Chapter 6: When Fear Strikes

Rocky Gone Rogue

Hey guys, Charisma here! I am sooooooo happy you guys reviewed both this story and Ulysses' Lyrical! Literally ecstatic! Wanted to thank LightningPelt again for his helpful and hilarious review. Really put a smile on my face (BTW, Eleftherios speaks Greek, not German, although he can speak German...he's extremely bilingual, but he mostly just speaks English and Greek.) I finally got around to writing my VERY short profile page: I'm not interesting, I'll tell you that much. Anyways, here's chapter 6, hope you guys enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own PAW Patrol, or the song by the Piano Guys. I also don't own the Piano Guys.

Chapter 6: When Fear Strikes

Rocky and Eleftherios had been walking all morning, but had finally reached the downtown area of Chattilan. As they rounded yet another street corner, their happy faces beaming with joy at the sight of the sign down the street that read, "Chattilan Flower Shop" their composure could no longer be kept, and they burst out running, Eleftherios shouting to Rocky, "Synagonisteíte! Race ya!" "Oh, you're on!" yelled Rocky over the sound of the wind rushing past his ears as he sped away alongside his white werepuppy ami. The shop got closer and closer in their sights.

But as they neared, Rocky remembered something and yelled, "Wait, Eleftherios, STOP!" " Eleftherios slowed down, looking back in disappointment. "Giatí? I was about to beat you!" But then he saw the serious concentration and worry slowly looming over Rocky's features. "W-what's wrong? Was it something I did?" He said, stressed that he had just done something to hurt or offend his friend. "You didn't do anything, Elef." said Rocky, who surprised Eleftherios with the new nickname. "Elef? I....I think I kinda like that nickname. Yeah! Elef!" He thought excitedly. He and Rocky had become such good friends, that Rocky had given him a nickname! This was great! Rocky continued talking, interrupting his thoughts. "It's just......what if the store manager is in there? If she saw us, she'd probably call the pound or animal control!" He gasped. "Eleftherios, we can't go in there! We need to find a way to get the store manager out of the building so we can safely and secretly look for a sunflower." Although this dampened Eleftherios' excitement greatly, he knew Rocky was right. "But we were so close!" he thought, and said to Rocky, "Ok, so how do we do that?" he said with a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Hmmm......" thought Rocky out loud, as Eleftherios' attention was starting to shift to a butterfly fluttering overhead. "Oh! Maybe we could make a distraction in the alley nearby, and while she is investigating, we run inside, check for sunflowers, and get as as quickly as possible." Eleftherios had been listening, but not really hearing as he playfully jumped around, trying to catch the butterfly in his mouth, but always missing. "Elef, did you even hear what I just said?" "Wha...Oh, um yeah Rocky! I was listening!" he said, looking at Rocky as he spoke, but his eyes began to drift to the butterfly again. "Rrriiiiiiiiggghhtt." said Rocky, exasperated that his friend's mindset had been switched and distracted so easily. "Alright, I'm going to explain this again, so listen this time. We need to make-"

The mixed breed was cut short by a commotion from inside the flower shop, followed by the frantic "I'm coming! Hang on darling!" As a young woman ran outside of the store, not taking any notice of the very strange looking pups hanging around outside her store. She hopped inside a blue sedan and sped away, leaving the two werepups very confused, but happy that she had left nonetheless. "Quick, let's go!" said Rocky as he and his companion ran into the shop, scanning every shelf in every aisle for a sunflower. "Where are they Where are the sunflowers?" Eleftherios yelled in a panic, looking every which way for the golden flowers. "Just keep looking!" yelled Rocky back, as he scrounged around the next aisle over. One thought replayed in his mind over and over: "What if there are none?"

The Previous Night (Same night as the one in the first chapter)

Jax was exhausted after having to care for a whole family of abandoned hamsters, probably consisting of around thirty little rodents, their tiny selves scurrying around the area of the alley his mother used as an abandoned animal clinic. He and his mom, who blended in very well with the dark atmosphere of the alleyway with their shiny black fur coats, ran the animal clinic, helping pets whose owners no longer wanted them, or who had left them for dead. But the day was over, and Jax was ready for a very relaxing cat nap, then he was going to watch the baseball playoffs at the park, and then sleep for the night. But first, he needed a snack. He and his mother, who were now the only one's running the clinic as of now because of the late passing of Jax's father Piccolo, charged a meagre wage for their services: food. More often than not, the flower shop lady shooed them out, and as that was almost the only source of obtainable food in downtown Chattilan, they had to rely on their combined knowledge of medicines and treatment. Anyways, Jax was tired, but he felt reeeaally hungry. He probably hadn't eaten anything all day, and felt like meat would satisfy his needs. "Maybe I could stop by the duck pond and catch a fish, or maybe even a duck itself!" He said to himself, licking his chops and smiling. This was going to be fun.

Two hours later, he hadn't caught anything. He had effectively given up, and now just sat at the edge of the pond, gazing up at the stars. "If you can hear me Dad, I'm sorry that I couldn't save you." A tear fell from his eyes as he looked down in sadness and shame, and silently mourned his father's passing. 'I have to survive; for you, Dad." He prayed in his thoughts as he gazed at the waters. As he opened his eyes, he saw a small speckled trout swimming close by. He eyed it carefully, calculating when to strike. The trout turned around, and instantly Jax was upon it, half expecting it to be in his paws, but, again, the fish swam away. "Darn, I suck at fishing." He cursed as he got up after having thrown himself at the fish. He sat up dejectedly in the ater, looking at the moon's reflection as his gut churned. "Probably just hungry after having spent two hours trying to catch a fish and ending up with nothing." He sighed, but then the churning turned into a huge amount of pain. He groaned and clutched his stomach. "I must be really hungry to have these kinds of cramps." He thought as he slowly began to walk back home, each step more agonizing then the first. He stopped and gasped, catching his breath while the pain continued. He didn't bother speaking; it hurt too much. His thoughts were consumed by the pain, that had now spread everywhere in his being. He looked down shakily at his slowly growing paws, the fur on them growing as well, till they were doubled in size. He noticed his fur was growing at an insane rate everywhere else on his body too, growing thicker and thicker until he felt heavy with fur. His two canine teeth grew till they were sticking out his mouth like a vampire, and he felt extremely dizzy. He passed out, the agony fading as his mind slipped away.

The Next Morning (Around Noon)

Jax awoke in the long grass feeling refreshed and almost strengthened. He got up slowly, looking at himself, bewildered at his striking appearance and the lack of pain he experienced. "What happened to me last night?" He wondered as he took in his larger size, his longer fur, and his huge paws, which actually ended up being triple their normal size. His ears, which he noticed were way more attuned now, picked up the sound of a lady across the street screaming "I'm coming! Hold on darling!" Then jumping into a car and driving away. "Wow, this is so cool!" he thought. "I can hear so much better now! I wonder why. One thing's for sure though: I am absolutely starving, probably more so than last night. I know that the flower shop lady is gone, so I might as well take some food from her food pantry." But as he looked over towards the flower shop, he noticed two large and very hairy pups hurrying inside. "What're they doing? Maybe they are sneaking food out too! I've got to get to it first!" And with his hunger egging him on, he ran over to the flower shop. As he neared the door, he heard one of the pup saying, "Where are they? Where are the sunflowers?" "Sunflowers??" thought Jax, who was now very confused at everything at this point, "Why would they need sunflowers?" He decided that it didn't matter, and crept inside, trying to sneak around the till and into the pantry area. But the two pups must have smelled him, because they sniffed the air for a sec, froze, and looked in his direction. "W-who's t-there?" one of the pups, who turned out to be completely white, and some type of collie, asked in a shaky voice. "Uhhhhh..........me?" said Jax wearily, his mind drawing a blank. "Who's 'me'?" The other pup, whom Jax guessed was some type of gray-coloured mixed-breed, barked demandingly. "Jax?" Jax said, scared now for his life, and worried what these two huge pups might want with him.

Rocky had no idea who Jax was, and couldn't even see him due to the fact that Jax was still cowering behind the till's counter, but didn't think that he was any kind of threat to them, so he decided to take a reassuring approach. Jax didn't know this, but Rocky was actually standing in the room over, the pantry, eating some popcorn while searching for a sunflower. He stopped looking for a minute and said "It's okay, Jax, we're not going to hurt you. We're just searching for a sunflower. Wanna help?" "No offense, but why would I help you guys. I just had a rather traumatic experience last night in the pond, and I just wanna go home. Just tell me what you guys are up to really in the lady's flower shop, and I'll be on my way." He said with faux confidence, hoping that it would work.

Eleftherios, being the more gullible and oblivious of the werepup duo, bought it. "We, ummm...... last night, we both turned into werepups. You don't have to believe us, that's okay. It happened last night when we were both in some form of water that reflected the full moon. I had been standing in my water dish outside, my feet were aching, and I transformed into......well, this." He said, blushing hard and his embarrassing explanation as he gestured towards his body.

Jax was beyond surprised. He had been standing in a body of water that reflected the full moon last night! He had transformed into a werepup, no, a wereCAT last night. His blue eyes roamed about his little area behind the counter, searching for a way to break the news of his new-found identity as a werecat. He just couldn't hide his nerves, and as Rocky leaned out of the pantry from the top shelf of the pantry to tell Eleftherios that there were no sunflowers there, Jax burst out from behind the till, and shouted in excitement, "Well, I'm a werecat then!"

Neither Eleftherios nor Rocky were expecting this, and it startled both of them. Eleftherios yelped and jumped back in surprise while looking at Jax and his similarities in the transformation that had affected them all the previous night. Rocky was startled even more, and as he had been leaning out of the pantry from the top shelf of the pantry, he had no good footing or balance and with a yelp and a scream, he fell to the floor, instantly knocking himself unconscious. Eleftherios was mortally terrified at this point, and Jax regretted what he had done as soon as he had done it. "ROCKY!" shrieked the collie as he ran bolted over to the werepup's side, shaking his head as he surveyed the blood oozing from his new friend's head. "No, No, NOOO! You can't die Rocky! You just can't!" Eleftherios was shaking in fear now, about to pass out from fright. But Jax's medical training kicked in. "Don't breathe so deeply. Slooooow breaths, ok buddy?" He calmly comforted Eleftherios, who just nodded. Jax then turned his attention to the mixed-breed, whom he had just learned was named Rocky. "Rocky! Can you hear me? Move if you can hear me?" He said, trying not to let the panic show in his voice, but received no response from the pup. While Eleftherios continued to gasp for air, trying to stop himself from hyperventilating, Jax checked Rocky's vitals, his wounds, and his overall condition. Rocky had a serious head injury, and was bleeding out of his mouth. He knew he shouldn't move a casualty if they had a suspected head or neck injury, but he also knew that if he didn't and ran all the way to the clinic to get his mom, Rocky would most likely die. He knew what he needed to do. Eleftherios' breathing had slowed to a safe rate at this point, and since Jax wasn't big enough to carry Rocky, he knew that the white collie had to if he wanted to save his ami. "Hey, buddy, can you help me? If we don't get Rocky to my family's clinic soon, he might die of brain damage or loss of blood, so I need you to help me by carrying him on your back while I lead the way to the alley. Can you do that for me?" "Nai nai nai! Let's go!" He said almost hysterically, putting Rocky on his back and carefully carrying him out of the shop and onto the street. "Then we've got no time to lose. Hurry!" cried Jax as he ran ahead of the white werepup, urging him to get moving.

Wildcat had just witnessed probably one of the most traumatic events of his life, and called Ryder as soon as he could about the incident. Ryder had the most amount of worry any of the pups had ever seen on his face as he heard the bad news. As the call ended, Ryder called the pups trailing behind him, the face of concern he wore instantly worrying the whole team. "Pups, Rocky's been seriously injured in a freak accident in Chattilan. We've got to hurry and get there as fast as possible. Me, Marshall and Chase will go on ahead; you pups assemble in the park as planned. Chase? Marshall? Let's go!" "Yes sir, Ryder sir!" Chase and Marshall barked as they and Ryder sped off to Chattilan ahead of the others. "I hope Wocky's ok. I'd hate to think anything weally bad would happen to my best fwiend." Thought Zuma worriedly as he silently cried tears of fear, the road ahead blurring as he watched Ryder and the two pups getting farther and farther away from him and the rest of the PAW Patrol. "Please don't die, Wocky."

A/N And that's the end of my longest chapter to date! And by far the most emotionally nerve-racking chapter for you readers. Again, I love hearing your reviews, and yes, an OC Back Story will be coming out for my new character, Jax the black cat. Hope you guys enjoyed, and remember to spread the chaos! Catcha later (Insert finger guns here). XD
