Listen to your daughter, dickwad

Christelightlavo wanted fem Dick so let's go with Rikki because CLEO GET OUT OF THE WATER-

This would be the last patrol before Rikki's wedding and she had a burning question that needed to be asked. Of course, she had to wait until the last minute because she was so nervous about the answer she'd get. She didn't know if this was overstepping boundaries. Not after the years of not speaking to one another and the animosity when they finally did. Wally assured her that it wasn't that deep and she just needed to ask but she wasn't sure. With a kiss of good luck from her soon to be husband, Nightwing set out for the streets of Gotham with one question. Will you give me away?

Nightwing met Batman on top of a rooftop in the heart of Gotham. She sat on the edge kicking her legs as she waited for him to choose the best case to begin with. "So uhm B, I have a question about...about the wedding," she began nervously. He hummed, clearly disinterested in it for the time being. Maybe this wasn't the best of ideas. Someone else could do it. Clark would love to do it. He'd always thought of his niece as a daughter in some way but that didn't feel right. He hadn't raised her as Batman had. "I already have everything sorted so you don't need to ask about anything," he responded dismissively.

"Well, not everything is sorted. There's still an issue of-" She was cut off by the sound of a canister hitting the floor followed by a loud hiss. She jumped up and her eyes darted to the sound as she began to cough. Something was stinging her nose and throat, tempting her to escape to a blissful sleep to avoid the pain. "Bats?" she mumbled, a weak attempt to call for him. He was slumping to the floor along with her. With tired eyes, she supposed if he could give in, she could too. She collapsed and fell into a dreamless unconscious.

It was silent when Nightwing woke up which was her first sign they were in trouble. The city was never silent. It was loud and bustling, alive with so many people going about their lives. This place was much too quiet. She lifted her head up and tilted her neck to one side to crack it. She must've had it hanging like that for a while. She shuffled. Her arms were tied with a thick rope and she was pressed up against a wooden chair. She moved again. Correction, a creaky wooden chair. Perfect. Nightwing glanced around to get an idea of her surroundings. They were in a storage room judging by the number of crates. Crates owned by a tea company. Or was that just a cover? There was no smell in the room she could discern that would be the tell so it was something sinister that couldn't be smelt. Interesting. In front of her sat her's and her mentor's utility belts which was a massive mistake on their kidnapper's part. Once she was freed, she could get them easily. Beside her sat Batman who groaned upon coming too. He was in the same position but when he shuffled his chair didn't creak. Good to know. The room wasn't that big and there was a large fluorescent light above their heads. A dirty yellow light. So this place didn't have much money funnelled into it. A lowly gang perhaps? Someone who caught them at the perfect time. Oh, they were in for a right treat. "How're you feeling Batsy?" she asked, her tone light and carefree. He seemed to notice that and sent her an odd look.

"Fine. You?"

"Great. Though I don't doubt there'll be a headache soon. You wanna get outta here or do you wanna mess with our captors?" she inquired. His odd look deepened.

"What on earth are you planning?"

"A little trick that's all." He hummed sceptically. "What? I'm a circus girl. Of course I have a little trick."

Although her ankles were tied to the chair, her feet still touched the ground. Massive mistake on their part but it might be their first time tying someone up. She rocked back and forth until she could stand on her feet. "What are you doing?" Batman asked, confused.

"Getting some new bruises," she answered. Before she could be asked to clarify, she thrust herself back. She fell to the ground and the creaky chair exploded into small bits. The ropes around her limbs loosened and she was able to wiggle out of them. "Your fiance is going to have my head for that," Batman stated grimly.

"Got me out, didn't it? Creaky chairs = escape plan," she replied. She got to her feet and cracked her back. Hopefully, the bed at the hotel would be nice. Or she could just find another way. They were inventive. She strolled over to the belts and picked them up, retrieving a pocket knife to cut through the ropes her mentor was still stuck in. "It did. I'll get you some painkillers for tomorrow."

"About tomorrow-"

"Let's not discuss it here. Someone could be listening. Let's figure out where we are."

"But-"

"Not here." Nightwing huffed at him but conceded. She could ask him later. She passed him his belt before going over to the exit. The doors were metal and had a small square window. She peeked through and found six men sitting at a poker table. They were speaking to one another but she couldn't hear. From her basic lip-reading skills, they were talking about selling "them." She guessed the "them" was her and Batman. Not the worst plan but not the best. She supposed they were in need of money. "How many?" Batman asked as he prepared himself.

"Six. Guns are on the table but so is alcohol so I wouldn't trust their marksmanship," she answered. "I suggest we go in with a smoke bomb immediately. Whilst they panic, we take them down. Easy peasy."

"You seem rather confident," he commented with a ghost of a smile.

"When aren't I?"

"You guys feel kinda bad about selling the chick? Ain't she engaged or summit?" one of them asked.

"If she didn't wanna risk this, then she shouldn't have come out. Ain't our fault we took our chance," another responded. He glanced down to his cards and took a swig of the whiskey beside him. "I'm out." The doors to where they were keeping the heroes burst open and the pair stood proudly.

"Then count me in," Nightwing stated. The gang members went to snatch their guns up from the table only to be affronted by smoke. They frantically tried to shoot into the grey mist that hung over them but it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. If they managed to hit any of the heroes it was purely through luck. "B, since this isn't that hard," Nightwing announced as she dodged a bullet with a flip. "Can we talk about tomorrow?"

"Not now," he told her but she wasn't one for quitting. The adrenaline of the fight was begging for her to continue.

"Yes now! I wanna ask you-"

"We're using smoke to hide where we are. You talking is proving the smoke useless," he snapped. She groaned frustratedly. "Don't act like that with me young lady."

"Oh, whatcha gonna do? Ground me?"

"Just be quiet for five minutes." She muttered a slew of swears but stayed quiet after that. If he was mad when she asked the all-important question then he might say no out of spite.

Now that everyone was tied up, she decided to try again with her question. "Now B, about the wedding," she began.

"This isn't the time to fret about it. Everything is handled," Batman told her. She didn't know if he had meant to sound so patronising but that didn't cap her temper. She'd been trying to get through to him all night and he kept shutting her down. It was pissing her off. "You know what? Forget it! I'll ask someone who gives me the time of day to do it," she snapped. "Enjoy your night. I'm going home." Nightwing scowled at him and walked off, her boots hitting the floor just that bit harder. Batman looked to her worriedly but didn't call out for her. He knew better to tempt her outbursts. He sighed and ran a hand down his face. Maybe she was just acting up because the wedding was tomorrow. "You kinda suck at parenting don't you?" a gang member stated. He looked down to him with a glare.

"You don't know anything."

"Actually I do. I have two girls at home, my eldest is around her age. If one of my girls got so upset she needed to leave, I'd go after her. Especially if it was about such a big day in her life," he lectured.

"You're a criminal."

"And I'm a father first. I'm in this gang for them. You're a pain in my ass, yeah, but you're a father first too." The hero remained silent and stared at the exit. "She's upset. Go after her and listen to your daughter, dickwad."

"I have to wait for the police. I suggest you keep your advice to yourself for the duration of the wait."

Wally wasn't expecting his soon to be wife to come home so early but by the look on her face, he knew she needed to. He sighed upon seeing her frown and opened his arms. She trudged over and fell into them, snuggling up to him. "What happened, babe?"

"Bruce being Bruce. He just wouldn't listen so I said fuck it and came home," she responded. "Tati would've walked me down the aisle."

"You wanted me to walk you down the aisle?" a gruff voice asked. The pair jumped apart and looked to the window where Batman was crouched.

"What are you doing here?" Rikki snapped.

"I upset my daughter. Couldn't have you go to bed unhappy," he explained. "Y-you really wanted me to give you away." She nodded. "I'd love to. If you'll still let me-" he was cut off by a tight hug from his daughter. He chuckled lowly and hugged her back.

"Of course I will jackass."
