Of Horseback Rides and Hot Cocoa
Dick's POV:
"Come on guys, let's go to the stable today!" I said cheerily.
I was met with groans.
"Oh, come on. I promise you guys, if we go, Alfred will make cookies and hot cocoa."
"I'm sold!" Tim said happily.
"Now wait just a minute," Alfred said. "Do you boys really think I have no life?"
We all fell silent.
Alfred nodded. "That's what I thought. I'm going to the grocery store today." he said before walking away.
"O-kayyyyyy... Well, I'll take you guys to the store and get Chip's Ahoy and Keurig K-Cup hot cocoa."
"We're banned from Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, remember?" Jason said.
"Um...We'll go to...uh... Aldi." I fumbled.
"Whatever," Jason said.
"I'm holding you to that, Grayson!" Hissed Damian.
"I just want cookies," Tim said.
"Assholes," I muttered under my breath.
But no one heard it but me.
Jason's POV:
I hadn't been to the barn in...two years?
After my horse died, I didn't really wanna go.
Not to mention, I just didn't feel like going. I mean, I have better things to do...like...uh...?
Stuff, I guess.
Not to mention, it was freaking snowing! Why does Dick pick the worst days to do stuff outside?
"Damn Gotham weather," I muttered.
"WHO WOULD EVER VOLUNTARILY LIVE ON THE EAST COAST?!" Damian added.
"Beats the f-" I started to say, but Dick slapped me on my neck.
"Beats the, ahem, heck, outta me." I rolled my eyes.
Tim's POV:
We all piled in the car.
"So, how come you've never taken me to the barn?" I asked Dick.
Dick didn't say anything.
"You like Damian better, don't you?" I challenged.
"Timmy, you never seemed interested. I figured now would be a good time considering Damian's never seen a horse in person."
"Neither have I!" I hissed.
Damian perked up.
"Well, Isn't it obvious, Timothy? I am obviously his favorite brother." He said with that perpetually prissy tone.
"Replacement." I hissed.
"Wannabe." Damian hissed.
Dick's POV:
We finally made it to the barn.
"So," I said, leading Tim and Damian in.
"This is the barn. This is my horse, Honey," I said, gesturing to my blonde Palomino.
She clicked her lips, making Tim jump.
"Relax," I laughed.
"Now-" I started.
"DIBS ON THE HUGE BLACK ONE!" Jason said, running up to the stable that held the Black Clydesdale.
"I'd be careful if I were you, Jason." I warned. "That horse is very aggressive... He's a rough one," I said, but Jason was already petting it.
Surprisingly, the horse was calm- calmer than I had ever seen him.
"I'm gonna name him Nightmare." Jason said proudly.
"Anyways," I said.
"These are the last three. There's a Highland Pony, an Appaloosa horse, and an Arabian horse."
"Ponies are for girls!" Tim said, turning up his nose.
So, Tim took the brown-and-white Appaloosa, and Damian took the white Arabian.
Jason was busy taming his horse or whatever, and I was teaching Tim and Damian how to ride a horse.
Things went [shockingly] smoothly, and then we decided to go out to the field and ride together.
"How's it coming along, Jason?" I asked.
"It's um- going- oof!" Jason said as his horse bucked him off.
"You okay?" I asked.
Jason groaned, but gave a thumbs up.
"It's a work in progress," he said weakly.
The three of us, minus Jason went into the field.
"So what have you guys decided to name your horses?" I asked Tim and Dami.
"I named mine Frostbite!" Damian said proudly.
"And I named mine Sparky!" Tim added.
We rode into the field and walked.
"Honestly, this is pretty relaxing." Tim said.
I was happy my brothers enjoyed this as much as I did.
"Timothy! Let's race!" Damian said.
"Wait-guys, don't-" I said, but they were already around the corner.
I made Honey canter past the corner, and I saw both of the horses running ahead.
But then both of the horses halted to a stop when they came across a corner, and Tim and Damian fell off the horses in the ditch.
I commanded Honey to stop and ran over to them.
"You guys okay?" I asked, worriedly.
Tim responded with a groan, but Damian simply sighed.
"You will leave me now," Damian said sadly.
"What? No I won't! Here, let me help you out."
Damian shook his head. "I am useless, I can't fight."
"Damian," I started. "That's not how it works in a family. Now c'mon." I said, pulling him and Tim up.
Damian hissed in pain as I stood him up.
"I think my leg's broken." He said. "Leave me," he added.
"I'm not going anywhere," I assured him.
-Break-
"And so that's how we ended up in the emergency room," I explained to Bruce.
Bruce sighed. "I told you not to bring them to the barn without my supervision."
"Sorry," I said.
"So is anyone else hurt?" Bruce asked.
"Tim sprained his ankle and broke his elbow," I recounted.
"And Jason's got bad frostbite." I added.
Bruce cocked an eyebrow. "How'd he get frostbite?"
"His horse kept bucking him off of him." I explained.
"That horse is a bigger asshole than Jason himself." I added with a glint in my eye.
"An impressive feat," Bruce said with a light chuckle.
Bruce shook his head. "What is it with that boy and aggressive animals?"
"Maybe he finds a kindred spirit in them," I shrugged.
"Anyway, as long as everything's okay, they can come home in a few hours." I told Bruce.
"I promised them cookies and hot cocoa," I added with a yawn.
Today was exhausting. I just wanted my cookies at this point.
Tim's POV:
"Thanks for the cookies, Alfred." I said as Alfred handed me a plate with a few chocolate chip cookies.
I was sitting to left of Bruce and Damian was sitting to the right. Bruce was in the middle with us.
"So what did you do at the barn today?" Bruce asked me and Damian. "Besides the obvious,"
"Um, Damian and I raced..."
"And I would have won!" Damian interjected.
I rolled my eyes.
We explained our day and towards the end of the story, "Timothy, look," Damian whispered. Bruce was falling asleep.
"Let's try that thing on T.V. where you whisper something to someone and they do it!" Damian explained [poorly].
I crawled up closer to Bruce.
"You're gonna take us to Disney World when we get better," I whispered.
Damian leaned over and whispered on the other side.
"You will take us to Disney World when our bones heal," Damian whispered.
"Mm, Disney..." Bruce muttered.
We both grinned at each other.
My eyes started to get heavy.
I settled up against Bruce, when I heard a loud crash.
Bruce's POV:
I was asleep when I heard a loud crash, followed by arguing.
Sighing, I went upstairs to investigate the noise.
There was a broken, hot chocolate soaked mug on the floor.
"JASON DID IT!" Dick yelled.
"Nuh-uh! You pushed me!" Jason yelled.
"No I didn't! Your fatass got in the way!" Dick defended.
"It's not fat! It's muscle, you idiot!" Jason said hotly.
I groaned.
I should have stopped at one.
Maybe I should take take them to Disney, though.
A/N:
