Chapter 2: Bringing ZOG To Life

The next day, (Y/N), Cora, Zane, Widget, Sludge and Astro walked down a hill through a green grassy field. "Hey, quit bugging me. I said I would. I just want them to get used to me first." Astro said to Trashcan as the robotic dog jumped about annoyingly. Astro then ran up closer to the group. "What does Hamegg want all these parts for?"

"He's a genius. He can make cool robots from pretty much any old scrap. And then he puts them into 'Hamegg's Robot Games'!" Cora explained.

"Robot games?"

"They're a tradition down here. It's kind of a... Roman thing."

"And it's pretty cool." Zane added.

"You're not gonna find much here. It's a graveyard." Astro said knowingly.

"Mr. Metro City's first day and he's already an expert." Cora said sarcastically.

"You'd be surprised. I know a thing or two about robots." Astro explained.

"So does (Y/N). With her being half-robot and all." Zane noted.

"Half-robot?" (Y/N) questioned the name.

"Well, it's better than being called 'half-metal'." Zane tried to convince her. (Y/N) just smiled and rolled her eyes at the boy, causing Astro to let out a small laugh.

"Hey guys, I think we've found something!" Widget yelled out.

"See? Coming!" Cora called back as she ran over to the twins with (Y/N) following her.

"Look at this!" Sludge exclaimed as he showed the two girls what it was. He handed it to (Y/N) to let her examine it. "What is it?" He asked.

"One massive robot eye. The glass is broken but I'm sure Hamegg could use it for something. Nice find, twins." (Y/N) complimented Sludge and Widget, making them jump up and high five each other.

"Whoa! Hey, (Y/N)! I think I found something!" Astro called out a couple metres behind them. They all turned around and looked to where Astro had ran to.

"Ha! That's just an old construction robot. It fell to the surface, like, 100 years ago." Cora informed.

"Do you think Hamegg could use it?" Astro asked.

"Yeah, if he had a robot like that, he's make a fortune in the games. But it's just junk. We used to have picnics in it's head!"

"Just give me a minute!"

"It ways hundreds of tons. What're you gonna do? Put it in your backpack?" Cora asked sarcastically. Her comment causing the others to laugh.

"Let's give him a shot, see what happens." (Y/N) suggested.

"Alright, but it may take a while, so get comfortable guys." Cora said as she sat down along with the others. They sat down for a few minutes just talking about anything they could, including complaining about Astro taking to long. But (Y/N) wanted to give him a chance. There's been many times where she was told she couldn't fix something, and from minutes to days later, she'd have made it better than it was before. And before they knew it, the ground shook as the old construction robot was brought to life.

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Okay, tiger. Show me watcha got!" Back at the house, Hamegg was training a new robot he had recently built. "Hold it right there, twinkle toes. What are you, some kind of ice-skater? You planning on ballroom dancing with this guy or are you gonna fight him? That's better! Now hit him below the belt. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Now get him in a headlock and pound him! Pound him! Use your thumbs! Great, great. Kid, I think you've got the makings of a champion." Hamegg compliment the robot. The robot raised his fists together as if he'd just won a fight. He was then squashed but a massive, golden robot foot. Hamegg gasped and looked up.

"Hi Hamegg!" The kids greeted from the shoulders of the robot.

"Sorry about your robot." Astro apologised.

"What? Oh, him? He wasn't really working out anyway. But, hey, this guy's something else!" He exclaimed as the kids were lowered down. "Look at the legs on this baby. Look at those feet. None of your carbon-fibre plastic junk on this guy. That's solid pig-iron."

"Astro got it running, which I'm still having trouble believing." Cora noted.

"Told you we should give him a chance." (Y/N) pointed out, causing Astro to smile at her.

"But it's been dead for at least a century! How did you do it? Please, tell me! How did you do it?" Hamegg pleaded.

"I just kicked it, you know, like a vending machine. 'Give me back my money'! It was nothing." Astro laughed nervously.

"You hear that kids? A genius with modesty. I didn't think it occurred in nature. Ah! You're almost too good to be true, kid!" Hamegg complimented as he hugged Astro. "Keep this up and I may just have to adopt you!" He exclaimed causing Trashcan to growl. Hamegg held a small machine up towards the giant golden robot. "Holy cow. This thing's got enough juice to run a city." Hamegg noted as he pulled the machine away and accidentally pointed it to Astro. It beeped loudly.

"What was that?" Astro asked.

"Oh, nothing, son, just another machine with a mind of it's own." Hamegg said calming as he smiled a little uneasily.

------------------------------------------------------------

Cora wiped her finger on the robot to see dust fall down. "Ready guys?" She asked the others. They all gathered cleaning supplies and washed the rusty robot. Trashcan brought out soft drinks while Hamegg's crushed robot brought out pizza. Once it was all shiny, they decided to paint patterns and pictures all around the robots body, including writing 'ZOG' on the front in big red letters.

Once they were all done, they called Hamegg out and he gasped, smiled and laughed at the sight of the giant, clean and decorated robot. He knew it would become valuable during the games.

"Everybody say 'Limburger'!" Cora called out as they all took a photo while Astro slowly leaned closer to (Y/N), with (Y/N) subconsciously leaning towards him.
