Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Seven - The Other Archangel

Eden woke up to the sound of Sam's alarm clock buzzing repetitively. She sighed heavily, looking over at her love. His head was twitching slightly, his closed eyes blinking as his expression turned to a frown. Before she could see what dream he was having, Sam shot up with a gasp.
"You okay?" Eden asked, turning off the alarm.
Sam took a deep breath, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Uh, yeah. Just... Weird dream." He replied.
"Good weird or bad weird?" Eden frowned, running a hand up his back as she propped herself up on her elbow.
"Good weird, definitely. Mom and Jack were back and Dean ate seven slices of pizza." He chuckled, leaning back to give her a kiss. "Good morning."
"Hmm, good morning." Eden smiled. "Seven slices of pizza, huh? I think your brain was trying to tell you that you're hungry."
"Yeah, maybe." Sam laughed, turning it into a groan as he swung his legs from out of the bed sheets and stood up.

"Shh!" Eden hissed, stifling a giggle as she duct taped an air horn behind the door to Dean's bedroom.
"I'm sorry! I can't help it." Gabriel sniggered.
"If you blow our cover, I'm gunna ram this horn where the grace doesn't shine." The Dark Angel smirked, fixing one more piece of tape to the horn. "Perfect. When Dean opens the door, the air horn will go off and he'll need a new change of underwear."
"E and G, back at it again." Gabriel grinned, holding his hand up.
Eden high-fived it before skipping off down the hall, eager to get out of the bedroom without Dean noticing.
Together, they wandered into the kitchen, grabbed a blood bag and a coffee, then went to sit down in the library until Dean got back from his grocery run.
"What are you two lookin' all shifty about?" The older brother asked as he came down the stairs with a couple of bags in his hands.
"Shifty? Me? Never." Eden gave an innocent raise of her brows as she sucked some blood from the bag.
"Uh-huh. Stopped by the blood bank on the way, got you and the other two a top up." Dean replied, walking out into the kitchen.
"Other two?" Gabriel frowned.
"Ah, yes. Tobias and Willow. Tobias is a friend and Willow I've... Sort of adopted. They're both Vampires, currently out and about somewhere. In fact, they should be back today. Told them I needed them back here for when we go and get Jack and Mary." Eden frowned, instinctively looking towards the door.
Gabriel gave a knowing nod.
"Are they coming with us?" He asked.
"No." Eden scoffed, swallowing down the mouthful of blood. "I told them I needed them here to help Rowena and make sure nothing bad happens while we're gone."
As if on cue, the Bunker door opened once more, revealing the Scotsman and the teen.
"We're back!" Tobias called.
"So I see. Come down, there's someone you need to meet." Eden replied, looking up at the little balcony at the top of the stairs.
"Who's this?" The older Vampire asked as he trotted down to their level.
Gabriel and Eden rose to their feet to meet the other pair.
"Tobias, Willow, this... Is the Archangel Gabriel." The Dark Angel smiled, waving a hand in his direction. "One of my oldest friends."
"Any friend of Eden might just be a friend of mine." Gabriel greeted, shaking Tobias and Willow's hands respectively.
"It's an honour to meet you, Gabriel." Tobias said, smiling eagerly.
"Eden told me about you. You used to play games. I like games." Willow grinned.
"We've actually just played one." Eden smirked to her Archangel companion, tapping the side of her nose. "But, wait for it. You'll know it when you hear it."

Later on, Sam arrived back home with Rowena, almost entirely ready to do the spell to open the rift.
Not long after that, a loud horn echoed through the corridors, shortly followed by Dean yelling out in surprise.
"EDEN! GABRIEL!" He bellowed. "Son of a bitch!"
"Oh, crap." The Dark Angel giggled.
"What did you do?" Sam asked.
"Gabriel and I got back to our old ways. Laid out the perfect jump scare trap for Dean." She smirked. "He just found it."
Sam gave a breathy chuckle, shaking his head.
"Is this gunna be the new thing with you two?" He asked.
"Oh, hell yes."
After greeting Dean, Eden and Castiel - who had also arrived, Rowena began to lay out the ingredients as the Winchesters prepared and packed for the mission.
"You and that friggin' Trickster are assholes, you know that?" Dean grumbled.
"Thank you." Eden smirked.
"Fruit from the Tree of Life, blood of a most holy man, and, uh..." Rowena plucked a hair from Dean's head, making him let out a groaned 'ow.' "Something from the other side."
Castiel walked in from seeing the others, who were keeping themselves occupied in Willow's room.
"Hey. How's Gabriel?" Sam asked.
"He said he needed a minute alone. He wanted to extract his grace by himself, 'in private.'" He used air quotes that made Eden giggle from her spot in the corner of the room. "So, I left him alone in Dean's room."
"What? No!" Dean whined.
"I hate to interrupt," Rowena spoke up. "But, I can't be the only one who's noticed the rather glaring hole in this plan. We open up the rift, it gives us a day to find and save your mum and the boy and it's a very big world over there and you're not even sure where they are, so..."
"She's right. The clock may run out on us." Cas agreed.
"Yeah. It might." Sam said, cocking his gun.
"Yeah, well, we don't have any better ideas." Dean huffed.
"Mm, that's inspirational." Rowena commented.
"We've got this covered. Once we're over there, I can track Mary and fly us all-"
"All four of us... Together..." Dean cocked a brow, cutting Eden off. "Look, Vampy Pants, I know you're strong as Hell and all, but that's just impractical."
"Then, I'll make return trips. We need to make this mission as short as possible." Eden replied. "You know I'm right, Dean."
Dean glanced up at Sam, who shrugged.
"She is right." Cas nodded.
"Alright, fine." The older brother nodded. "Quick in and out. No room for screw ups. And what if, for whatever reason, you can't track mom? Or what if she's not with Jack? Or what if they're with Michael? We know what you being on the wrong end of Archangel juice looks like."
Eden scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"If we run into Michael, don't you think that it would be better to have me there than to not? I'll just be another suped up weapon against him. We already have Gabriel and Pigeon; maybe Jack if he's there. But I will die on that God-forsaken wasteland before I leave without him... Or your mother." Eden's tone was low, expressing her seriousness. "If I can't track her, then we'll go the long way round and we'll think of a plan B for getting out if we can't keep the rift open long enough. If she's not with Jack, then maybe she'll know where he is. Either way, we're coming back through that rift with both of them and not a single soul less. Got it?"
Dean nodded, shoving his gun into the back of his jeans.
"Here it is!" Gabriel announced, walking in with a vial of grace. "The final ingredient - a fresh serving of Archangel grace."
He placed it down on the table where the other ingredients were laid out. The vial had the tiniest portion of grace inside that made everyone else in the room frown. Rowena picked it up, shaking the vial a little.
"This is what you call a serving?"
"That is the jet fuel of divine emissions." Gabriel pointed to it. "It'll be more than enough to get the job done."
"Oh, you do this often, then?" Eden cocked a brow. Gabriel gave her a look, accompanied with a sigh. "Whatever... I'll go get Tobias and Willow, you lot get ready to go."

She re-entered the library with Tobias and Willow, who had Nala wrapped over her shoulders, hissing contently.
"Tobias, Willow, this is Rowena. You're going to be making sure nothing bad happens on this end." Eden explained, motioning to the Witch, who was at the table, grinding the ingredients up into a copper bowl.
"Tobias, Willow. I've heard so much about you." Rowena smiled.
"Oh, it's nice to hear my native accent after so long." Tobias chuckled, leaning in to place a delicate kiss on the Witch's knuckles. "It's a pleasure, Rowena. Your reputation precedes you."
Rowena smirked, giving a side glance to Eden, who rolled her eyes against her amused smile.
"Yeah, great, can we get on with this?" Dean huffed, tucking an Angel Blade into his jacket.
Eden walked over to Willow and tickled under Nala's chin, making kissy faces at her beloved snake.
"You take care of each other, got it?" She looked to the teen, who nodded.
"We've got this. Everything will be f-"
"Ah! Ah, ah. Don't finish that sentence, you'll jinx it." The Dark Angel cut her off. "Just stay safe."
The group watched as Rowena poured Gabriel's grace into the spell ingredients and uttered a spell. Her hands flew to an empty space at the end of the room and the golden rift opened up before their eyes.
"Okay... Everyone ready?" Cas asked.
"Yeah, alright." Sam sighed.
"Let's do this." Dean practically glared at the golden tear before walking towards it with Sam, Eden, Gabriel and Cas in tow.
As they neared it, the rift began to flicker and drooped over at the top, eventually flickering into nothing.
"Trouble keeping it up, dearest?" Eden turned to Rowena.
"Well, that was... Fast." Cas grumbled.
"Very, very fast." Sam added.
"One could even say premature." Rowena looked to Gabriel, who stumbled over words.
"Um... I thought it would be enough." He defended.
"Alright, great. What do we do now?" The younger brother asked.
"Hell if I know." Dean shook his head.
"You do know." Cas' face was grave. "We all do. We need Archangel grace. Gabriel is obviously running a little low and we don't know how long it'll take him to recover. So, that leaves exactly one source on Earth."
"No." Sam and Eden said together.
"We're not letting that maniac anywhere near this." The Dark Angel growled.
"I don't like it either, but there is no other way." Castiel continued. "We need Lucifer."
"Nope. No. Not happening." Eden shook her head. "We can try whatever my equivalent to grace is. If that doesn't work, then..." She waved her arms in an exaggerated shrug. "We'll figure something out. Without Lucifer."
"You don't have grace, let alone Archangel grace." Cas pointed out.
"No, but I am technically an Archangel of sorts. The worst that can happen is nothing. So, we might as well try before we start getting deadbeat dad number two in on the action." She replied, looking around for everyone's responses.
"Eden, Dean, Cas... Can I have a word in private, please?" Sam sighed.
The named nodded, the older Winchester leading them out to the kitchen.

"We've got to try this, Sam. It's the only way without bringing literal Hell to our doorstep." Eden huffed, watching him slump down against the wall to sit on the floor.
"You know it won't work. The spell specifically asks for grace - something you don't have." He replied.
"So, we need Lucifer. He's the only other choice there is." Castiel said.
"Obviously I wanna get mom and Jack back. It's all I want; it's all I can think about. But, we've been down this road before. Teaming up with Lucifer-"
"We're not teaming up with him." Dean interrupted his brother.
"We just need his grace." Cas mumbled, leaning against the table.
"Oh, 'just.'" Sam scoffed.
"We've trapped his ass before." Dean commented.
"Yes, and every time, it ends up the same way - with the Devil being on the loose again." Sam raised his voice.
"Look, Sam," Cas sighed. "I was used by Lucifer, too. It was the worst possible violation. So, I'm not taking your reluctance lightly, but he is already out there and we've been ignoring it and avoiding dealing with him because we're afraid. We let Lucifer out of the Cage and he has never stopped being our responsibility."
"I mean, if you want to be picky, I let him out of the Cage." Eden held up a hand. "I knew he was in your vessel when I let 'you' out, Pigeon, I was just too hyped up on Dark Angel juice to care. So, if he's anyone's responsibility, he's mine. And I'm saying we're not using him. I'll deal with him later."
"Oh, like you've dealt with him all those other times?" Cas argued.
"I've been working on a plan, alright? You might've chosen to forget that he's out there, but I bloody well haven't!" Eden raised her voice before pausing to take a deep breath. "I can't. Not with Jack. They cannot meet. He will take advantage of that boy, you know this. I won't let that happen."
"What's the plan?" Cas frowned.
"Is this really important right now?" Dean almost shouted. "We can deal with Lucifer later. After he's got a rift open for us."
"No, you're right." Sam sighed, putting his head in his hand. "You're right. I don't like it, but it's our only choice - another fun, great choice."
"You can't be serious." Eden raised her brows.
"Baby, I'm sorry, but your equivalent to grace won't work and we have no other Archangels to hand. Lucifer is our only option."
The Dark Angel looked between the three men before scoffing and storming out of the kitchen.

The sounds of light moans filled the air as Eden walked back into the library. She'd heard Tobias and Willow go back to the bedrooms whilst she was in the kitchen, but Rowena and Gabriel were also nowhere to be found.
She walked further into the room, following the moans and heavy breathing.
"Oh, my God." Her eyes widened as she saw the pair half naked behind a bookshelf, their hair tussled and tangled, pink lipstick all over Gabriel's face. She quickly turned her back, stifling a laugh. "Got a thing for Archangels, huh, Rowena?"
"Oh, hush yourself. You couldn't have been gone a little longer?" The Witch huffed, pulling up the sleeve on her orange bat-wing top as the boys walked in.
She and Gabriel stumbled out from behind the bookshelf, earning equally shocked expressions from Sam and Dean and a confused head tilt from Cas.
"We were just-"
"Reading." Gabriel interrupted the Witch as he quickly covered his crotch with a red book about plumbing. "Books. Here in the, uh... Library. Which is the room we're in... Right now."
"Should've come in when I did. That was a sight I shan't be forgetting for a while... Unfortunately." Eden mumbled.
"Did you four arrive at a... Decision?" Rowena panted, placing her hands in the pockets of her wide leg black pants.
The room was silent for a few seconds as the Winchesters took in the scene before them.
"Sam has a plan." Dean quickly spoke up, throwing a thumb behind him at his younger brother.
"Sam does?" Eden frowned. "I was gone for half a minute and Sam suddenly has a plan?"
"Pretty much. You're not gunna like it." The younger brother nodded.
Eden gave a vocalised sigh and she slumped down, perching on the edge of the table.
"Well? What is it?" She snapped.
"You find Lucifer, Gabriel does his shapeshifty... Thing, drugs Lucifer, we get him back here in Angelcuffs and use a steady flow of his grace to feed the spell and the rift for as long as we need it." Sam replied.
Eden gave a chuckle entirely devoid of humour as she hopped off the table and took a few steps towards him.
"No." She growled. "We're not putting Gabriel in that position and I won't risk Tobias, Willow and Rowena being alone with him while we're gone."
"Actually, I was thinking you could use all of the superhuman strength you could get, in case Lucifer gets a little antsy." Tobias spoke up, walking in from behind her with Willow in tow, Nala still around her neck.
"We want to help as much as we can." The girl nodded.
"I'm game. Always fancied drugging one of my brothers." Gabriel held up a hand.
Eden looked to each of them as they spoke.
"Looks like you're the only one not okay with this, Vampy Pants." Dean commented.
"I wouldn't say 'okay' was the right word..." Sam glanced back at him briefly. "Eden, can I speak to you a moment?"
The Dark Angel gave him a glare, walking passed him into the War room.
He sighed heavily, dipping his head before turning to follow her.

"This is beyond crazy, you know that, right?" Eden hissed, standing in the corridor leading to the kitchen.
"When is anything we do not crazy?" Sam countered, bringing his hand up to rest on her upper arm. "The last thing I want to do is involve Lucifer in this or put Tobias and Willow at risk, but this is the only way we're gunna get my mom back - the only way we're gunna get Jack back."
A lump formed in Eden's throat as she thought everything over. She wanted Jack back more than anything. But putting other members of her family at risk to do so?
"I miss him so much..." She whispered, fearing her voice cracking if she spoke any louder.
"I know." Sam sighed, pulling her in for a hug as a tear fell from her lower lashes. "I know, Baby, I do. I miss him, too. This is the only way we're going to get him back. Just please, trust me and have faith in Tobias and Willow that they're strong enough to take care of themselves."
They stood there for a minute or so, just letting Eden get all of her pent up emotions out - emotions that had been corked inside of her for months. Eventually, she pulled away and ran her fingers under her make-up smeared eyes.
"Okay. Alright." She breathed, nodding. "If they're up for it, let's do it. Let's get Mary and Jack back."
Sam gave her a small smile, leaning to kiss her hair as he ran his hand down her back, giving her a gentle push back in the direction of the library.
"We good?" Dean asked. Sam simply nodded as he wrapped his arm over Eden's shoulders. "Alright. Awesome. Let's do this."
