Shared Pain

Couple

She watched him limp into the kitchen, holding his left arm. She removed herself from the couch, walking after him.

Cyborg watched her go, knowing what she was going to do. She always did this when he came home hurt.

He admired his "little sister" for that. No matter what the consequences, she always healed him. Only Cyborg knew what would happen to Raven if she healed wounds.

She would take on that person's pain. Whether it be physical or mental. That's why Cyborg never let her heal him.

But she insisted on healing her boyfriend. Always. She felt obligated to. And Cyborg didn't understand why.

Raven placed her hands on his left arm, feeling her blue healing aura rise. He winced slightly, but relaxed as his arm began to heal. She did the same to his leg, feeling a slight pain in her own as she fixed the fracture.

When she was done, she looked up, seeing Cyborg raise a brow at her. She just blinked, looking back to Robin.

He wrapped his arms around her waist, his forehead touching her own.

"Hey."

He kissed her lightly, her slight smile making him chuckle.

He reached for her hand, holding it. Raven clenched her teeth, hoping he didn't notice. She wouldn't be able to heal the wounds she got from him until an hour or two.

He didn't seem to notice, for he had moved on to placing a soft kiss on her nose. Raven leaned up into him, ignoring the light pain in her shin.

She surrounded the two of them in her black bubble, teleporting them to his room. She found her spare pj's he had put in his room for her, and went into the bathroom to change.

When she came out, Robin was in his grey sweatpants and red t-shirt. He was laying in his bed, playing with his birdarang.

Raven crawled into the bed next to him, poking her finger at the weapon. He looked at her, putting it down on the dresser.

She placed her cheek on his chest, using a finger to play with his shirt.

"Raven?"

He spoke, his voice gruff. Raven looked up at him, her eyes confused.

"Hm?"

"What exactly happens to you when you heal someone? Does the pain go to someone else, or does it disappear completely?"

Raven was taken aback by his question. He had never asked anything like this. Never.

She still answered. Very vaguely though.

"The pain goes to someone else."

She said it with no emotion in her voice, and had her head downcast, to his shirt.

Robin nodded, reaching an arm under her and wrapping it around her waist. He continued his questions, still curious.

"Who does it go to?"

Raven stilled her fingers, looking up at him. She knew she had to tell him. It was either now or never.

She took a deep breath, speaking quietly.

"Me."

Robin stilled, his blue eyes wide under the mask.

"What?"

She sighed, speaking again,

"It goes to me, Robin. The pain, the wounds. But in a less urgent manner. I may be sore for a few hours, and then I can heal myself, and that's when it disappears. But first it comes to me."

Robin stared up at the ceiling, taking in the information.

"So, today, you took my pain as your own."

She nodded, sitting up.

"But it only hurts for a little bit."

She was trying to keep him from freaking out, and stopping her from ever healing anyone again.

Robin sighed, using a hand to grip hers lightly.

"Rae...."

She looked into his eyes, silently pleading with him. He exhaled slowly, sitting up and taking her hand in his.

"I don't want you hurting yourself."

Raven nodded, understanding, but not agreeing.

"It only hurts for a while, and feels more like an ache. It's not like I take on the complete wound. It's just a little sore afterwards."

She kissed his cheek, trying to convince him that it was no big deal. Robin finally cracked, letting her have her way.

"All right, but if it Ever gets to be more than sore, I don't want you healing the wounds. Okay?"

Raven smiled slightly, nodding. She lay down, snuggling up next to him. He took his cue, setting himself down and wrapping his arms around her small form.

He would let her heal his wounds and the others', but would keep it limited, so his girlfriend wouldn't have to ever take on a full wound.
