Chapter 7: Dr Tenma

Astro defeated the one-eyed alien with no problems or injuries. He mainly hurt the alien so much that it floated back up into space. Either way, it was gone. Astro met up with other kids and said their goodbyes. Cora stayed with her parents in Metro City while the others kids went back to their home on the Surface. They decided to fix up their home how they want it, with the help of all the other kids, (Y/N), Cora and Astro. Once everyone had gone home, Astro brought (Y/N) over to meet his dad, Dr Tenma.

"Dad, this is (Y/N). One of my friends that I met on the Surface." Astro explained.

"Nice to meet you, (Y/N)." Dr Tenma greeted with his hand extended.

"Likewise, sir." (Y/N) replied with a smile as she accepted the gesture with her left hand.

"She's been really nice to me and I was wondering if you could fix up her prosthetics?" Astro asked.

"Absolutely. Mind if I take a look?" Dr Tenma questioned nicely. (Y/N) nodded and used her left hand to raise her limp right arm. Astro's father observed the arm as he moved the fingers around, one of them fell off when he did. "Hmm." He hummed in thought as he picked the extra piece off the ground. "Would you prefer to keep the metal look or have a flesh-coloured look?" (Y/N) acknowledged the question. She could chose to have a normal look, or keep her metallic physique. It was a big decision, but she knew what would best suit her.

"The robotic look, please." She chose with a confident smile. She wanted to keep this look because it showed who she was and what she went through, and she loved that about herself.

"Alright then, let's go back to the tower and I'll start right away." Dr Tenma suggested and started to walk. Astro walked with (Y/N).

"Thank you." (Y/N) thanked the boy.

"No problem. I told you my dad would be more than happy to help you." Astro smiled. "Do you think I could know what happened to your arm now?"

"Oh, so that's why you helped me." (Y/N) said teasingly.

"No, no, I helped you because you helped me, and because I wanted to." Astro said with a laugh. "...And maybe to know what happened." He admitted nervously with a small blush. Thank goodness robots couldn't literally blush or Astro would've been seen with a heat signature seeker from miles away.

"It happened over a year ago. Three teenagers, similar to our age, were following a young kid at night. I saw them running towards where I knew a cliff was. Out of instinct, I followed them. The three teens chased the kid and pushed them over. Luckily, the kid grabbed the edge of the cliff and I pulled the three teens away from the cliff and beat one pretty bad, thanks to the metal leg. Obviously, the other two ran away, the cowards they were. The third followed pretty soon after. I went to the cliff and grabbed the kids arm. They were screaming and kicking, they couldn't understand a word I said. They thrashed about so much, my shoulder popped out. I eventually calmed them down and pulled them up, but my arm was so messed up, no one could put it back into placed properly since there were no legitimate doctors on the Surface. Started losing feeling in it, then Hamegg got to me and insisted that the only thing we could do was amputate it and replace it with a prosthetic. I was pretty much knocked out so he just did it anyways. Later, I found out if I was able to find a proper doctor, they could've healed it. But by then... Hamegg had already finished." (Y/N) explained her story on how she lost her second limb. Astro listened with shock and rage that bubbled inside him. They reached the bottom of Dr Tenma's tower once the story was done.

"(Y/N), I'm so sorry." Astro's immediate instinct was to apologise, but for what? He wasn't there, it wasn't his fault. He did the same when (Y/N) told the story of her leg, he felt it was necessary. Maybe it was guilt. Guilty that he wasn't there to save her from having to go through the procedures. The three of them stood in an elevator as it rose to the top floor, Dr Tenma's lab.

"You don't need to apologise, Astro." (Y/N) whispered. "You weren't there. I didn't even know you." She held his hand with her left one. "But I'm glad I do now." Astro smiled and returned the gesture as he lightly squeezed her hand. The elevator eventually reached the top floor and they walked through to see a large counter in the middle of the room. (Y/N) was led over by Astro and sat on the countertop, her right arm rested next to her. Dr Tenma opened up multiple screens and started to scan (Y/N)'s robotic limbs. (Y/N) was asked to lay down for the scan, nervousness surged through her veins as the scanning machines were brought extremely close to her body. Astro stood beside her with a smile, (Y/N) exhaled once she looked at him.

The scan was done and Dr Tenma knew exactly what to make, it would just take time. But he did notice something else. "These prosthetics are doing a lot of damage to the skin it's connected to. You could have some serious infections from the metal." Dr Tenma explained. (Y/N) looked at him anxiously.

"So what do I do to fix it?" She asked.

"Well, firstly, we have to take them off as soon as we can. Then I'll bring my friend, who's a doctor, to see if there are any infections and if we'll need to cut them out."

"Wait, like, surgery?"

"Maybe. Only if the infections are serious."

"So, I'll be missing a leg and an arm until the new ones are made?"

"Yes, but Astro will be able to help you around. You can stay at our house until the prosthetics are made." Dr Tenma offered. Astro quietly beamed with excitement. (Y/N) thought about it for a second. She'd actually really appreciate a proper place to stay, and to have more time with Astro. But she'd never reveal that. And sure, she loved her home on the Surface, which was now connected with Metro City, but her home isn't as sanitary as it should be if she were to go through with this surgery. So, she accepted the offer.
