Chapter 13: First Prosthetic
(Y/N)'s wheelchair was pushed by Astro as Dr Tenma led the way through the lab. "So it'll be quite a complex procedure due to the damage your previous prosthetic did to your flesh and muscle. But all we'll do is cut back where your arm stump is so the new prosthetic is able to connect to the muscle." He explained. (Y/N) nodded with a nervous smile and exhaled shakily. Astro noticed this and kneeled in front of her.
"I'll be right here the entire time, trust me. Nothing will go wrong and you'll be back on both your feet in no time." He smiled. (Y/N) took another breath and smiled back. They made their way over to the counter where (Y/N) would be operated on. (Y/N) looked around and watched all the surgery tools and any objects in the room as if they were about to pounce on her. Before she knew it, Astro gently lifted her up and placed her on the countertop. (Y/N) looked around anxiously, yet she was still lying down in the appropriate position. Astro stayed beside her, right next to her head. Oh how she desperately wished he was on her left side so he could hold her only hand. Astro smiled again to distract her from the needle Dr. Tenma started to reveal. (Y/N) was about to look at the needle before Astro grabbed the side of her face and they locked eyes. He didn't know exactly why he chose to hold her face, but he did. And there was no turning back now because it seemed to be working. (Y/N) didn't notice the needle Dr. Tenma was about to penetrate into her left wrist. Just as the needle's tip pierced into (Y/N)'s skin, (Y/N) gasped rapidly and tried to looked over to where the pain was coming from.
But she was stopped as Astro gently pulled her face back and planted his lips on hers. (Y/N)'s eyes widened and for a split second, she panicked. But the panic didn't last long. Her eyes slowly closed from both the kiss and the anesthesia effect. (Y/N)'s eyes opened once more when their lips parted, and she smiled, her nerves had melted away. Astro smiled back at her as she was engulfed by darkness.
"Astro, want to help me with the procedure?" Dr. Tenma asked as he pretended that he didn't just witness the passionate kiss. A couple seconds passed before Astro eventually looked away from (Y/N). He nodded hesitantly, then assuringly.
"Yeah... yeah, sure. It- It won't hurt her, right?" Astro asked with worried eyes. Dr. Tenma shook his head.
"No, no, not at all. She won't feel a thing. Well, until she wakes up, that is. Might feel a bit dizzy, woozy and tired, but with your help, I'm sure she'll be fine." He assured. Astro sighed in relief, before they both began the surgery with the help of two other doctors, one of which being Dr. Eelefun, who had just arrived.
(Y/N) stirred in her sleep. The whole procedure was completed in just over an hour, then she started to wake up. The prosthetic was attached, the blood was wiped away, and (Y/N)'s eyes could start to be been seen moving underneath her eyelids. Her eyes fluttered drowsily, and she looked around in a haze. In a matter of seconds, she remembered the reason she was asleep in the first place. Instantly, (Y/N) tried to move her new right prosthetic arm, but nothing happened. She tried again, nothing. She started to freak out. This was supposed to help her, this was supposed to make her go back to normal again. Her eyes desperately searched for Astro. Maybe he could help her, maybe he could calm her down. (Y/N)'s breathing went back to normal when a hand rested against her cheek. She turned her head so fast she wouldn't be surprised if it had kept spinning.
"You're okay! Alright? You're fine..." Astro smiled kindly as he placed his other hand on her other cheek. "Dad said you'll be able to move it in the next few days. A week, tops." He explained. (Y/N)'s breathing had eventually returned to normal as she glanced over to Bill Tenma, who held a massively proud yet genuine smile. (Y/N) looked back down to her new arm and could've sworn she saw her index finger flinch when she tried to move. This gave her a small sense of hope. Yes, it was a small amount, but it's more than what was there before. And that enough make her motivated to keep going.
"I'm good... I'm fine." (Y/N) sighed as she smiled to Astro. Astro smiled back as Dr. Tenma pulled (Y/N)'s wheelchair closer. Astro lowered a still-dazed (Y/N) into the chair.
"I'll finish things here. You okay to bring her back up to the apartment?" Bill Tenma asked while he also suggested. Astro looked back to (Y/N).
"Uh, y-yeah, I'll be fine." He nodded as he began to push the wheelchair. They travelled into the elevator before it went up to the Tenma apartment. Astro went through to be greeted by Orrin and an empty table. The robot assistant must of cleaned the table and stored the food for later, as he almost guaranteed that they would be hungry later on (depending on whether you favourite meal is able to be stored in the fridge or not, that's up to you. Doesn't really affect the story :). Astro took (Y/N) into his room, almost 100% sure that she'd feel more comfortable away from the others. And because she'd also be really tired. Once (Y/N) was tucked in and asleep, Astro started to exit, then he stopped. He froze in the doorway and faced (Y/N). Then he realised, he did like her. A lot. And he never wanted to leave her side. Despite their young age, he was desperate that she felt the same.
