Chapter 5: Let's Get Him Back
"And now, the final challenger. A robot so fearsome, so powerful, even I'm afraid to watch. I give you... the mighty Zog!" Hamegg announced as Zog was lifted up by a large platform and placed in front of Astro.
"Oh no." Astro gasped sadly.
"Let's see how Astro Boy does against a robot powered with the same energy's he's got." Hamegg dared.
"I'm not fighting you, Zog." Astro said. Hamegg laughed as Zog stepped towards the boy. "I mean it! I won't fight!" The other kids watched in fear. Zog reached down and made it look like he was about to squash Astro with his huge metal hand but all he did was rub the kids head. Astro gasped happily and walked onto Zog's hand before he was raised in the air. The crowd cheered.
"Great! A love-in! Some big finale. I said fight!" Hamegg yelled before he electrocuted Astro out of Zog's hand.
"I wont fight." Astro declared as he tried to stand up from the ground.
"Fight!" Hamegg yelled again, forcing the boy down to the ground with the small electrocuting device. Astro yelped.
"That's enough!" Zane intervened as Trashcan growled.
"(Y/N), we have to do something!" Widget said as she pulled on (Y/N)'s left hand. (Y/N) desperately wanted to jump into the arena and push Hamegg off his floating platform but before she could try it, Hamegg lowered himself and walked towards Astro while repeatedly electrocuting him.
"What's the matter with you? They're just machines. They'll do what I tell them. What? I'm gonna get embarrassed by some soup-up hotshot from Metro City? A hundred-year-old bulldozer from New Jersey? I don't think so! I'm turning you both off!" Zog stopped him by stomping on the ground forcefully. He walked over to the fallen man and raised his foot. "Stop! The laws of robotics! You can't hurt a human! It's been that way for fifty years!"
"...I'm old school." Zog dropped his foot. The crowd gasped and covered their eyes.
"Look." Sludge gasped as he pointed to Zog who was arched over. Hamegg was still alive, but only because Astro stopped Zog's foot from crushing him.
"What kind of robot are you?" Hamegg asked, astounded. Astro looked back up to the kids, specifically (Y/N), who held a slight smile. He smiled back before he, along with everyone else, looked up to see a giant ship lower itself into the arena. Men with guns and armoured suits came jogging out.
"What are they doing here?" Cora asked out loud.
"Seize the roque robot and secure the area." A man ordered the soldiers. One of the soldiers grabbed Astro's arm.
"Hey!" He yelled at the sudden feeling of contact. Zog lifted two men off the ground before Astro told him to stop.
"Zog, stop! Put them down." He said before he looked back up to the others. "It doesn't matter anymore." Zog dropped the two men. The crowd boo'd while one person threw a can at Hamegg's head. "I'm sorry. I tried to tell you." Astro admitted up towards the other kids.
"Keep moving." A soldier ordered as he pushed Astro further into the ship. Trashcan growled from the stands and jumped into the arena.
"Trashcan, no!" Widget cried as (Y/N) held her back. (Y/N) gave her to Cora before she jumped down herself to retrieve the robotic dog. Trashcan ran over to the soldier who pushed Astro and bit his leg.
"Hey, get off me you dumb robot! Get off!" He yelled as he kicked Trashcan off. (Y/N) ran over and steadied the dog before she looked at Astro and he looked at her.
"It's okay, Trashcan... Bye, (Y/N)." He waved with a sad smile, while the girl's eyes slowly watered. Meanwhile, Hamegg had already left the arena and returned to where all the orphan kids lived. (Y/N) reunited with the kids along with Trashcan.
"We can't just do nothing! Who's knows what they're planning on doing to him." Zane noted.
"He still lied." Cora continued, hesitantly but desperately trying to stick to her original argument.
"But he was nice to us." Widget mentioned.
"You heard Hamegg. They're programmed to smile and laugh to make us think they're real people." Cora reminded them.
"Who cares what Hamegg said. He was nice wasn't he?" (Y/N) asked.
"Yeah, he was but-"
"And he helped us and saved you from falling while we were washing Zog."
"But he-"
"And he kept your secret." (Y/N) finished as she whispered to Cora. Cora looked to her, guilty. She'd lost the argument. "I'm 'half-robot', according to Zane." Cora laughed. "But I'm also human. And I think inside... Astro is too." Cora nodded then smirked.
"And you want to save him because you like him." She whispered back before she started to walk over to the exit of the arena.
"What?! Wait- No, no I don't." (Y/N) stuttered but Cora just continued to walk. The others met up with (Y/N) before they all caught up with Cora, and asked what Cora had said to make (Y/N) react so abruptly. Cora said it was nothing as (Y/N) rolled her eyes. (Y/N) pushed it aside but couldn't shake the feeling that Cora was right.
----------------------------------------------------------
"That has to be Astro." Widget said while they all watched explosions go off in Metro City. "I don't care if he's a robot. I miss him."
"I hear you." Zane agreed. (Y/N) stood beside Cora.
"So, what're you thinking?" She asked the black and purple haired girl.
"Something reckless." Cora replied as (Y/N) smirked back.
"When the going get's tough, smart people take a hike. Bye bye, kids." Hamegg said as he got into the car. "What do you want an apology?" He asked as the kids stood in front of the car.
"Nope. Just the car." Cora stated.
"I would love to oblige you, but-" Hamegg's sentence was cut off by Zog ripping the top part of the car off and lifting Hamegg out by his shirt collar. The kids and Trashcan took off towards Metro City in the flying car. "Come on, I love you guys! Please, call of the freaking robot!"
