Gravity

Okay, I tried to make a humorous chapter, it didn't work.... sorry:

ALSO, important note, this chapter is set in the future: Damian is 18, Tim is 23, Jason is 27, Dick is 26, and Cass is like 22.  There may be some OC's in this chapter and there is a new Robin, because Damian couldn't have stayed Robin till 18, so I'm really sorry that I have to make up a character, once again, so so sorry, but I really hope you enjoy.

Damian bit the end of his eraser, thoughtfully planning out the next part of his English essay on family.  Honestly, this was hard.  Really hard.  He hadn't even started.  That's how hard it was, and this was due tomorrow.

He hadn't started for a reason.  And that reason was because his family had fallen apart years ago.  Well, they'd all left and went their separate ways.  Dick had gone off to college long ago(graduating with a PhD in math)and married Babs(who got a PhD in aerospace engineering), soon after and they were busy raising their kids.  Jason moved out once Dick did and pretty much disappeared off the face of the Earth, presumably traveling the world.  Tim moved out of the house right after Jason disappeared and got accepted into Yale 3 years earlier than expected, and recently they heard he was engaged to Steph.  Alfred died, had a heart-attack three days after the boys disappeared.  Cassandra left a week after that, joining some elite team of people skilled in gymnastics and fighting.

Bruce was still here and he was still Batman, older and wiser perhaps, but he was still Batman.  He had been through countless heartbreaks as his four eldest children had moved out and away.  Damian was no longer Robin, he was now Eagle.  It was a fitting enough name for him, as he had to pass his Robin mantle onto someone else.  That would be Ethan Dunes.  He was the newest Robin, and at 13 years he possessed the same amazing talent for the impossible that each of his progressors had.  Dick had been far amazing and skilled at gymnastics.  Jason was the one with the incredible aim.  Tim had been the smart one, coding and hacking had been his profession.  Stephanie possessed this high pain tolerance level.  Damian himself  was just skilled with swords and sai's and was bred to be perfect.  Ethan was the martial arts prodigy, and he, Dami had to admit was pretty amazing.

Dick would be happy to hear that his mantle had extended all the way to this....

but Dick wasn't here, and Damian couldn't be there to tell him and Damian couldn't be there to watch Dick's face light up.

Jason would love to know Damian got accepted to do a national gun championship...

but Jason had disappeared, and Damian wouldn't be able to see how proud his brother would've been of him.

Tim would be so grateful to know that Damian had become valedictorian in his eighth grade class...

but Tim had a life, and he would never know anything about Damian's achievements, and he'd never be jealous.

Cassandra might of been happy that Damian had used some of her tricks on his prisoners...

but Cass was off with some other people, and she might not ever hear about Damian's 10% upgrade on how many guys he sent to jail.

They would never know.

They might not ever come back.

So this was why his essay was going badly.

"Damian?"  a voice came from the door.

"Yeah?"  Damian whipped his head around to see Ethan leaning on the door with tears staining the corners of his face, and immediate concern flooded through him.  It was weird, caring for someone like this, but he had learned from Dick that being a great big brother was very important, and he needed to be there for his younger brother, "What's wrong?"

"I have no idea what to write for my English paper on family?  Remember?  Grew up in a trailer park and everything?" Ethan asked, waving his hands around. Gosh, he had a paper on this to?  But Damian could see how this was hard for Ethan.  The poor kid had grown up all by himself outside trailers in a trailer park, and was being constantly tossed around between families, never settling in one place,"Who do I write about?"

"You can use me and Bruce." Damian replied.  Ethan could, because Damian and Bruce were pretty much the only family he had, and the only family he would ever know.

"What's wrong with you?" Ethan asked, pointing at Damian's empty paper.  Damian still hadn't written anything, and the end of his eraser was pretty knawed at,"Got nothing to write about?  You should call your brothers!"

"I want to call my family, but I don't know if they want to hear from me." Damian replied, looking at the teenager with curious eyes.  The newest member of the Bat Clan was very observant,"I'm just scared of being rejected.

"Oh just call 'um, if they respond and they miss you, bring 'um over, I want to meet them.  If not, then it's their loss.  And plus Dami, you've spent most of your life with them, and they are your family, I doubt they wouldn't want to hear from you." Ethan said, shrugging and leaving the room,"Good luck.  Update me later."

Damian sighed and turned back to his blank piece of paper, and reluctantly picked up the phone, and slowly he dialed a number.

----

"GRAYSON!"  Damian yelled as a lean and muscular(at the same time) figure walked towards him.

"Hey little D!" Dick Grayson let himself be hugged by the excited 18 year old boy who had practically launched himself out of the window to display a rare affection for his eldest brother.

"I missed you so much!" Damian said as tears sprang from his eyes.

"I did to, and I regret everyday that I didn't send a letter to you." Dick said, wiping the tears off of Damian's face with his thumb,"Never knew why you didn't write back though."

"You wrote to me?" Damian asked, this was his first time hearing of this.

"Hey demon child!" Tim Drake was standing behind Dick, leaning against the desk and looking cool and smart at the same time.

"Drake?  It's... it's you!" as much as Damian hated to admit it, he hated not being able to torture his older brother everyday when he woke up in the morning.

"Yo Dami, how have you been?  Your new superhero name suiting you?" Tim asked as Damian shook his hand.

"Great!" Damian looked at Tim in the eyes and held back some proud tears.

"How come you never responded to my Skypes?" Tim asked pulling back momentarily to look at Damian seriously.

"What Skypes?  Todd?" Damian whipped his head around to see his grumpiest brother.

"Hey little brother!  How have you been?  Heard you got into the competition for guns!  You better win it for me!" Jason threatened staring his brother hard before tackling him in a breathless hug.

"Oh my gosh I've missed you!" Damian let his head be buried in Jason's well toned muscles.

"Hey, why haven't you responded to all those voice-mails I left you about all those different countries I went to?" Jason asked, throwing Damian onto his back and dragging him into the manor.

"What voice-mails?" Damian asked, confusion as to why he never received any letters, Skypes, or voice-mails.

"Well, if it isn't my younger brother!" Cass Cain said, sitting on the banister,"Was wondering when you'd notice me!"

"Cain!  You devil!" Damian hugged his sister.

"Hey!  Man, I've missed your demonic smile, why haven't you responded to my emails?" Cass asked, getting to the point.

"Wait what?  I never got any letters, Skypes, voice-mails, or emails!  At all!  Why did I never get them?" Damian asked, holding his head in his hands.

"I don't know!" Dick said, not very helpfully.

"Wait, I may have an idea!" Tim said, shaking his head.

---

"BRUCE!" Dick yelled, listening to the incredible silence in the grand cave.  The fabled and amazing Batcave.

"Is that you Dickie bird?" Bruce came out of the shadows to see each of his young prodigies and young adults glaring at him.

"We know what you did!" anger was seeping out of Damian so fast the nothing could stop it.

"Uh oh...." Bruce looked troubled.

"Why did you block everything we ever sent to Damian?" Cass asked, apparently upset as she plopped down onto Bruce's chair.

"I know, I went through a lot of work to make those voice-mails Bruce!" Jason added hotly, pulling Damian close to him,"Why did you do it?"

"Because you guys left me!  You all broke my heart multiple times in the same year.  I didn't want Damian to keep talking about you and making my heart break even further.  I just didn't want to think about you guys." Bruce said sadly, touching his heart and sitting onto the floor.

"You always had problems with just talking things out didn't you?" Tim asked, leaning back onto the chair.

"Well by doing that you only made me suffer!" Damian said, tears pouring out before he could even stop them.

"I'm so so sorry Damian, I had no idea how much I was hurting you..." Bruce trailed off in stark realization.

"Promise you'll never do that again?"

"Promise."

---

"Hey, can I meet the newest Robin?"  Cass asked once things were all sorted out.

"Oh my gosh!" everybody turned to see Ethan practically hyperventilating,"Oh my gosh, it's the very first Robin ever!  It's Dick Grayson!  Oh my gosh!  I'm seeing history!  Oh wow!  Oh my gosh!  And your Jason Todd!  Your the one that has amazing gun skills!  Oh my gosh!  I so wish I had that!  Oh my gosh!  You're Tim Drake!  You have to teach my how to improve my hacking skills!  Please!  Oh my gosh!  You're Cassie Cain!  You're the one who can just tell what people are doing before they do it!  Oh my gosh I love you guys!"

"Oh wow," Dick said, smiling to everybody with his movie-star smile,"We've got one super happy Robin over here.  Do you have any idea how lucky you are to live with Damian though?"

"Yeah, you're giving us so much credit you are forgetting someone!" Jason added, thoughtfully and not sarcastically.

"Oh no, I love Damian.  I'd never take him for granted, and no offense, but out of all of you, Damian is my favorite Robin in that whole wide world, 'cause he's my brother and he saved my life.  Not a day goes by when I don't replay that whole scene where Dami convinced B to make me Robin.  I love Dami the best." Ethan said solemnly,"And he'll always be family to me, wherever I go and whatever I do, because no matter what, love it what always draws me to him."

"I know what my reports gonna be about!" Damian announced, hugging Ethan, glaring at everybody else in Damian fashion and swinging off to his room.

----

Damian shuffled his papers nervously.

"Mr. Wayne, would you mind coming to the front of the classroom to say your speech?"

-----

Damian concluded his paper with this:

"And so no matter how far away you are from you family, it doesn't matter, because if you're really close to each other, then distance won't matter.  You see, because love is like the planets and gravity.  Gravity is invisible, like love, yet we all still know that is always there.  The planets are so far apart from each other, but there is one thing that holds them together, and that would be gravity.  It's exactly like love, no matter how far away you are from your loved ones, if they truly love you, love is what will constantly keep you together."

----

Damian looked up."Thank you all so much.  And special thanks to my family.  I know better than to ever doubt you guys."
