom, Sienna.
"Mom?" Greyson asks. Clearly neither of us were expecting her.
"Good morning you two!" Sienna says excitedly. "Sorry if I interrupted anything..."
"You didn't," I reassure her.
"Phew!" She sighs in relief.
"So what brings you here?" Greyson questions her. "How can I help you?"
"Well actually," Sienna says. "I came here to see Lucia, not you."
I laugh as Greyson rolls his eyes. He's definitely not used to his mom coming to him but not actually wanting his attention. I start walking towards the door.
"How can I help?" I ask.
"Well it's not really you helping, you see. I was talking to the pack doctor yesterday. Her name is Dr. Zoe. We were actually discussing your position, and you being pregnant and all, and she asked me a question I hadn't really thought about. She wanted to know if you've had a check up with the baby?"
My eyes widen in surprise. That's a thing? I'm supposed to have a check up with the baby? "Uh, no, I suppose I haven't yet."
"Well then this works out perfect! She actually had someone cancel an appointment with her today and she said if you want it, it's yours, free of charge of course."
"Free?" I question. Is anything really ever free.
"Yes! Any werewolf in our pack gets free service from Dr. Zoe. Since she is the only werewolf doctor around. The appointment is actually in an hour, so we might as well get some breakfast and head on over if you're interested?" Sienna wonders.
I turn to Greyson. He gives me a nod of approval. Trusting his judgement, I turn back to Sienna. "Sure, let's do it."
"Perfect," She turns to Greyson, "Looks like I will be borrowing your mate for a while if you don't mind."
He laughs, "Sure, just make sure you return her to me."
"Of course!" She laughs, turns on her heels and walks down the hall. "Come on Lucia!" She calls.
I jog to the door, but before I can exit, a hand shoots out and grabs my arm, stopping me in my tracks. I turn my head upward to see Greyson smiling down at me.
"Don't think you can escape with out saying goodbye." He comments.
I roll my eyes at his cheesy line, but smile. "I wouldn't dare." I reach up on my tip toes and give my mate a peck on the lips. "See yah later," I whisper to him.
He smirks, pulls me in tighter and snatches my lips again. A fire erupts between us and I lace my arms around his neck. He deepens the kiss for only a moment then pulls away. I pout and land back on flat feet.
"Now that's a proper goodbye. See you later Lucia. Good luck with the doctors."
With my cheeks stained red, I try to gather my courage and pretend I'm not embarrassed. I cough to cover my emotions. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. See yah later Greyson."
I turn and walk out the door.
"I love you," he says quickly.
My cheeks blaze red. I keep my back to him as I quickly reply, "love you too."
