chapter one

Wanda's POV

"Dick, she is dangerous. You saw what happened on the news in Sokovia. I'm sorry, but we can't just accept her like that." The one Dick introduced as Roy hissed at my cousin, glaring at me with his arms crossed over his chest. I don't blame him, I wouldn't trust myself immediately either.

"You don't know Wanda like I-"

"You haven't seen her in ten years, Dick. A lot can change. You know that." Wally spoke softer, seeming like he was trying to spare my feelings. As if.

"Hey, Dick, it is okay. I didn't expect to be welcomed with open arms, anyways." I tried to smile reassuringly at my cousin, placing a hand on his arm. "If I cannot stay here, I will call Natasha and Clint back. They offered to help me. It is okay, Dick, we will keep in touch."

"No, Wanda, I just got you back. You aren't going anywhere." Dick threw his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into a side hug while staring down his friends. They seemed to shrink back, the two gingers that is. I looked to the floor in embarrassment, not liking all the eyes on me. "You are family, Wanda. You are going to stay here at the manor. I will talk to Bruce."

It took me a moment to realize he meant his father figure and not the green giant who I fought along side. I smiled gratefully, squeezing his waist before pulling out of his embrace. "Is it okay if I call Clint and let him know? He worries, especially since Pietro..." Dick gave me a small smile and nod, stepping back so I could reach into my jacket pocket. I pulled out my phone, hitting speed dial and waiting for Clint to answer. He answered after the second ring.

"Who's ass do I have to kick, kiddo?"

I rolled my eyes, chuckling a bit at his protective nature. "Clint, we both know I can handle myself just fine. I am calling to let you and Nat know that I will be staying with Dick for a bit and that you can pull out of the bushes now."

"How did you - telepathy, we are still in range aren't we?"

"Yes, and please tell Natasha not to plot my cousin's friends' maiming, I am a big girl. I can handle myself." I heard Russian cursing through the speaker phone, making the two gingers in the room gulp and share a look.

"Wanda, put your cousin on the phone. I need to chat with him." Natasha's voice came through the phone, calm and collected as always. I obliged, handing the phone to a slightly paler than normal Dick. "Hello, Nightwing. Don't look so shocked, we know who all of you are, it is our job after all. I am here to tell you that if even one hair on my precious Wanda's head gets harmed, I will come after you and everything you hold dear. Do you want to know what really happened in Budapest? Try me."

"Thanks, mom, but I will be fine. Please no more threats. I will see you two later, please keep your distance and don't try to kill any of them. Bye."

"Bye kiddo."

"Bye little one."

I hung up, blushing madly as I apologized profusely to my cousin for Natasha and Clint. We barely knew each other for long and they already were very protective of me. I guess they felt guilty for what happened with my brother, though that was not their faults at all.

"Wanda, it is okay. Don't worry about it." Dick chuckled, patting my head. He tensed suddenly, looking past my shoulder at something. Or more like someone.

"You must be Wanda, Alfred told me you were here." I turned at the sound of the voice, staring at the stern face of the one and only Bruce Wayne. He came closer, extending his hand for me to presumably shake. "I'm Bruce Wayne, Dick's father."

"A pleasure to meet the man taking care of my cousin." I smiled nervously, shaking his massive hand. I pulled back, bowing my head slightly. "I hope I am not intruding with my unannounced visit. There were...complications...with my living situation."

Bruce nodded, holding up a newspaper. "I read about what happened in Sokovia." I winced. "Don't worry, Wanda, you are a hero. And a powerful one at that. If you had not lowered the city, it would have free fallen and destroyed the world."

"Stark promised know one would know...how did you find out?" I mumbled, my face on fire as the other teens watched us converse with confused expressions. I guess they only heard about Pietro and I helping Ultron for a moment, not us saving the day.

Bruce smirked, tapping the tip of his nose with his pointer finger. "I have my connections. We could use someone like you on the team." I scrunched my brows, looking at Dick for answers but Bruce answered first. "Young Justice, the proteges of the Justice League. Of course, you don't have to have a mentor in the League to be on the team. Wanda, you are destined for heroics, I can tell and I doubt you want to be around the Avengers at the moment given how raw your brother's death still is."

"How-"

"I'm the world's greatest detective. Come, let's get you settled."

I looked to Dick to see if it was okay but he shot me a smile and gave me two thumbs up before turning to his friends, leading them back the way they came.

So I followed Bruce in silence up the stairs and down a hall, stopping when he pointed to a room on his left. "This shall be your room. The one next to yours is Dick's and mine is down the hall. We can go shopping for clothes in the morning, I assume you had a long flight and must be starving?" I nodded, peaking into the massive room in front of me. Pietro would've loved this place. "Come then, I'll gather the others. We can meet the League after dinner. "

Mount Justice

The zeta tubes were a very convenient way to get around, I must admit. Stepping out, I did a 360 degree turn to get a good look at the cavern we had entered. It looked low tech compared to the Avengers helicarrier, but I knew looks could be decieving. Besides, this was for the junior team, why would they use the good technology?

"So Wanda, this is Mount Justice, the base of operations for Young Justice." Dick spoke up, approaching me with a smile on his face. "Kaldur, or Aqualad as we call him on missions, is our team leader. Black Canary is the one in charge of training, Batman gives us our missions, and Red Tornado is like our mother hen. Any questions?"

I shook my head, still trying to absorb all the new information and details around me. It barely registered in my head when the zeta tubes announced the arrival of multiple people until I heard their footsteps and voices, turning in time to see the famous Justice League standing before me. They stopped walking and talking when they noticed me, staring for a moment until Wonder Woman broke the silence. "You must be Wanda Maximoff, the savior of Sokovia. You are a brave one, young warrior."

My cheeks flushed a deep red as I bowed my head, avoiding eye contact with anyone. "I was simply cleaning up my mess. I am no savior, Wonder Woman."

"Nonsense!" The Flash cried out, zipping in front of me with his hands on his hips. "We all make mistakes, yeah, but you saved the world, Wanda! If it wasn't for you, we would all be dead."

"Stark did all of the work..." I mumbled, feeling extremely uncomfortable. Batman sighed, walking over to the computer and typing for a moment before a video popped up. My eyes widened when I realized it was a video of what happened in Sokovia, starting from when Pietro and I were with the Avengers in the crumbled church.

"Any idea on how to stop your robot child, Stark?" Clint called to Iron Man, shooting an exploding arrow at an approaching Ultron.

"Yeah, destroy all of them." Pietro snorted, zipping up the wall and propelling himself onto the back of an Ultron, snapping the neck and disabling it.

"Pietro, you and Romanoff work on getting the civilians out of here. Clint, eyes on the sky. Tony, do your thing. Wanda, take out as many as you can and Thor, just like we practiced." Captain America barked out the orders, nodding when we all split off to complete our duties.

I stayed in the church, using my connection with Ultron to sense him in his multiple forms before crushing him to oblivion with my powers. I continued like this, occasionally using my telepathy to check in on the others to see if they needed assistance.

That's when I felt it. The snap. The disconnect from my brother, the one connection I could always feel was gone.

I reached into everyone else's minds until I found out what happened through Clint, seeing my brother's bloody body on the dusty ground.

I collapsed, destroying the remaining Ultrons with the surge of power I let out with my scream of agony. Except for one. Flying to the train, I ignored the blubbering robot and tore his heart out, crushing it in my hand.

Everything else was a blur, up until Cap asked me to lower the city. I concentrated, feeling my eyes turn a dark scarlet as my power flowed through my body. The city glowed the same color as it began its slow decline to earth, my body becoming weaker the longer it took. Sweat dripped down my forehead but I could not wipe it away, I had to focus on my task.

"Stark, Maximoff needs some help."

"On it." Iron Man sent out some of his bots to help lower the city when it was about a mile off the ground, coming up to me himself when the city was safely grounded. He crouched beside my shaking form, putting a hand on my shoulder. "You did good, kid. Take a break, don't push yourself too hard." He hesitated before hugging me awkwardly, patting my head. "I'm sorry about your brother, he seemed like a good kid."

"He was the best."

The video ended and Batman turned to see my pale face, cocking a brow. "Iron Man did all the work, eh?"

"H-how did you get that footage?"

Batman smirked, pulling the video off the screen and walking around the computer back to the group. "I told you, I have connections. Tony Stark just happens to be a distant cousin a few times removed."

I snorted, shaking the tears out of my eyes before they could fall. "Of course he is. Well, what was your reasoning behind showing everyone the battle of Sokovia?"

Batman laughed, which was a creepy sight, before answering my question. "To prove to everyone here that you deserve to be on this team." He looked back at the Justice League, all of whom were nodding, before looking at me again. "You start training tomorrow. Congratulations, Scarlet Witch, and welcome to Young Justice."
