Chapter Thirty-Eight - Abaddon

Crowley had instructed them to go to him in Cleveland, Ohio, in the penthouse suite of a hotel in the centre of the city.
Except he'd used the boy's safe-word for 'drop everything and run'.
Dean knew that they were heading into a trap - Elizabeth knew what Poughkeepsie meant from a hunt they'd done a few years back... But for some reason, the older brother wasn't letting Sam in on it.
They shared a glance through the rear-view mirror - confirming to Dean that she had overheard and knew what was going on.

They pulled up outside the hotel a few hours after the sun had risen. Elizabeth leaned on the bench seat from the back, glancing to Dean with mild suspicion. It was clear he was up to something.
They got out of the car, eyeing up the hotel across the street.
Elizabeth went to the trunk to fill up her gun with Demon trap bullets.
"Alright." Sam sighed. "Let's do this."
"Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a sec." Dean stopped him. "We should give this place a once-over before we go up there."
"Okay. Why?" Sam frowned as the Vampire shut the trunk.
"Yeah, Dean." Elizabeth cocked an eyebrow, crossing her arms as she put her weight on one foot. "Why?"
Dean gave her a look that silently said 'shut up'.
"Crowley said he thought he saw some Demons headed down to the basement." He told his brother. "He'd have checked it out himself, but if word had got back to Abaddon that he'd been seen..." He trailed off.
"When did he say all this?" Sam asked.
"On the phone. Look, it might mean that she knows that he's here, okay?" Dean replied. "So why don't you check out the basement. Elizabeth can check out the lobby and I'll take a look on the main floor."
"Sounds like a plan to me." Elizabeth shrugged as Dean grabbed the First Blade from his brother and walked off.

"Elizabeth." Dean hissed when they were inside. He watched Sam head to the basement before speaking again. "You're coming with me, come on."
He grabbed her arm and headed towards the elevator.
"Why?" She frowned.
"Because if crap goes sideways, I need you on my six." Dean replied as the elevator pinged open.
"Look," Elizabeth chuckled without a speck of humour. "I get why you hid the whole Poughkeepsie thing from Sam, for the record. What I don't understand is how Crowley knows it."
"During Sam's three trials," Dean started with a sigh. "He was hurt... Bad. So I made a deal with an Angel to possess him and heal him. That Angel turned out to be Gadreel - the Angel who guarded the Garden of Eden. He went all high and mighty on his own mission and, to stop him, Crowley had to go into Sam's head to tell Sam to shove Gadreel out. To let him know that what Crowley was saying was true, I told him to use our safe word."
Elizabeth nodded in understanding.
"You boys really did get busy while I was away."

When they got up the penthouse, they found the door ajar.
Dean frowned to the Vampire, who shrugged, before he pushed it open.
"Hello, Dean." Crowley said, splayed out on a couch on the opposite side of the suite. "Love the crazy bloodlust in your eyes. Hello, little Bat. Good to see you again."
The pair moved carefully towards the King of Hell, seeing he'd been injured.
Dean tapped his left shoulder with the tip of the First Blade.
"Let's not waste time." Crowley pressed. "I'll take you to Abaddon. It's not far."
A creaking of floorboards stole their attention from him. Dean swung the blade as a Demon came at him. The Demon lost balance as he missed the Winchester, now accidentally headed for Elizabeth, who put the nose of her gun under his chin and shot a Demon trap bullet straight through his head, paralysing him for later.
A force took Dean from his feet, flying him across the room into a painting on the right side of Crowley.
"A boy and his blade." A feminine voice came from behind the Vampire, who spun around. She aimed her gun at the woman, but lost it as Abaddon threw it across the room with her power. The Knight of Hell frowned. "That was supposed to do a lot more than that..."
"Try again, I'm all yours." Elizabeth sneered, holding out her arms.
Abaddon went to throw her across the room again, but nothing happened. Everyone in the room was more confused than they'd ever been.
"That's new..." She uttered. "What are you?"
"Back-up." Elizabeth smirked, going to charge at the woman.
But Abaddon had other ideas. She put out her hand towards Dean, who began to choke.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." She said, stopping the Vampire in her tracks, re-addressing the Winchester. "You see? You're still no match for the new Queen. So, first... You'll die. Painfully. And then Crowley will watch his son die. Then the King, himself. And as for this new toy, I'll have to figure out what to do with you later. After I've destroyed the Blade."
Elizabeth sneered in her spot, bearing her fangs. Abaddon's eyes glistened with fascination.
"That's quite a to-do list." The Knight of Hell continued, her curious gaze still on the Vampire.
Dean used every ounce of his strength to beat the power holding him in place. The Mark of Cain glowed so bright, it could be seen through his clothes. It grabbed the attention of Abaddon, who used her power again to keep him there, but it wasn't working. Her smug, triumphant smile was lost as Dean's feet touched the floor again.
Abaddon was using so much power, things began to fly around the room.
It was like Dean was walking through a wind tunnel as he powered on towards the Knight of Hell.
But one more flick of her wrist sent Dean flying back to the painting, except this time, the First Blade fell out of his hand.
Abaddon laughed.
Dean stared the blade down, willing it to move with everything he had.
Elizabeth took a single step forward, to distract Abaddon's gaze long enough for Dean to focus.
It was enough.
The Blade flew into Dean's hand as if by magic. He planted his feet back on the floor with a grunt of effort.
Abaddon frowned just as Sam came through the door.
Dean stormed up to Abaddon, plunging the First Blade straight into her stomach. She gasped out in pain, screaming as light burned her from the inside out.
Dean took the Blade out, dropping the woman's body to the floor. But he wasn't done. He fell to his knees and began stabbing the corpse over and over.
"Dean!" Sam called out, but there was nothing. The older brother was seeing far more than red. "Dean, stop!"
Elizabeth approached him from behind, grabbing him and pulling him off Abaddon.
"Dean, stop. It's okay. She's dead. You did it." She whispered in his ear.
He looked up at his brother with wide eyes.
He then looked down again at what he'd done, tapping Elizabeth's hand to release him as he dropped the Blade.

"You could at least - Ow!" Crowley was cut off as Elizabeth buried the tip of her knife into his bullet wound. "Tell me why Abaddon's magic didn't work on Elizabeth."
"Stop being a baby." She muttered, focusing on the task at hand. "I don't know why Abaddon's magic didn't work."
She was only half-lying...
"We didn't kill you, Crowley." Sam said as he wrapped up the First Blade. "Even though it would've been very easy."
"Piss off, Sam." Elizabeth mumbled, a smirk on her face as she turned back to Crowley. "I wouldn't have let them. Especially after you gave the warning."
Crowley smiled down at her, giving her a wink.
"I just still can't get over the fact that Crowley has a son." Dean mumbled, wiping his hands on a cloth.
"We were all Human once, Dean." Elizabeth commented, digging the blade in a little further into Crowley's shoulder until she found the bullet, dragging it out of him.
"How's he doing by the way?" Dean continued.
"How do you think?" Crowley winced as the bullet came out. "He's a man out of his time who's just found out that, not only are Demons real, but his father's the King of them all."
"You get that he's gotta go back, right?" Dean asked. "To his own time?"
"If the lad goes back, his destiny is to board a ship bound for America - that ship went down in a storm. All hands were lost. He had one chance in this world to change his life. You want that to all end in tragedy?"
Dean shrugged.
"Well, I dunno what to tell you. Them's the rules. He goes back."
"The lore all says the same thing." Sam interjected. "You change any one thing in the past, the ripple effect impacts everything that follows."
"Please." Crowley scoffed. "No one bends the rules like you two bend the rules. He's one misfit kid. He impacts no one."
"They bent all their rules in the present time." Elizabeth cocked an eyebrow as she stood up.
"You don't bend that rule, okay?" Sam waved his arms out in a lazy shrug. "You just don't. We'll take him back to the Bunker, figure out a spell. That's the way it's gotta be."
"Can I at least say goodbye?" Crowley hissed.
"Yes." Elizabeth quickly said before the boys could say anything she'd regret. "Of course you can."
Crowley gave a small, respectful nod to the Vampire as he rose from his seat.
"I'll treasure the day when the last speck of Humanity leaves me." He grumbled.
He then went over to the bedroom and closed the large double doors behind him.
The brothers ran at the door, opening it immediately, but Crowley and his son were gone.
"Damn it, Crowley!" Dean yelled. He went to make a snarky remark at Elizabeth, but she'd disappeared too. "What the Hell?"
"Where'd she go?" Sam asked, looking around the suite.
"I have... No clue." Dean replied.

"Goodbye Gavin." Crowley gave a small smile.
Elizabeth looked around, seeing they were in a clearing.
"Oh, come on!" She groaned.
Crowley and his son; Gavin, looked over.
"How the Hell did you get here?" Crowley asked.
Elizabeth gave an annoyed sigh.
"It's a long story... Can you give me a lift back to the Bunker, please?" She moped, hanging her arms in frustration.
Crowley looked to his son, giving him a nod before snapping his fingers.

"So, do you want to tell me how that just happened?" Crowley asked as the stood outside the entrance to the Bunker.
"Just some weird stuff's been going on with me lately." She replied.
"I can see that..." Crowley rolled his eyes. "Would you like to elaborate on that for me?"
"Not particularly." Elizabeth mumbled. "I'll tell you when I have no choice."
Crowley chuckled in mild disbelief.
"Honestly, little Bat. With everything we've been through, I thought you'd have been able to talk to me by now."
Elizabeth looked over at him with a frown.
"You must be joking." She replied. "With everything we've been through, one of the few things I've learned is not to divulge possibly life-changing information to you, lest you use it against me one day."
Crowley's eyebrows raised in shock.
"Life-changing, huh?" He said. "Well, doesn't that sound exciting. I'll be here when you're ready to talk."
And then he disappeared, just as Elizabeth's phone rang.
'Impala 2'.
"Hey, Sam." She sighed, answering it.
"Where the Hell did you go?" The younger brother asked.
"I think I accidentally did the teleportation thing I did to get out of Heaven. Except I was wondering where Crowley went at the time." She scratched the back of her head in confusion.
"You did what?" Sam scoffed. "That's... That's okay, where are you? We'll come get you."
"He gave me a ride back to the Bunker, so I'm there now. I'll see you when you get home, okay?" Elizabeth huffed, looking to the Bunker's door.
Sam liked the way she said 'home'. It made a smile fall on his lips.
"Yeah, okay." He said. "We'll see you soon."

"Elizabeth!" Dean shouted as he entered the Bunker.
"Chill, I'm right here." Elizabeth sighed, getting up from her chair in the library, where she had been reading up on anything that even looked like what she was going through.
"The Hell happened?" He asked, waving his arms out from his sides in an exaggerated shrug.
"Did Sam not tell you? Oop-" She asked, interrupted when he engulfed her in a protective hug.
"Yeah, but you scared the crap out of us." His voice was muffled by her hair.
Elizabeth frowned to the younger Winchester as he approached them.
"I'm sorry. I just... Don't know how to control it. I mean, I can't control it. I don't even know what 'it' is yet." She replied.
"Well, can't you just stop thinking about people and places until you can?" Dean asked, only half joking.
"Yeah, because that's possible." Elizabeth smirked, pulling away from the brother. "I'll figure this out. Don't worry."
"We'll figure this out." Sam corrected.
"Right." Elizabeth smiled.

Elizabeth was sat on her bed, reading through a file that kept going back to celestial beings when Sam knocked on the partially closed door.
"What's up?" He asked, seeing her frustrated face.
"Considering the amount of information we have stashed away here, you'd think there'd be something close to what's been happening to me filed away somewhere." She sighed, throwing the file down on the floor.
Sam came and sat next to her on the bed, taking her hand.
"We'll find out what it is. I promise." He told her.
Elizabeth gave an unenthused nod in response, bringing his hand up to place a gentle kiss on his knuckles.
Sam frowned.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah..." She practically whispered, releasing his hand to lay down on the bed. "Come here."
Sam continued his frowning as he moved to lay down on his side, kicking his shoes off as he went.
He rested his head on his right arm, his other one draped over the Vampire's middle, collectively enveloping her in a protective cocoon with his body. Elizabeth took the hand on her middle, entwining her fingers in his.
They didn't say anything for a few moments, just laid there in silence.
"Thank you." She finally whispered.
"What for?" Sam asked.
"For being patient with me. For being there for me whilst I try to figure out this Eden crap and all these weird abilities."
Sam hesitated, second-guessing his next actions. But he went ahead and did it anyway. He propped himself up on his elbow and leaned over, kissing her exposed neck, figuring it was the only place he could reach without crushing her.
Elizabeth closed her eyes, sighing in contentment and she brought their hands up over her chest to her lips.
Sam nudged his arm against her, egging her to turn over.
The Vampire's icy eyes opened as she rolled onto her back, looking into his gorgeous hazel ones, noting how dark they looked in the dimly lit room.
"Can I..?" He went to ask, trailing off as she smiled, lifting her head to connect their lips in a gentle kiss.
She released his hand to cup his face, her fingertips brushing over the shells of his ears.
When they eventually parted, Sam rested his forehead on hers, not bothering to open his eyes.
"I've been wanting to do that again for three years." Elizabeth whispered.
"You and me both." He chuckled, reconnecting their lips into a far more heated moment.
