Test
Couple
She stood in front of the toilet, her hand shaking as she waited.
Raven wasn't ready, she was only 21. That was supposed to be a time of experimenting, not becoming a mother.
She wanted to be a superhero, not a mom. She was so young. Why hadn't they used protection? Why hadn't she been prepared?
Because they had been stupid. He had been having nightmares again, and needed reassurance. So she let him have her. It hadn't been their first time or anything, but each time was special.
Raven watched as the results came through. Positive.
She let a cry escape her throat as she choked on the realization. This was not what she wanted.
Of course, Raven couldn't get rid of the baby. That would be horrible. It was already inside her, growing.
Raven brushed off her clothes, standing up and staring in the mirror.
You're pregnant.
She gulped, letting out a shaky breath. Someone knocked on her bathroom door, but Raven instantly knew who it was.
"Rae? Are you okay in there?"
She dropped the stick to the ground, sliding down the wall. Her head was in her hands as she began to cry.
Nightwing heard her crying, and began knocking harder. She picked up the evidence, tucking the test under the sink, and using her energy to make the box disappear.
"Raven? Let me in."'
She tried to calm herself, her heart and head pounding. Nightwing dug in his belt for a pick locking device, and opened the door.
His girlfriend was on the floor, breathing heavily. He looked around, seeing nothing except for Raven.
He crouched down, seeing her red face. She had stopped crying, but it was apparent on her features that she was holding something in.
"Rae, what's wrong?"
She took a deep breath, wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her deep blue sweater.
"It's nothing."
He sighed, pulling her into a hug, trying to get her to open up.
"Rae, you were crying, it's not 'nothing'."
"It doesn't matter. I'm fine now."
Her boyfriend sighed, closing his eyes and rubbing her back. She was hiding something from him, something big.
"Rae?"
She held onto him, not ready for him to start questioning her. It wasn't like she had a choice when it came to telling him. She just didn't want to say anything at the moment.
"Yes?"
"You know you can trust me, and tell me anything, right?"
There it was. He was leading her into a trap.
"....Yeah?"
"Then could you please tell me what's going on?"
She swallowed the lump in her throat, feeling exposed and stripped of her barriers . He knew how to make her talk, and it bothered her, but it also relieved her that he cared.
But still, she didn't know how he would react. She knew he wouldn't leave her, in fact, he had told her he had wanted a child, but he wanted to wait a few years, when they were both mature enough. So, what would he say now that she was pregnant?
"I...."
She couldn't complete the sentence. The words wouldn't form on her tongue. It was too much.
He wanted nothing more than for her to tell him. He needed to know what was wrong, what had caused her to cry.
He squeezed her slightly, urging her to continue.
"Please, Raven, tell me."
The worry and concern radiating off of him pushed Raven over the edge, she had to tell him. He would find out eventually, anyway.
"Richard."
He pulled away, looking into her violet orbs that were full of fear and hope.
"What is it, Rachel?"
She looked away for a moment, tears building up in her eyes. It was now or never. She would skip around the word "pregnant". She couldn't bring herself to say it like that.
"You're going to be a father."
Nightwing's covered eyes widened, and he went completely still as her words registered in his brain. He was going to be a father. A dad. He was mostly excited, but a small part of him was scared.
He had barely had a father figure in his life. Bruce was like his father, but he was harsh and menacing. Nightwing didn't want to be that kind of parent.
What would Bruce think? He had always told him there was no room for a relationship as a hero, let alone a child. He would surely be pissed.
Raven watched him as he sat, frozen. Was he going to yell at her, ignore her? She bit her lip, trying not to burst into tears again.
Nightwing was overwhelmed with the news. He had to make sure it was true, he had tone positive.
"Are you....sure?"
Raven sighed, reaching under the sink cabinet to reveal the pregnancy test. The little red plus sign on it confirmed her statement.
He nodded, standing up and staring into the mirror in front of him. Raven picked herself up, placing the test on the counter, concerned as to what he was doing.
"I'm going to be a father...."
Raven fiddled with her hands, feeling awkward as she stood by him, her small frame shaking ever so slightly. She didn't know if he was mad, happy, scared, or confused. He was blocking her off from his emotions.
"Are you....mad?"
She asked, her voice small and scared for his answer. She loved him, and it would break her heart if he was angry because of this.
"Mad?"
He turned to face her, surprised by her question. In reply, he picked her up and wrapped her legs around his waist, taking her arms to place them around his neck. He tilted his head up, bringing his lips to hers for a few seconds.
He placed her on the counter, removing his mask and taking her hands in his own, smiling softly at her.
"Rae, why would I be mad? I'm going to be a father, we're going to be a family."
Raven couldn't help but smile back, her heart warming at his response. She hugged him tightly, his scent bringing her peace.
"Richard?"
"Mhm?"
"Thank you."
He raised a brow, not releasing his hold on her as he asked his question.
"For what?"
She breathed deeply before replying, enjoying the moment.
"For accepting me, for accepting this."
He chuckled lightly, pulling away and holding her shoulders.
"That's what people do when they love each other, and we both know I'm in love with you."
She kissed his cheek lightly, bringing him in for a hug once more.
"I know, that's why I love you."
