Chapter 7
Mikael opened his eyes as the clock pealed incessantly. He groaned, slapping wildly around until the noise, stopped. Slowly, he sat up, rubbing his eyes blearily.
His room was just as he left, but even if he was robbed he wouldn't be able to tell, he was too tired. He looked over the night stand where the alarm was seated and grabbed his phone, waking it up. He had four messages.
Clint: Great show last night. The next gig is in two weeks. See you at the studio later.
That's right. The concert. He struggled to remember, but only bits and pieces of the night flew through his mind. It was unbelievable – that's for sure. Hopefully, he'll remember more as the day goes on.
After the successful front act at during the Under Prescription concert, they were invited to two more concerts after a couple of weeks.
He scrolled down, deciding he'll answer Clint's message later.
Johnson: I had a good time guys! It was batshit crazy!
"Good time doesn't even begin to cover it," Mikael murmured to himself. He continued to scroll down.
Agata: Where the fuck are you? We have an exam today!
Holy Shit!
Mikael jumped off the bed almost tripping. He took a quick shower and grabbed his bag and jacket after putting on his uniform.
The school was just around the corner, he sprinted anyway.
On the way to school, he noticed a red Ferrari at a red light. He was marveling at the beauty of the car until he saw the gorgeous face of the girl at the passenger side. He recognized the girl right away with her jet black, long and straight hair and piercing blue eyes.
Rogue?
The traffic light turned green and the Ferrari drove away.
Shit! He snarled under his breath and took off running as fast as he could.
"R-Rogue! Rogue!" Mikael yelled, running after the car while waving his hands. "Rogue, wait!"
The car zoomed inside the University and Mikael had to stop to catch his breath. He leaned against the lamppost nearest him. He put his hands on his knees using the pole to help himself upright. He then looked up letting the cool wind blow his sweat-soaked hair.
Eight fifteen, he arrived at the school fifteen minutes earlier than expected. He then pulled his gaze away to look around. He soon realized that he wasn't far from their room. He would need to get going soon if he didn't want to be late.
He let his head droop down, still catching his breath, and stayed there for a moment. He then straightened himself up, trying to shake off the tenseness he felt in his muscles.
He walked nonchalantly toward their room and met the scrutinizing look of his twin sister.
"What?" He asked as he took his seat.
"You look...pale-ish. Are you okay?" Agata asked.
"Yeah," he shrugged.
"You looked like you've run a marathon," she remarked.
"Ferrero." The professor called.
"Here!" Mikael and Agata answered in unison.
"Agata pay attention, I'm doing a roll call on the boys."
"Ooops." Agata let out a shy smile. "Sorry."
Soon, the lights dimmed for the presentation.
"I thought we have an exam?" he whispered to Agata.
Agata just rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"These lectures are horrible," Mikael said loudly before slouching into his seat.
The person next to him went, "Shhh!"
"Sorry," Mikael mouthed. Still slouching low in his seat.
Instead of writing important information on the lecture notes, Mikael was scribbling haiku poems and turning it into song lyrics.
At the end of the lecture, Mikael still doesn't know what was happening. His head still down, tapping the pen on his notes, as if putting some tune on the poem. The rhythm almost strikes him until Agata yelled loudly on his ears.
"What the fu—" Mikael held his hand over his ear.
"The lecture is over." Agata glared at him.
"Oh, great." Mikael stretched and they both stepped out of the classroom.
"Are you still recovering from hangover?" Agata asked as they walked down the corridor.
"That's a cruel assumption, but a right one," he said nonchalantly. "I'm on my way to have full History now. See you around sister." Mikael headed toward the History building, taking long strides.
"That was very irresponsible of you," Agata said in loud voice.
Mikael turned his back and looked at Agata. "The band had a great show last night, you know, we kind of wanted to celebrate it."
Agata cut her eyes on him.
He dropped his shoulders in defeat and walked slowly toward his sister.
"Don't you care about your scholarship? Don't you care about Mom and Dad? You're wastin—."
"Fine, fine." Mikael held his hands up in surrender. "That's why I'm going to the History class now. I'm not ski...pping...clas..ses..."
Mikael just saw the red Ferrari drove past them with Rogue on the passenger side.
"I gotta go." Mikael ran after the car.
"What the?" Agata was left clueless at her twin brother's reaction.
Again, he ran at full sprint.
He raced through crowds, ignoring the people that had to step aside to allow him pass.
He got to see Rogue.
Mikael spotted the car in the distance. He stopped for a second and grabbed the book from his backpack.
"I have an excuse to see you," he muttered, and he broke into a run again.
He hopped high and turned mid-air when a dog suddenly crossed. He was taken aback and fought to regain his balance. "This girl is going to be the death of me."
He ran faster, even when he came to a crossing on the road, he didn't stop.
Thankfully the car wasn't running at high speed.
The traffic lights turned red. Mikael almost caught up with the car, he waved with the book in his hand. As he came closer, it became apparent that Rogue did not see him.
The next set of lights glimmered. Green again.
"Stop the car, dang it!"
This time it was an intersection and other tires screeched as it zoomed past him. The Ferrari picked up more speed.
Shit!
Mikael let out a breath and ran as fast as he could and then tried to get to the front as quickly as possible to stop the car.
Mikael closed his eyes, knowing that either way, if he gets ran over or if the speeding driver stops.
The driver would have had no chance to stop if it was running at full speed. The car stopped with a screech, he was almost hit!
Mikael's arms were extended in front of him. He was trembling at the thought of what had just happened.
Rogue and the driver got out of the car and approached him like a wounded animal.
"Son, are you okay?" asked the driver.
Mikael stood in shock, his palms still on the front of the now stopped vehicle.
"Am I in Heaven?" Mikael asked, clearly dumbfounded.
Rogue huffed. "Are you trying to kill yourself?"
Traffic had completely stopped. People were getting out of the car to see what happened.
"Apparently, people jumping in front of cars and feigning injuries for money is a thing," an elderly guy voiced out loud and shook his head before he slid himself back to his car.
People gathered around them; rose hum of comments and murmurs of speculation.
"Guys, guys, I'm okay. The car didn't hit me and I'm not trying to get fast money, okay?" Mikael announced to the crowd.
The onlookers went back to their cars and the traffic went back to motion.
"Why did you throw yourself in front of the car? Ae you trying to commit suicide," the driver asked.
"No, I'm not. I just want to give something to back her." Mikael explained, looking at Rogue.
"You jumped in front of the car just to give something back to me? Are you insane?" Rogue asked, flabbergasted.
"Maybe." Mikael nodded and showed her the book.
"This is my book." Rogue took the book and looked at him. "Wait a minute..." She finally recognized him. "You?"
"Yeah, it's me, Mikael."
They stared at each other. Both had completely forgotten their surroundings until a honk pulled them back to earth.
"Ms. Rogue, I'll just pull the car over to not cause further traffic," the driver told Rogue.
She nodded, pulling away her gaze from Mikael.
"Are you stupid or you have a death wish?" Rogue asked, annoyed.
Mikael chuckled. "Neither."
"Then why did you do to that?"
They were still standing in the middle of the road.
"I—" Another honk and they almost jumped. "I think we better move to the sidewalk."
"I think so." Rogue marched toward the sidewalk leaving Mikael smiling like a loon.
