chapter eleven
Dick's POV
"I'm worried about Pietro." I looked up at Kaldur's words, not surprised I didn't hear the Atlantean enter. He can be silent when he wants to be. I raised an eyebrow, hinting that I wanted Kaldur to continue with his troubles. "He has not left Wanda's side since the day he trained with us. That was a week ago."
"And we haven't heard a peep out of the Light. I don't like this. Not one bit." Artemis chimed in from her perch on the counter, her legs swinging carelessly. "They are definitely planning something. Something big."
"Yeah, but what?" Wally asked through a mouthful of popcorn, earning himself a few disgusted looks from the rest of us.
I was too deep in thought to hear the petty argument between Artemis and Wally, trying to come up with a way to wake Wanda up. Then it hit me. "M'gann! Have you tried to wake her using your telepathy?"
The Martian sent me an exasperated glare. "No, I never thought of that. What a great idea, Dick." Conner snorted in shock at the sass emitting from his girlfriend, hiding it poorly behind a cough. M'gann sent him a smile. "I have been trying to reach her since she went into her coma and have gotten nothing."
"Yes, but what if we used the same technology that the Justice League used on us during that team bonding mission where we 'shared a mind'? We could all try to reach Wanda and pull her back to the conscious world!" I snapped my fingers, hope basically pouring into my words. My teammates were silent as they thought about, Jason being the one to agree first.
"I wasn't there when y'all did that the first time, but it sounds like it is worth a shot?"
Roy was next. "I have been absent the past few weeks, but I'm here now and I'm all for getting our Wanda back."
The others nodded in agreement, settling the matter. Now all we had to do was convince the Justice League and Pietro.

"You want to try what?" Pietro's jaw was on the floor, staring at our teammates and Zatanna, who volunteered to monitor the mission.
"We want to try to enter Wanda's mind and pull her back to consciousness." I explained, taking a seat next to my cousins. "What do you say? She is your sister, after all."
Pietro was silent for a few moments, glaring at the ground. He eventually looked up, steely determination in his silver eyes. "I'm in, but only if I get to go."
I smirked. "We wouldn't have it any other way, cuz."
Pietro grinned, squeezing Wanda's hand. "How will this work? Do we just hook a few machines up to ourselves and Wanda and then bam! We're in?"
Zatanna stepped forward. "Close, but not exactly. I will place a helmet on Wanda to set her up as the focal point of the machine and then when the rest of you are all wired in, I will hit a few buttons on the monitor to send you into her mind. M'gann will send me a telepathic message to let me know when to draw you lot out."
Pietro blinked at her. "That is basically what I just said." He smirked, standing up with a big stretch of his arms over his head. "Alrighty, lets get this show on the road."
"Right. Follow me." Zatanna led us out of Wanda's room and down the corridor to a room we had already prepared for the mission. We each took a seat on one of the cots that we laid out, laying down and waiting for Z to come around to hook us up. Zatanna made quick work of attaching the electrodes to our heads, pausing at the doorway when she was done. "I'm just going to place this helmet on Wanda and then we should be good to go."
It was tense while we waited for our resident magician to return. I decided to try and lighten the mood. "Hey, M'gann? Try not to kill us all this time."
I heard M'gann snort before she sharply replied, her voice dripping in sarcasm. "Damn, there goes my plan."
We all laughed, the tension easing slightly as Zatanna entered the room once more and took up the position at the computer. "Alright, helmets on Wanda and everyone is properly hooked up. Anyone want to bail now before its too late?" Nobody said a word. "Good. Commencing operation Get Wanda Out Of Her Coma So Pietro Will Shower in three...two...one!"
I felt a flood of electricity in my brain, not a painful amount, more like a static shock, before everything went white...
Wanda's Mind
When I blinked my eyes open I had to rub them to make sure I was seeing clearly and my brain wasn't playing tricks on me because what I saw was Sokovia, before the civil war broke out. Sokovia from my childhood, when I would visit my aunt and uncle and cousins.
I looked around for my teammates, finding them all 'waking up' next to me with the same confused expressions on their faces. I made eye contact with Pietro. "Are you seeing this to?" He nodded silently, taking the scenery in with an awed expression.
"Seeing what? Where are we?" Artemis asked, instinctively reaching for her bow and arrows.
"Sokovia, before Ultron, before the war...when it was our home." Pietro choked out, eyes narrowing as he looked at a distant hill. "Dick, look. Isn't that-?"
"Us?" I asked more than confirmed, following my cousin's line of sight. Sure enough running over the top of the hill were two small boys, no older than four and five years old, respectively. The dark haired one tackled the silver haired one and they went flying down the hill in a tumble of limbs and giggles. When they got to the bottom, I could see their faces better and they were definitely childhood versions of Pietro and I.
"Those two are you two? As children?" Wally questioned, looking between my younger self and me. I nodded. "I thought you grew up in the circus?"
"I did, but I visited my cousins often during the European tour, before we settled in America." I explained, still mesmerized by the scene before me. Young Pietro had untangled himself from Young Me and was running away again, a smirk of determination on his pale face. "I remember this day, it was my fifth birthday. We came to celebrate with Wanda and you because we hadn't been home in a long time."
"That's right!" Pietro's expression softened, a light chuckle coming from him as he watched Young Me chase after Young Pietro. "We wanted to play tag before we did presents, and if I remember correctly that means our parents sent -"
"What are you guys doing here?" I jumped at the small voice that came from behind me, whipping around to see a four year old Wanda standing there with a look of fear on her tanned face.
"Whoa, Wanda, is that you?" Roy asked, eyes wide under his mask. The little girl nodded, the look of fear only growing as she saw the weapons on my teammates' persons.
"Are you here to kill me?" She asked in her small voice, a strange calmness to it. "If you are, please don't let Dickie or brother find my body, it would upset them greatly."
"What? No, we are not going to kill you. We are here to take you home, Wanda." M'gann crouched next to the young sorceress, putting her hand out for Wanda to take. "Do you want to go home?"
Wanda just stared at M'gann's hand before backing up ever-so-slightly. "I am home. You shouldn't be here. It isn't safe, not for you or me."
Pietro looked crushed. "What are you talking about sister? What isn't safe?" Wanda just shook her head. "How can we help if we -"
"You can't help! No one can! Now go, before she finds us." Wanda snapped, sounding a lot more commanding than her four years of age. "Leave before she hurts you. Before I hurt you."
I knelt next to Wanda, taking her hands in my own. "Listen to me Wanda. You could never hurt us. Just tell us what is going on so we -"
"No! Liar!" She screeched, shoving me away from her with a surprising amount of force. "I hurt all of you at the HQ, just leave me be before she finds you."
"Now that is the third time you have mentioned 'her'. Who is 'she'?" Kaldur asked, staying where he was and not approaching the shaking little girl.
Wanda glowered at us before glaring down at her hands in disgust. "The Scarlet Witch." She spat before turning on her heels and running off, fading away the further she got from us.
The team was silent for a moment, taking in what just happened with the young child. Conner was the first one to talk, asking, rightfully so, what in the world just happened.
"I'm not sure, but I'm afraid we may have more work cut out for us than we thought." Roy mumbled, still staring where Wanda disappeared, a thoughtful expression on his face. "A lot more work."
"Should we split up and look for her or stick together?" Jason asked, stretching his arms on his bo staff.
"Split up in two teams. M'gann, set up a mind link." Kaldur commanded, looking over the group. "The first group will be Pietro, Roy, Conner, and M'gann. The second will be Dick, Jason, Artemis, Wally, and myself. If her mind is molded after Sokovia then we need guides in each group that know the land."
"Roger that. Recommencing operation Get Wanda Out Of Her Coma So Pietro Will Shower." I stifled a chuckle as Pietro punched Wally's arm.
"Shut up, I don't smell that bad, do I?"
