Chapter Twenty-Six - The Bees
"Clever bastard." Elizabeth smirked, weighing the vial up in her hands.
"Annoying bastard." Dean commented, causing the Vampire to roll her eyes.
"No, I mean he gave this to me on purpose." Elizabeth huffed, holding up the vial. She looked around, seeing nothing but confused faces, so decided to elaborate. "Crowley and I have been in a lot of fights together over the last century and a half. Both on the same sides and opposites. So... He knows I know what his blood smells like. He was just pissing you about to lead you on. He knows that one sniff of this, I can tell you if it's really his blood or not."
"So what are you waiting for? Get a whiff." Dean beckoned.
The room went quiet as Elizabeth removed the top from the vial and inhaled deeply. She smiled at the result.
"It's his, alright. I'd know the smell of his Craig Scotch anywhere." She chuckled, putting the top back on and handing it to Sam.
"Great. So now that's settled, we can get on with making the weapon, yeah?" Dean looked around the room.
Sam nodded.
"Yeah."
"Well, one thing's for sure." Dean sighed. "We only got one shot. This thing don't reload." He held the vial of Crowley's blood.
After Meg and Cas had left, the remaining trio had gathered round the coffee table in the living area, which had on it a small bowl, the large copper bowl from Crowley's summoning spell, a big, shallow bowl with Sister Mary Constant's bone in it, a small jar of blood and two white candles.
Dean passed the vial to Sam, who poured its contents into the smaller of the three bowls.
"So do we, uh..." Sam trailed off, lifting the bowl.
"There's no magic words - nothing. You just go." Dean shrugged.
"Alright then..." Sam took a short but heavy breath, pouring the contents of the smaller bowl over the nun's bone.
Dean looked around, ominously, obviously expecting something to happen that was outside of the bowl. After placing the now empty bowl of blood down, Sam did the same. Elizabeth just gazed at the blood-soaked bone.
"Where's all the thunder and lightning?" Dean asked.
"Uh... Maybe it worked." Sam said.
"There's only one way we're gunna find out." Elizabeth cocked an eyebrow, folding her arms across her chest.
"Awesome..." Dean sighed.
Cas appeared behind the older brother, making them jump out of their skin. He looked among the trio with a slightly gormless smile on his face. Elizabeth looked down, spying two sandwiches on blue plates in his hand.
"So, none of this should cause you any ill effect. I went to a little farm in Normandy for the wheat and the lettuce and tomato, and I thoroughly examined and comforted the pig before I... Slaughtered it for the ham." He said, handing the brothers the food. "Here. You need your strength."
He then reached into his pocket and grabbed a fast food cup, handing it to Elizabeth.
She opened up the lid, revealing blood. She stirred it a bit with the straw, sniffing it.
"Do I even want to know where you got this?" She asked.
"I found a man walking towards a blood bank in England. He's a raw diet vegan. We got into a rather lengthy conversation about it, which is why I took so long to get back - my apologies for that, by the way. But he thought, with the scrubs and all, I was his doctor when I followed him inside the bank, so he was more than happy to give me a couple of blood bag's worth." Cas replied, motioning to the white psych ward scrubs he was wearing under his trench coat before retrieving a blood bag from his other pocket. "I know how Dean gets funny when you drink straight from the bag in front of him, so I thought I'd grab you a to-go cup."
Elizabeth frowned, looking between the two brothers, who shrugged.
"Thanks, Pigeon. I think I might like the screw loose version of you the best."
"Yeah... Thanks Cas." Dean frowned.
"Hey Cas, why was Crowley so certain that you needed to come with us?" Sam asked.
"Crowley's wrong." The Angel replied a little too quickly. "I'll be waiting right here. But please, accept this sandwich as a gesture of solidarity."
Sam frowned, giving a small sigh as he took the sandwich from the Angel.
"So, Pigeon. I've got to ask..." Elizabeth spoke after finishing a mouthful of her blood, sitting forward on the couch. "Do you like the new you?
Cas frowned, thinking over his answer.
"I can't say I've really thought about it." He replied.
"What do you think about?" Elizabeth smirked.
"I think about bees a lot..." Cas' thoughtful face turned into a pure, innocent smile. "They're like brightly coloured sheep with wings that defy the laws of physics. Not to mention, life on Earth wouldn't be the same without them. It's amazing to me, how important to the ecosystem they are."
"I see..." Elizabeth nodded her head slowly, staring off into the distance, somewhat sorry she'd asked.
"Damn, Cas. That might've been the best sandwich I've ever had." Dean said as he chewed through his last mouthful.
"Definitely the freshest." Elizabeth cocked an eyebrow. "Though, I suppose you can never really know what goes into your food unless you prepare it yourself."
"Exactly my thoughts, Elizabeth." Cas smiled. "I was stood in the store for ages wondering what I was going to get for them when I just thought 'hey, why don't I just do it myself?'"
"Think I'm gunna save that other blood bag for when we make our move on Dick. It's getting late anyway. We should probably head to bed." Elizabeth sighed, getting up.
"You're right. I'll watch over you just in case." Cas agreed, getting up with a smile that could be misconstrued for hopeful.
Elizabeth paused her actions mid-movement, her eyes darting around the dimly lit cabin in mild shock and confusion.
"Okay." She simply said, continuing with her movements towards the bed to grab some night clothes.
Once changed into a simple, black cotton floor length night dress, she vacated the bathroom, where Cas was waiting, creepily close to the door.
"Hi..." Elizabeth frowned.
"Hello." The Angel spoke in his usual deep, gravelly voice.
"Can I help you?" She cocked an eyebrow.
Cas paused, clearly putting a lot of thought into his answer.
"No." He finally said.
Elizabeth nodded, moving around him towards the bed.
"You're crazy and you have no concept of personal space, you know that?" She smirked.
"That seems to be a running theme." Dean commented.
Cas mused for a moment. "How can I be crazy when I speak for such exceptional creatures like bees?"
Elizabeth smiled warmly, looking over to the brothers, who watched on with equally confused frowns.
"Do we have to change him back when he likes me like this, but more importantly, I like him like this?" The Vampire asked.
"Yes." Dean said simply, going back to smoothing his blanket out on the couch.
"Spoil sport." Elizabeth mumbled, climbing into bed after Sam.
After two or so minutes, it was clear that Castiel wasn't moving from where he'd intercepted the Vampire at the bathroom.
"Cas, are you just gunna stand there all night? I thought we were passed this." Dean groaned.
"I wasn't really sure on what else I could do." Cas replied.
"You could go and see if there are some bees who need protecting more than we do." Elizabeth jokingly suggested.
Cas' eyes lit up at the idea.
"You're right. I'll do that." He said. "Thank you, Elizabeth."
With that, he disappeared.
Elizabeth took her head from the pillow, looking around the almost pitch black room.
"He's actually gone..." She mumbled.
"Probably for the best. Come here." Sam's half asleep voice mused as he pulled her into his chest.
The next night, in the Camaro, the trio arrived outside of the Sucrocorp building - the latest hot house for Leviathan, curtesy of Dick Roman.
"Got it yet?" Dean asked his brother from the back seat.
Sam, armed with his laptop, was hacking into the building's security cameras, trying to get a visual on their meeting.
"Here we go." The younger brother said, pulling up the image of a large conference room. At the head of the table, was Dick, himself. "Thank you, Charlie. Wherever you are."
"She give you a crash course on hacking or something?" Elizabeth smirked, picking up the to-go cup refilled with blood.
"Yeah, pretty much. Girl's a genius." Sam nodded.
"I can't wait to meet her. Though, I kinda hope I never have to." The Vampire gave a small smile as she continued to watch the screen, taking a sip from her cup.
"That's the second floor and then..." Sam trailed off as he switched cameras to Dick's office. "Wait, what's that?"
"What the Hell?" Dean frowned. "Is that Dick?"
Dick was also in his office.
Sam flicked the cameras again to one pointing down a hall, where a third Dick was walking.
"And that's Dick." Sam exclaimed.
"Son of a bitch." Dean grumbled.
"Come on, boys. This should be easy. Dick's an egotistical narcissist. There's no way he'd miss his big meeting." Elizabeth scoffed. "He's in the conference room."
"Cycle through again." Dean instructed.
Sam wasn't listening. He'd spotted another car pull up on the opposite side of the road to them. He pulled his binoculars up to his face to get a better look.
"That's the maid... from the motel." He said.
"What motel?" Dean asked.
"Oh no... Oh Bobby, what are you doing?" Sam sighed.
"Hold up... Bobby?" Elizabeth gasped.
Sam's eyes widened and he gulped.
"Oh yeah... I might've forgotten to mention Bobby's ghost kinda came back while you were in Louisiana..." He mumbled.
"Might've forgotten? How the Hell do you 'forget' to tell me that, Sam?" The Vampire raised her voice. "It's Bobby."
"I'm sorry; I just thought it would be better if I told you once you were back rather than having your mind wondering while you were killing Demons. And then we lost him and-"
"Forget it. We'll talk about this later." Elizabeth growled, getting out of the car and slamming the door behind her.
"Never thought I'd see you in Elizabeth's dog house." Dean commented, clearly amused by the situation.
"Shut up, Dean." Sam sighed, getting out of the car after shoving the computer into his brother's lap. "Wait here."
"Wait, are you out of your mind?" Dean protested.
"You've got the weapon and eyes on Dick - plural. I'll take care of Bobby and Elizabeth."
"Sam! Hey!" Dean called.
The younger brother lent down to address him.
"I love her, Dean. I need to go and fix this so I can eventually tell her that."
Dean didn't really know what to say to that. He just gave him a rather smug smirk.
"Shut up." Sam huffed, closing the car door and breaking into a run across the street.
"Bobby?" Elizabeth called out to him.
The maid - or Bobby - turned around at the sound of his friend's voice.
"'Liza! You're back!" Bobby grinned, moving to hug the Vampire tightly.
"Yeah, I got back yesterday. I wasn't told you'd... You know..."
"Come back as a ghost? Yeah, well... It came as a bit of a surprise to us all." Bobby shrugged. "You on the Dick Roman case full time now?"
"Yeah, we're putting a stop to this Leviathan crap once and for all. You want in?" Elizabeth smirked as Sam came running up.
"Bobby, I know you're in there." He said. "Listen to me. There are cameras everywhere. There's one right there." He pointed up to a CCTV camera situated at the top corner of part of the building, barely keeping the trio out of sight. "Stop, okay? You're gunna get her killed." He told him, gesturing to the maid he'd possessed.
Bobby didn't say anything, he just shoved Sam to the ground.
"I mean, I'm pissed at him too, but that was a little harsh..." Elizabeth cocked an eyebrow.
"You helping me put a stop to this or not?" Bobby asked.
Elizabeth was about to reply with something that portrayed her new-found hesitance over Bobby's mental state, but Sam had noticed the camera changing angles, coming right for them. He scrambled to his feet and shoved Bobby and Elizabeth behind a nearby van.
"Bobby, damn it!" The Winchester growled. "How you gunna kill Dick, huh? You can't!"
Bobby pulled out a machete from who knew where, causing Sam to back away a little.
"Good enough for me." Bobby said, lunging forward to hit Sam with it.
"Bobby!" Elizabeth protested, grabbing the ghost's attention. "That's Sam! You'd never hurt him. Have you, of all people, seriously gone all vengeful spirit so easily?"
"I will if he gets in my damn way." Bobby grumbled, moving to pass the Winchester.
"No!" Sam grabbed Bobby, holding the possessed woman by the shoulders. "I am not letting you go."
"Get outta here, Sam." Bobby warned.
"No." The Winchester practically whispered.
Bobby lunged, grabbing Sam by the throat, holding him against the van.
"Bobby... Stop." Sam choked out.
Elizabeth grabbed Bobby's shoulders, throwing him to the floor. Sam gasped for air, holding his knees as he caught his breath back.
"I could've hunted every other vengeful spirit on this Earth before I expected to take you on." She seethed. "I was willing to go with you - save the boys - our boys - from going in there. But, like Hell am I going to watch you hurt Sam. Don't you dare test me, Bobby Singer, because I will happily put you down if I have to."
It was like something clicked in him at that moment.
The face of the woman he'd taken changed. She looked so incredibly angry, but those words; 'our boys', kick-started something.
"No!" She'd shouted, but it wasn't her voice, it was Bobby's.
In a puff of black smoke, she fell to the floor.
Elizabeth ran over to Sam, holding his shoulder.
"He's gone. Bobby's gone." She said. "Are you okay?"
Sam nodded his head and straightened up, moving his neck around until something clicked.
Then he picked up the woman and took her back to the car, placing her down gently in the seat next to Dean.
"What the Hell happened?" The older brother asked.
"Vengeful Bobby, that's what." Elizabeth huffed, climbing into the driver's seat as Sam got in the passenger side.
