I slowly open my eyes to see the sun shine through the window. Today is the day I'm teaching Aurei to shoot. Aurei is still asleep, I quietly check the cylinder with all the bullets inside....why am I checking? She hasn't even used a gun before...

"Hey, if you and your sister are ready, we could use some help at the fence today." Laurie said with a small grin.

"Sure, I'm teaching her how to use a gun anyway." I said. Laurie frowns.

"What's the matter?" I ask, getting up from the chair, my neck aching from that uncomfortable position I slept in last night. She shakes her head. Aurei sits up in the bed, rubbing her eyes and turning to face us.

"What's going on?" Aurei asks, Laurie frowns as Aurei climbs out of bed. Laurie shakes her head.

"It's just..." Laurie shakes her head.

Aurei walks up to her, raising her eyebrows.

"What?" Aurei asks politely. Laurie shakes her head, biting her lip. I cross my arms and narrow my eyes at her. Laurie sighs, giving me a suspicious look.

"She's too young....and she just got shot...." Laurie confessed.

"That isn't your decision to make." Aurei said, narrowing her eyes at Laurie.

"I'd rather have her learn how to learn to use a gun even if she's safe without one than to have her get into a situation when she actually does." I said, Laurie nods slowly.

"I know...it's just...nevermind." Laurie said quickly, closing her eyes. I squeeze Laurie's shoulder. She had a past too, she had to put down her own son....and that's every mother's nightmare in the apocalypse.

"I just hate it when people decide things that I want to decide on my own..." Aurei said, hanging her head low.

Laurie nods then walks out of the room.

"Get dressed, then meet me outside when you're done, make sure you have your gun with you." I said before walking out of the room, closing the door softly. Connor walks up to me with a assault rifle.

"Do you want to keep watch? James used to keep watch of the fence....but now we need as many people up watching the gates as possible." Connor said, passing me the assault rifle. I nod.

"About knocking Elise out..." Connor said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Does she have any hard feelings?" I ask. Connor shakes his head.

"No...she's just heavily emotional, her husband found out she went on the run behind his back after she had a breakdown this morning...I don't blame you for knocking her out, if she kept screaming then we would have to leave her or die altogether." Connor said, cracking his knuckles.

I follow Connor down the hall, the patients gave us looks. Sometimes I wonder if it was this quiet. But everyone has their problems. I grin at a little girl who sat besise the door to one of the rooms, she smiles back with a small shy wave. As we reach the main desk I see Liam nod his head at us.

Connor opens the door to reveal some people at the gates. I look around to see the undead pressing their faces against the fence, opening their mouths as if they were about to bite someone.

"I'm teaching my little sister how to shoot today." I said, resting the rifle against the wall.

"Avery?" Aurei calls my name.

I turn around to see her holding her revolver in her hand, she walks over to me, nodding her head.

"Okay....how do I start?" Aurei asks, pointing the gun at one of the undead.

"You don't have to hold the gun that close to your face, you need to be able to see who you're shooting at." I said, remembering Dad's lessons he taught me when I learned how to use a gun the right way.

"Next?" Aurei asks calmly.

"Keep in mind, if you intend to shoot someone. Mean it. If not, make sure your finger isn't on the trigger...in this case, if you're really going to shoot, keep your finger on the trigger." I instruct, Aurei's eyes focus on the roamer that had it's mouth open against the fence, the stained blood down its neck.

"Okay." Aurei said.

"Take a deep breath." I said calmly.

Aurei takes a relaxed breath, she knows she couldn't handle taking deep gusts of air at once. She pulls the trigger, only missing her main target, killing the roamer next to the one she meant to shoot.

"Try again." I said, Aurei nods then makes another shot, getting the roamer clean through the head, as the roamer falls, the other roamer does too.

"Two roamers, you're a good shot Aurei." I said with a small grin.

Aurei turns to the left, shooting another roamer by the head. She learned better than I did with learning how to use a gun.

"Keep in mind, don't waste your bullets when there are only few of these things, use something sharp if you don't want anything or anyone hear you kill a roamer." I said.

Aurei unloads the gun, putting the bullets into her pocket then she looks up at me.

"Thanks for teaching me Avery." Aurei said with a friendly grin. I nod silentlym grabbing the assault rifle that laid against the wall then gazed out at the roamers.

Aurei goes back inside and I just walk up beside Connor.

"Hey....what's your story?" Connor asks.

"What do you mean?" I ask...although I know exactly what he meant.

"You didn't hesitate when you knocked Elise out....is that something you do?" Connor asks, raising his eyebrows.

"No. But if she kept screaming, she would've gotten us all killed....I've dealt with worser liabilities like her before...." I said coldly.

"I get it-" Connor tries to say but a gunshot immediately rings my ears, I see Connor falling onto the ground and the blood beginning to pool through his head.

A van stops in front of the gate, and they kept shooting. I shot at the car, enough to start shattering the windows, the other peoplr join me and kept shooting at the van as it drives out of our view.

"Avery!" Laurie yells my name over the loud gunshots, I run towards her, her eyes water as she takes a glimpse at Connor's dead body and the bullethole was clean through.

"Please....just go watch Elise for me, I need to take care of Connor." Laurie said over the gunshots, part of me wanted to stay and fight...they know where we are so there are great chances that they'll come back soon.

I run past the desk, down the hall no further than our room to hear screaming, and muffled voices, Aurei walks behind me with her eyes wide.

"What happened?!" She asks, seeing other nurses carrying bodies across the halls with patients panicking and running down the hall screaming.

I kick open the door to see a man punch Elise in the face.

"You take me for a joke!" He yells angrily, I walk up to the man, ripping him away from Elise.

"I don't love you anymore Drew! I realized that a long time ago" Elise yells, wiping the blood from her mouth.

The man turns around, slapping me in the face, the stinging sensation spreading all over my cheek, I shove him on the bed as a warning for him to stop. He stands up.

"You think you're so fucking strong, like you're tough shit don't you?" He asks, I glare at the sexist bastard that stood before me. I wasn't like the girl who could beat every man like in those action movies, I'm the type to try and grab something to defend myself or shove you away to warn you.

"I'm gonna beat your fucking face in." He growls, he gets up, punching me in the stomach, I stagger to the side but I punch in the face, he falls on top of me, his weight becomes unbearable by the second. His hands wrap around my neck, strangling me.

"Drew stop!" I hear Elise yell, I manage to grab his neck, choking him the same way, I reach for the scapel that got spilled but he brushes them away, everything is so fast.

Then I hear it. Another gunshot, but this one was closer, the man stops moving then falls on top of me, the warm blood goes onto my stomach. I push him off of me to see Elise looking at Aurei with wide eyes.

Aurei held the gun in both hands, she lowers the gun.

Aurei shot Drew. Clean in the head....but I'm not mad....I'm upset that I put her in that position to.

"I'm sorry...." She said, but she closes her eyes.

"Don't be....he would've killed me....I'm sorry that you had to do that." I said, pulling her into a hug.

"No...Drew had this comin' he forced himself on me....he killed Vincent....and I've kept it a secret for weeks....he killed him because Vincent found out that Drew was hitting me....he was a asshole." Elise said between angry sobs.

"What else did he do?" I ask.

"He molested that little girl....he said if I told Mayfield that he would kill me." Elise said, wiping the tears from her eyes.

Aurei nods slowly, then she scowls at the man's body. Aurei didn't hesitate. I'm not saying she's a killer, this man was a sick, heartless pedophile. But I hope Aurei doesn't turn hollow....she's still a child deep down...

But now she's seeing this man for what he is...
