"I just mind linked them, Colt, Decker, and Jacob are meeting us in the meeting room," Destiny states as we walk into the packhouse. I notice her eyes go to my now closed wound before looking back straight ahead. Instinctively my hand goes to my stomach. The perks of already being partially dead, my body is literally a corpse, the only thing keeping it going is my soul. The witches told me the only way for me to 'die' is decapitation, or when my soul is ready to leave this body.
"Evergreen, is that you?" I cringe at the voice of her, Hailey Rosewell. The girl that bullied me all my pack years. I turn as does Destiny as she studies the girl in front of us. Hailey has her brown hair up in a tight ponytail; she smirks, making her dark blue eyes seem to twinkle in excitement. Her cheeks were the only thing that had baby face features; they were slightly chubby. Her nose had artificial freckles, and her eyebrows slightly darker than what I remember.
"Didn't you have blonde hair?" Hailey tilts her head as she extends her hand all the way to touch my hair, Destiny's eyes widen at Hailey's power. Hailey pulls on my hair slightly before letting it go and bringing her hand back to her side. "I can't believe you came back, don't tell me you are trying to win your mate over." At her words, I glare at her while Destiny looks even more confused and shocked. The thought of being with Jacob made my skin crawl.
"Go away, Hailey." I didn't come back to deal with her or Jacob, I didn't want to speak to her, so instead of waiting on her response, I turn to walk away.
"He doesn't want a pathetic, wolfless bitch like you, Sin," My eyes widen slightly, so I guess everyone knew of what has happened, or at least the big things. Curiosity toys with my thoughts as the stupid old question haunts me. It immediately shows its ugly, pathetic self without my permission.
Do they think I am worthy now, secretly?
Hailey's words showed she still hated me, but is it because I am Jacob's mate and not her? I look back at Hailey; I can't seem to identify any emotion that resembles jealousy. Though disgust fills me at the thought of her being jealous that I am Jacob's mate. The idea of being his mate sickens me; she could have Jacob. If Decker is truly my mate, I will choose him a thousand times over Jacob.
"Wolfless, and yet she could still kick your ass." Destiny growls out, causing my eyes to widen and my jaw to drop.
This woman, who has insulted me at almost every turn, has just defended me. I look to Hailey to see she is also looking shocked, though she quickly recovers as she glares at Destiny.
"Be careful with your next words, Hailey; this is the king's sister you're speaking to," I advise causing Hailey's jaw to drop. I Look at Destiny, "Let's go; we have more important things that actually deserve our attention." Destiny nods, and I don't spare a glance at Hailey as we turn and walk down the hall.
A moment of silence passes us, and I can feel Destiny brewing the small amounts of information she has obtained.
"So I never actually took into consideration and asked why you were a rogue," Destiny whispers, and I hear a bit of guilt in her tone. I sigh at her words and shrug.
"I wouldn't have told you anyway. but long story short, my mate rejected me and banished me when I was sixteen." I say with a shrug; I avoid looking at Destiny, I had enough pitiful stares to last me a lifetime.
"Well I still don't like you, I don't understand how you and Decker have a mate bond when his mate is dead. I don't trust you, but I do have more respect for you." I turn to look at Destiny, shocked at her words, and I see the profound respect she had for me, though there was still a layer of distrust keeping her from accepting me fully.
I smile lightly, " Well, the distrust is mutual, I don't understand how we have a mate bond either." I shrug as we make it to the office door; without hesitation, I grab the doorknob and push it open and walk in, I notice Destiny roll her eyes at my actions. Jacob, Decker, and Colt look my way as we walk in.
"Find anything?" Colt lazily asks as he crosses his arm, he lounges back in a dark red accent chair.
"Yeah, but you won't believe us."
"I look like a werewolf, and a poodle got busy," I say, causing Destiny to throw me yet another glare.
They look at us in utter confusion.
"We were attacked by a curly wolf." Destiny clarifies as she rolls her eyes.
"And we aren't talking about your average werewolf either; this is human folklore, Werewolf," I explain as I shake my head.
"You mean like a Lycan?" Colt asks as he tilts his head and sits up slightly.
"Yup," I say, popping the 'p.' "It stood on its hind legs and was at least seven feet. Though its fur was extremely curly, but it had wolf features."
"Lycans don't exist; they are only legends," Jacob pointedly says as he looks at Destiny and I as if we imagined it.
I narrow my eyes at him, "Well, you weren't there, Destiny and I saw it, it attacked us." I pointedly say as I put a hand on my hip. The nerve of Jacob, he asked for our help but didn't believe me. Jacob's eyes widen at my words.
"I didn't mean it like that; I'm just saying they don't exist." Jacob uses his words gently as if he is trying to heal whatever wound he created with his previous words.
I roll my eyes, "So why do you think it came back?" Colt wonders out loud, I look to Decker realizing he hasn't said much since I came in.
My eyes widen slightly as I notice he is looking at me, staring very intently. I blush and try not to smile. I look away quickly not wanting to get lost in his gaze.
"Well Destiny is a princess and it's seemingly attacking she-wolves of a status." I pitch the idea and they take it in with a nod.
"Yes, well I will call some packs and see if they have had any similar sightings," Jacob states as Decker and Colt stand.
"I will call the kingdoms and see if they are having any disappearances and if they have eve heard of this lycan thing." Decker states as Cole and him walk to the office door. Destiny looks to me as she stands.
"I'm am going to talk to a witch at the castle, see if she has heard about one," I raise a brow at her words.
"You have a witch?"
"Well, she is on the council, Kaitlyn, she is is technically a hybrid of a wolf and power human but was raised by witches. She was visiting the witches when you were at the castle." Destiny explains and I nod slowly, we normally didn't have witches on the council, it was mostly power humans and wolves. I sigh as she walks out and I start walking after her, but I am grabbed and turned sharply and as the door closes lips land on mind.
The tingles spread through my body and skin, disgustingly so, my body reacts as I automatically kiss back for a moment. After that moment passes I quickly step back from Jacob's embrace and raise my hand and backhand him. He looks at me, eyes filled with lust.
"God you are so delicious," Jacob huskily whispers as he grabs me again and pulls me to him. I growl out in annoyance. My body both wanted him and wanted to kill him. Part of me wanted to give in but the other, much larger part of me wanted Decker.
Decker.
With the thought of Decker, I push Jacob away again and step back. "What the hell?" I growl out at Jacob.
Jacob looks at me with a hopeful smile, "My love, I want you, I want you as my mate, as my Luna," My eyes widen at his confession. Jacob grabs my hands and I can't seem to move.
The heartache seems to overtake my anger, for a moment, my eyes well up and tears slide down my cheeks silently. The feelings of heartache, betrayal, and rejection break through the box at his words, I curse myself, I have spent years drowning those feeling, and a couple words from Jacob revives them in a second.
Jacob brings me closer as he cups my cheek, his thumb rubs my skin gently, but I don't lean into him, all I can do is stare up into his eyes, as tears slide down my cheeks. Jacob gives me a nervous smile, " Goddess I hope those are happy tears."
I bite my lip lightly as I look at Jacob, the things I could say, the things I wanted to say. I couldn't begin to find in what order, or what way to say them, and for the first time, I opened the cell I had put my heart in a long time ago, and I let her do the talking as I open my mouth. "I'll never forget the first day I saw you," I begin, " You sat by me in English, in eight grade, you had just got back from boarding school for young Alphas I thought you were so amazing, " I whisper as I lick my lips, Jacob looks down at the action. "I remember when I heard your voice for the first time, how it instantly melted my heart, I remember always trying to find the nerve to talk to you, for two years, I idolized you, I slowly fell in love with everything about you. I'll never forget falling in love with you." I state as my lip trembles slightly. "but," I start as I search Jacob's eyes, fear seems to cloud them at the word, the simple word that was more destructive than any other word in the dictionary.
"I also will never forget the way you tore me apart, the way you turned on me, but didn't even know me. I'll never forget the feeling of my mate slapping me." I spit as I take a step back from him, Jacobs face falls. "I will never forget begging you to love me."
"I will never forget waking up every day after, still fucking wanting you so badly that my bones shook so much they felt like they could break. I'll never forget waiting for you to lift the ban and call to me, and beg me back." Jacob shakes his head at my words. " I will never forget that I lost my wolf because of you, I lost my heartbeat and the feeling of breathing because of you."
"I'm so so sorry." I clench my teeth at his words. Anger takes hold of my heart as I narrow my eyes at Jacob's cheap words.
"You are sorry?" I ask dryly as I shake my head. " I will never forgive you or myself because I gave you the power to fuck me up so bad." I growl out as my tears rush out angrily now. I wipe my face frustrated at the sign of weakness on my part.
"Please, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you," Jacob explains, I smirk as I step to Jacob and give him a look of malicious pity.
"Aww Jacob, it looks like you need to learn the lesson I had to learn," I coo as I tilt my head slightly, "Do not beg for what does not want to stay."
With that, I turn and leave a desperate and lonely Alpha.
