Stupid
Couple
"My instructions were simple, Robin. Don't go out there alone. And what do you do?"
He winced as she wrapped his knuckles with a roll of gauze, his face bored and reckless.
"Go out there alone." He mumbled, keeping his voice low.
He had gone out at night and found himself going after a few thugs. They had guns and knives, and there were 6 of them.
"Jesus, Robin. You're so stupid."
She pinched the bridge of her nose, her eyes closed for a moment as she thought about him.
"Why don't you just heal me?"
She rolled her eyes, picking up a band aid and sticking it on his forehead.
"If I heal the little injuries, your body might begin to depend on my powers, and it won't heal, or it will become weak."
Robin nodded, moving his hand carefully. He knew he had annoyed Raven with this, but he couldn't help it. He was born to fight.
"You need to stop this, Robin."
"Excuse me?"
He raised a brow at her, his eyes bare. He blinked a couple times for effect.
"You're going to get yourself killed. You're human, has that not crossed your mind?"
His jaw clenched and he stared into her eyes, his own showing bitterness and regret. He inhaled as he spoke to her, doing his best not to punch the wall.
"Yeah, it has. Thanks for reminding me."
Raven huffed, crossing her arms over her chest and stepping back, taking in his appearance with disappointed eyes.
"Don't do that, Robin."
He rolled his eyes, looking over to the wall.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Raven."
She was becoming impatient with him. His stubborn attitude would cost him.
"Stop acting like a child. This is the real world, you are a human who is very capable of dying."
"I'll stop acting like that when you stop with the mystery acts."
In a second she was in front of him, gripping his hair and making him look at her. Her face was wild and unamused.
"My actions aren't causing me to come home with injuries, dumbass."
Raven rarely swore, he knew that. She only did it when she was on the edge of snapping. Or when she was severely annoyed. He was sure it was a mix of both.
But he wasn't going to just take her abuse. Her hands gripped his hair tighter, her eyes deadly and swimming with anger.
"Really? Because I'm positive that last week you decided to pull a little disappearing trick and ended up in the infirmary."
He pushed her hand away, picking up a thing of gauze and wrapping his bicep haphazardly.
He heard something crack in the distance, probably the tv.
"You're starting to get on my nerves, Robin."
She tapped her foot on the ground, watching him warily while she said her mantra in her head.
"I don't know why you bother keeping your emotions in check. It's not like Trigon is gonna tear out of your body. He's gone."
"It's none of your damn business!"
She swung at him, stopped by his palm holding her fist, him not even looking up as he pulled the gauze tight with his teeth.
He spoke casually, raising a brow at her. His arm stinging with pain.
"See? No Trigon."
Raven cursed under her breath, pushing him and facing the window of his room.
She changed the subject back to him, refusing to go on about her emotions.
"Those guys had knives and guns, yet you wouldn't leave, which was so stupid of you."
He poured some rubbing alcohol on his shoulder, wincing, waiting for the pain to subside before deciding to speak.
"How was that stupid? I stood my ground and kicked ass."
Raven turned sharply, using her hands to express her emotions.
"You don't go against someone with a gun, especially not when they have back up. You could've called me or Cyborg to help."
Robin faced the door, not looking at Raven as she continued.
"I'm sure Bruce wouldn't like you to do this stuff."
His back stiffened and he spoke through gritted teeth.
"Shut up, Raven."
Raven sighed, keeping her distance but pressing on.
"He raised you better than that."
"Shut. Up. Raven."
"I'll shut up when you promise me you won't go out there again. At least not alone. No one wants to see you in an early grave, not me, not Bruce."
He was up and close to her now, allowing no space for her to flee. He looked down at her, eyes stormy, voice hard.
"This is my life. I'll fight whenever I want to, however many people there are. I don't care if it makes me stupid."
Raven squared up to him, clenching her fists at her sides.
"It also makes you selfish."
She squeezed passed him, her eyes set to the door. Robin stated where he was, staring out the window.
"How the hell is that selfish? I'm protecting the city, my friends."
Raven raised her vouce, anger and disappointment leaking into her words as she watched the door open.
"It's selfish of you to put yourself in such danger when you know it could emotionally and mentally damage the ones you love. That's how."
She walked through the door, a pile of paper flying off his desk as she did, her emotions affecting her powers.
Robin swallowed the newly formed lump in his throat, taking in her words.
She was most likely right, but he really didn't want to admit it.
He saw hi self as a strong individual, who would go out of his way to protect his city, his home.
Some dumb thugs wouldn't kill him, they weren't strong enough.
He continued staring out the window, slowly coming to the realization that every time he went out and returned with injuries, he was also injuring her. Mentally.
He let himself fall to the floor on his knees, feeling his heart drop.
"God, I really am stupid...."
