Pain

not a couple

The pain she was in, how she hurt. Her bones, broken, sprained. Her face, bruised, cut. She didn't care if she hurt, but she couldn't let the others see.

She couldn't let them see how much pain she was in. They wouldn't let her help anymore.

Last night they were in a heated battle with Slade. They ended up with many injuries, which Raven offered to heal.

Robin had insisted she not heal him, but Raven had. And now he was on to her. She hadn't been out of her room since last night, and multiple times Robin had knocked, but she turned him away.

Now she was on her bed, stomach down, her eyes shut tight. She clenched the sheet, trying to block out the pain.

He communicator rang, and Raven answered, emotionless.

"Yes?"

It was Robin. "Hey, Rae?"

"What?"

"You don't look good, are you ok?"

"I'm fine." Her voice wavered, and she knew he noticed.

"Raven....." His face showed his worry for the girl.

"Robin, I'm fine."

"Maybe I should come up and make sure."

Raven's eyes widened at this, and she instantly responded.

"No!"

Robin tilted his head, worried.

"Raven, I'm coming up."

She panicked, sitting up, and instantly regretted it. She grabbed her side, feeling the cut underneath. Robin could hear her cry of pain.

"Raven?!"

Raven grabbed the communicator off the ground and ended the call. He was coming, and she would be caught.

She tried to coax up her healing power, but she failed in doing so. She pulled her cloak around herself tightly, sensing his aura.

"Raven?" He asked through the door, knocking. She went to get up, but her foot wasn't strong enough.

He heard her faint "ow" and began typing in the override code. When the door opened, he saw her sitting on her bed, her face strained.

"Raven, what's going on?" He moved closer, seeing the bruises on her face.

"Those weren't there when we got home last night."

She looked away, not speaking.

Robin kneeled down in front of her, using his hand to cup her cheek and turn her face towards him.

"Rae, these are from when you healed us, aren't they?"

She nodded, closing her eyes and swallowing. He touched her neck, realizing he had had the same bruise last night.

He began thinking about his and his team mates injuries, confirming she had about 15 serious ones.

He slowly lifted her cloak, knowing she would have a broken ankle. He saw the twisted bone, and moved it slightly.

Raven clenched her teeth, trying not to cry. When he stopped moving it, she exhaled slowly.

He stood up, reaching for her. Slowly, Robin picked her up, heading for the infirmary.

"Robin, I am capable of walking."

"Not on that foot, Rae. Besides, I know you have a broken rib, wrist, and shin, too."

She sighed, deciding not to fight any longer. Soon he was in the infirmary, setting Raven down. She was upright, holding her wrist.

Robin was behind her, and she flinched when he touched her back. Knowing what he needed to do, she reached behind her, unzipping her leotard down to the middle of her back.

He grabbed some salve and rubbed it into the huge cut across her back. He felt Raven tense, hearing her sharp intake of breath.

Robin bandaged it, watching her relax.

"Rae, you should've told me."

"You wouldn't have let me help anymore."

"It hurts you."

"Only for a while."

"Raven, just please promise me you won't heal the serious ones."

She looked down, giving in.

"Fine."

Robin walked around to face her, pulling her into a soft hug. To his surprise, she hugged him back. He released her, finishing what he started.
