Up Too Late

A/N:  Someone who works at Lucasfilm and is producing Star Wars came to talk to my class today :)  She also talked about her boyfriend who designs Tesla cars :D  Happiness...

BRUCE IS 'DEAD' IN THIS ONE SHOT AND DICK IS THE LEGAL GUARDIAN

Jason can catch with his hips people!  Pic up there is super cute :)

+_+_+_+_+

Tim looked at the clock as it hit 6:00 A.M.  That would mark his fifth day without sleep.  He turned to look at his schoolwork again, and deeming it perfect, he turned his light off and crept off into the night... going to the Batcave.

Of course it was the Batcave.  He needed to train.  Training was such an integral part of his life, just like Red Robin was.  And a huge part of Red Robin was obviously not sleeping.  He was training to be the damned Batman for heavens sake!  He needed to learn how to not sleep for at least a week!  Also, the most important job was to learn how to deal with Damian, who like most everybody in the Batfamily, was down in the morning training, except he was the first and that was often a problem.

So he crept down the hall, his feet padding against the carpet softly, and it seemed liked the thick carpet held the sound, just like he held secrets, that nobody would ever know.  Well he hoped, but you never know.

Passing Cassandra's room he quietly marked the door with a piece of red chalk then walked off satisfied, knowing that Cass would probably be up and rolling her eyes at the silly notion.  He walked to the great grandfather clock and tugged onto it.

He pressed the button and took the incredibly high tech elevator down to the Batcave and yawned quietly into his sleeve as he looked at himself in his pocket mirror.  He would have to get some makeup to cover up those huge bags under his eyes.  Dick would definitely suspect something if they even saw that.  Heck maybe even Jason or Cass might say something.  Those things were definitely gonna go this morning when he got his coffee from downstairs.

He walked into the Batcave, unaware of a certain someones presence.

+_+_+_+_+_+_

Damian watched quietly as his older brother stumbled tiredly into the Batcave with his eyes looking more black then their normal blue tone.  He decided against saying anything, as it would be a futile attempt to fight someone who was to tired to even retort.  He could only wonder why his brother would be this tired.  And plus, Tim didn't even seem to know he was there.  He didn't even seem to be aware he was walking into a pole.

CLANG!!!

And that's when Damian started to get a little suspicious of him...

Damian  had no care in the world for Tim, or that's what he thought.  So when he got worried about his brother's condition he started to worry about himself.  Damian growled to himself and rolled his shoulder back, thinking he should really tell Dick about this, since Tim seemed half dead.

Tim was on the ground and he struggled to get up, sighing and trying to hold in tears of pain and tiredness as he got himself up onto his feet.  He sighed a deep sigh and wiped his face,"I have to do this.." he muttered, consumed by the fact that Red Robin needed to stay at least a week up without sleeping.  Because if he slept, he might miss an important clue, or he might miss an important fight.  Plus, he needed to study for his midterms which were in a few months.

Damian watched his brother and pondered over the weird words, 'I have to do this..'  Suddenly, Damian couldn't take this anymore.  He couldn't see his mortal enemy in pain.  Who else would he torture if Tim was gone?

+_+_+_+_+_+_+

Damian slunk into Dick's room cautiously, knowing he would probably be attacked with a hug. He looked up at the ceiling and did a silent prayer, but still knowing regardless, a hug would be on schedule.

He was right.

"DAMI!!!" Dick yelled happily, bouncing on his feet.  He had been standing at his bedside staring at a picture sadly, which he promptly dropped to hug his brother.  And to forget the pain he was going through, staring at his father.   Bruce.  His dead father who had left him with a burden so huge he wasn't sure how to handle it.  Damian was like a mini Bruce, but that's not what Dick loved him for.  He loved him for being Dami, and Dami often took a lot of pain off of Dick's mind.

"Get off me Grayson... or I'll break your face." Damian said glaring.  He stared up at Dick with a look that one could only describe as 'pure hatred'.  Of course it wasn't, it was just his reaction, and Dick knew it.

"And there goes my morning." Dick frowned, but turned it upside down into a smile, knowing that it was Damian he was talking to, "What's up little D?"

"Drake appears to be ill, and just ran into a pole and is not getting up as fast as his normal speed is."  Damian said, glaring at his older brother.

"He's staying up late again?" Dick said, his face falling and he fell back onto his bed, he put his hand over his eyes and mumbled, "Why do you guys do this to me?  To just purposely torture me... why did Bruce leave me with this?  I can never live up to him...."

"What do you mean?" Damian said, standing stiffly at the door.  He sometimes heard his brother talk like this and had no idea what to make of it.

"Nothing!" Dick popped up again, and put on his fake smile, "Let's go check on Tim huh?"

"What's wrong?" Damian persisted, wondering what the heck was wrong with his family lately.

"Nothing, we need to go check on Tim, move out of the way Damian...." Dick said, trying to push his younger brother away from the door.

"You looked upset a moment ago!" Damian said, pondering if Jason would be having some weird problems today too.

"That was a few moments ago, now can you go move?" Dick asked, pushing against his brother none to lightly.

"What is wrong with you guys?!" Damian said, frustrated.

"What do you mean?" Dick stopped pushing for a moment but was slying slipping past.

"Something's wrong with Drake and something's wrong with you!"  Damian said, glaring as Dick got past his wall.

"Well...." Dick sighed, full of tiredness, and he walked down the hall, "Let's just find out about Tim first!"

"I'm leaving!" Damian said, walking off to Jason's room, sickened by his brothers and their 'problems'.

+_+_+_+_+

"What's up Damian?" Jason asked, smoking his cigarette as Damian walked into his room.

"Our brothers are being ridiculous!" Damian announced.

"What's new?" Jason asked, winking.

"Well, I assume Drake has purposely been making himself stay up all night.  And Grayson seems upset with that." Damian said, plopping himself onto Jason's bed.  He had a special bond with Jason, considering both had died.

"Again?" Jason asked, tittering.

"This has happened before?" Damian asked, taking a knife out of his pocket and casually flipping it in the air.

"Yep.... and your next question is why?" Jason asked, barely lifting an eyebrow.

"tt.... I sometimes forget that my Father raised you for sometime."  Damian scoffed.

"Well, you see, Tim has this weird notion that he must be perfect and more Batmanlike, so he is always trying to stay up for a week or over.  Which is unhealthy and the exact same thing Bruce and Dick do.  Except they can do it, and Tim is still trying.  I guess it bothers him a lot, must be stressful." Jason said, shooting his gun at the door and smiling as it hit the target.

Damian coughed as the smoke from Jason's cigarette reached his nose and continued, "What's wrong with Grayson then?"

"I guess trying to be the perfect father to us... it's pretty stressful considering us.... you know.  Being Batman, being head of Wayne Industries, being a perfect father to four kids, trying to cope with his fathers death, and then second-guessing himself because he'll never be as good as anybody else." Jason said.

"tt.... so it's up to us to solve this problem?" Damian said.

"This is a first." Jason said, taking his cigarette out for a second.

"What's a first?" Damian asked, turning his head only slightly.

"We have to solve a problem and you're willing to do it." Jason said, his head lolling backwards so he could look out his window.

Damian paused, then knowing he would later regret these words: "Okay... so um... how are we supposed to fix this?"

+_+_+_+_+_

Tim was laying in his bed when Jason and Damian approached him.  Dick had forced him of course and he did not like it.  Nevertheless he was determined to stay awake no matter what.  So he kept his eyes open, staring at the light on the ceiling.

"Um... Timmy?" Jason asked, clicking his fingers together to get his brothers attention.

"What's the demon doing here?" Tim fake smiled, probably getting it from Dick.

"Trying to convince you to sleep!" Damian said, getting a little desperate at his enemy's state.

"I don't need sleep!" Tim responded sullenly.

"Yes you do!" Jason said, sitting on the bed next to his brother, and motioning Damian to leave the room, knowing whatever Damian said at this point might be futile.

Damian nodded and went to go find Dick.

Jason stared at the door for a while then back at his brother, "You know you can't stay awake forever."

"I need to train!" Tim replied, snapping.

"No you don't, look, you don't need to be up for an entire week, you know that right?" Jason asked.

"Yes I do!" Tim said.

"You know you're stressing Damian out right?" Jason said, sorry that he was telling Tim this because he knew Damian would probably be onto him.

"What?" Tim asked, sitting up with a grimace.

"He literally confessed to me before we came into the room that he was feeling worried for you!  You know that's a huge step right?"  Jason asked, prodding his brother.

"What are you saying Jay?" Tim asked.

"Go to sleep.  When Damian's worried about you, then you know it isn't healthy.  Plus, you're stressing me and Dick out of our minds." Jason said, poking his brother.

"But I need to train..." Tim argued weakly.

"But, but, but... look, what you need is sleep.  You've trained enough!" Jason argued.

"Really?"

"Really.  Now get some sleep now!"

Tim smiled, then knowing that his brothers cared, slowly drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

+_+_+_+_+_

"Grayson?"

Dick looked up from the photo he was holding and looked up to see Damian, "Oh hey Dami, what's up?"

"Why are you upset?" Damian cut straight to the point.

"And.... here we go, down the rabbit hole!" Dick joked, "What do you mean?"

"You're upset because you aren't enough are you?" Damian asked, sitting on Dick's bed and making himself at home.

"Blood son..." Dick growled, leaning back so he was next to Damian.

The two laid down by each other side by side for a few minutes until Damian spoke again, "You know you are good enough for me right?"

"Huh?"

"You're good enough to me."

"Nah, you know I'm not, I can never live up to your father."

"Living up to yourself?"

"What?"

"You're  my father.  And nobodies perfect, but you are to me."

"Aw... Damian!" Dick said, tears in his eyes as he hugged his younger brother ,"You mean it?"

"Why else would I say it?" Damian asked, pleased he had made his brother happy.

Dick smiled, "Because it was for some evil motive...."

"Darn it, you've blown my plans for the future!" Damian joked, but let Dick silently cry because of Damian's sudden show of emotion, "But seriously, you should know you are always enough to me and our brothers... always"

+_+_+_+_ending...

"Drake's asleep?" Damian asked, meeting up with Jason in the middle of the hall.

"Yes, and Dick?" Jason asked equally evilly.

"Like a baby.  Lulled him right into our trap!  I've got the keys!" Damian announced.

"Yeah.... now let's go rampage the city in the Batmobile people!" Jason shouted.

"Sh... they might wake up and find out!" Damian said, snickering evilly.
