chapter two
Wanda's POV
"Nngh!" I grunted, crashing to the floor yet again.
"I'm guessing you had no hand-to-hand combat training before this?" Black Canary asked, sauntering over to help me off the floor. I shook my head in the negative, accepting her outstretched hand. "I could tell, no offense, you need it. You might not always be able to rely on your powers to get you out of a bind."
"Noted." I swiped at her ankles with a kick which she easily blocked, knocking me back to the floor with a swift punch to my throat. Groaning, I got up on my own this time, grateful that Dinah was calling it a day for me.
"I don't want to run you too ragged your first day. We'll catch back up tomorrow, I suggest you stretch and hit the showers Wanda. Nice work." She turned to my new team who was watching me get humiliated, pointing at Artemis. "You're up next, step on up. Remember what we talked about yesterday?" I didn't hear the rest or get to see how much better Artemis was as I walked to the showers with a slight limp, my ass sore from falling on it so much.
The hot water felt nice on my skin, especially my sore muscles as I stood in the shower and let the water wash off my sweat. I yelped when the door opened, turning to see M'gann and Artemis walk in to the communal shower wrapped in towels before carelessly discarding them, stepping under their own waterfalls. The Martian spared me a glance and saw my blushing face, letting out a slight chuckle. "Oh, sorry Wanda. We should've warned you about the showers being communal. Do you want us to wait?"
I shook my head, turning back around as my face got even redder. "N-no, its fine. I was almost done." I rushed the rest of my shower, wrapping myself in my towel and rushing into the locker-esque room to get dressed. Once I was clothed, I went off on a search for my cousin.
I found him in the kitchen with the guys, training must be over with for the day. Rubbing my sore neck, I joined them around the kitchen counter catching the tail end of the story Wally was telling. "- so naturally there I was, holding her niece in one arm, a watermelon in the other while the kitchen sink is on fire trying to convince Art that everything is fine because Jade would have my head if I said otherwise."
Roy snorted, shaking his head. "My clone has a hopeless baby mama."
"You have a clone?!" I couldn't help but blurt out, staring at the ginger in shock. He turned to me and nodded, a slightly defensive glare on his face. I blushed at my lack of tact, hiding my cheeks behind my hands. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me. But that is wicked cool."
"If wicked cool is being kidnapped, put in cryosleep for three years so your clone can live your live and you can be experimented on, then yeah. Wicked cool." Roy snapped.
I shrank further into myself. "I'm sorry, I didn't know..." Gulping, I looked down at my hands as they glowed red quickly. "But I do know what it is like to be experimented on."
Dick snapped his head towards me, a look of sorrow on his face. "Is that how you and Pietro got your powers?" I shook my head, flinching at my brother's name. "How did you-"
"I'm not sure. They appeared when we were five, during the Sokovian civil war. The bombing was near our house one day and we did not have time to get to a bomb shelter, so we hid under the bed. A bomb landed not ten feet away, but did not explode. I remember it had a strange red glow around it and telling myself that Pietro and I would be safe, the bomb would not kill us. The bomb then imploded, disappearing before our eyes. Pietro says during the whole encounter, which apparently lasted two hours, I became very sweaty and my eyes glowed the same red color as the bomb. I don't quite know what happened next, I was in and out of consciousness, but I remember the wind in my hair and Pietro running us away, very fast, faster than ever. We got to the edge of the city and waited for mama and papa...but they never came." I blinked away my tears, looking Dick in the eyes. "Hydra did."
It was silent as the team, now joined by Artemis and M'gann, absorbed my words. Nobody said anything until Kaldur broke the silence. "How long were you held captive by Hydra?"
"On and off for ten years. We just escaped them thanks to...Ultron..." I shuddered, looking down in regret as I thought about my brief time helping the robot. "...About seven months ago. We would escape for months at time, sometimes even up to a year and a half at one point, but they would always find us. I eventually erased their minds of Pietro and me, so fingers crossed."
The light hearted atmosphere of the team had long disappeared and I hated that I caused that. So, thinking on my toes, I broke into a grin. "Want to have some fun?"
"What did you have in mind, Wanda?" M'gann asked with a smirk, most likely sensing I had something up my sleeve.
My grin grew wider as I flew up from my chair. "Let's go dancing."
Outside A Nightclub In Happy Harbor
Dick looked at me incredulously as the neon lights from the club sign illuminated our faces. "You do realize most of us can't get in here, right?"
I grinned, winking at the group as I turned to the bouncer, calling over my shoulder. "Let me handle that." I let the energy flow through me as I raised my hand, aiming it at the bouncer's head. I concentrated on altering the bouncer's thoughts, smirking triumphantly when his eyes flashed scarlet for a moment before returning to normal. I turned back to my new team, gesturing for them to walk by the bouncer. "After you."
"What did you do to him?" M'gann asked as we slipped by unnoticed, our senses immediately overwhelmed by the loud music and smell of alcohol.
I shrugged, twirling my hair through my fingers. "I simply made us invisible in his eyes. It is like we never entered the club." I grabbed M'gann's hand, pulling her towards the dance floor. "C'mon, lets have some fun." The others followed suit, bodies writhing and gyrating to the beat of the music as we let loose after a grueling day of training.
I think it was Roy who bought the first round of shots, thanks to me working a little magic on the bartender. After that, things got a little hazy until we got back to Mount Justice and Red Tornado was waiting to show us the video footage...
"Tornado, my man!" Dick slurred, stumbling into the cave and face planting onto a couch. "What is good?"
"Not your behavior tonight." Tornado replied sternly, waiting for all of us to come staggering in the room and plop ourselves down somewhere before he projected the footage on the wall.
"Woah, is that us? Damn, Art, you got a great ass even on video." Wally snickered, getting punched by his girlfriend. Red Tornado just sighed, pressing play on the tape.
The video started with the grainy footage of me working my mind altering magic on the bouncer outside the club before changing perspective, following us as we went into the club. The security camera zoomed in on M'gann and I as we lead the group to the dance floor, hips swaying to the music as the crowd around us adjusted to fit us in.
Somehow, most likely due to Red Tornado working his android 'magic' on the tape, the security tape could hear perfectly every word we said. Which, in a way, saved our asses.
"This was a great idea, Wanda, maybe you aren't so bad after all." Wally called to me over the loud music as I twirled M'gann on my finger like I saw people do in old movies.
"Thanks, I guess?" I chuckled, turning when I felt someone tap my shoulder. Roy was standing there with his arms crossed and his eyebrows raised. "Yes, can I help you?"
He gestured to the bar, a grin breaking out on his face. "You brought us to a club and didn't even get us any drinks? C'mon, first round is on me." I smirked, following him to the bar. When he ordered the shots, I quickly worked some mind bending on the bartender so he wouldn't question the eighteen year old buying a round of shots for underage kids. Roy shot me a grateful look and I shrugged in response, helping him carry the drinks to our team. "Shots!"
"Whoo!" We yelled in unison, downing the shots in one gulp. I spluttered shaking my head out.
"That was disgusting." I stuck my tongue out, making the others chuckle.
Dick put his arm over my shoulder, looking down at me. "It doesn't really get better with time, sorry cuz." He chuckled at my sad face. "Dance off time! Losers have to do double the shots?"
I smirked, nodding at Artemis and M'gann. "Boys versus girls? Hell yeah, you're on."
Let's just say, the girls dominated and I have never seen anyone more wasted than my cousin and Roy.
"Wanda, Wanda, Wanda. Be a dear and teleport us home?" Roy slurred, throwing himself on my back and making me stumble forward. I sighed, shoving the drunk teen off my body.
"I can't teleport, but luckily M'gann brought the bioship."
"Yeah, and if you puke in her I gut you." She glared at the hammered boys, ushering them out of the club and past the bouncer who still could not see us.
I grinned at M'gann, sending her a wink. "I like a girl with spunk, Martian."
M'gann rolled her eyes, a very faint blush on her cheeks as she groaned. "Oh, not you too."
The security footage lost us as we got on the bioship, but we had seen more than enough to be mortified, especially by Wally and Roy's dance moves. We all looked at Red Tornado through our hands, which were covering our eyes in hopes of making us disappear.
"Anyone want to explain?" Tornado demanded, turning the projection off and facing us with as stern of an expression as he could muster.
"My fault!" I yelled before anyone else could take the blame. My team looked at me in shock, most of them sobering up due to the video. I sighed, mustering up some tears as I faced Red Tornado head on. "I was depressed and grieving over my dead twin and they were merely comforting me. You see, Pietro always wanted to clubbing but he died before he got the chance and I wanted to honor his memory. I know it was irresponsible and I accept full and sole responsibility. Please do not punish any of the others, they were just being good friends and I dragged them down with me. I'm sorry and it will not happen again."
It was silent for a few beats before Red Tornado sighed, nodding. "I accept your apology, Wanda. Your punishment is twice the training and scrubbing the cave top to bottom, no magic. Understood?"
"Yes, sir." Red Tornado shot us all one last look before turning around and leaving us alone. I sighed, looking up to the ceiling and whispering under my breath in Romanian. "Lartă-mă, frate."
"You didn't have to do that, you know."
I looked over at Kaldur and shrugged. "It was my fault, you shouldn't get in trouble for my actions. I am over bringing others down with me."
"Did Pietro actually want to go clubbing?" Dick asked, a faint smile on his face as his mind danced with memories of our childhood in Europe with my brother. I didn't mean to read his mind, his thoughts were just so loud.
I shrugged again, my own smile coming onto my face as I thought of my deceased twin. "How should I know? We grew up as Hydra experiments, Dick, we didn't know much about the outside world." I laughed to ease the slight tension in the room, nodding at the boys. "But I do know one thing. If Pietro were here tonight he would've dominated with his dance moves."
*Lartă-mă, frate - Forgive me, brother
