Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-Three - A Familiar Face

Sam and Eden were sat at the table in the kitchen a week later. Sam was on his laptop looking for cases and Eden was lounging sideways in her chair, back against the wall with her feet up in Sam's lap, her eyes scanning the articles he was looking at as her right hand stroked circles on her bump.
Sam frowned, turning to look around the room.
"What's up?" Eden asked.
"Just... Nothing."
"Hey." Dean uttered, walking into the room in his pyjamas and robe with a box of cereal in hand.
"Hey." The other two replied.
"You know they still put jokes on the backs of these things?" Dean smiled, wandering over. "Here, listen to this; what's round and bad tempered? A vicious circle. You know, 'cause it's..." He made claws with his fingers, baring his teeth.
"Hilarious." Eden mumbled, her face deadpan.
"Yeah, we... Wait a sec, did you have the whole box?" Sam protested.
"Yeah. Yeah." Dean placed the box down on the island counter before heading for the shelves on the far side of the room. "Because I'm a champion."
"So, wait a second. We've been looking for signs of God or Lilith and you've been in your room eating cereal?" The younger brother clarified.
"And marathoning Scooby-Doo with Willow." Dean added, picking up another box of cereal. "Did you find anything?"
He came and stood by the table after grabbing a couple of blood bags from the fridge.
"Nothing. Not yet." Sam replied.
"Shocker." The older brother commented, shoving a handful of cereal into his mouth, only to decide it tasted disgusting, make a face and shove the box back on the shelf.
"Hey, did you notice anything weird just now when you came in?" Sam wondered.
"No. Why, you have another one of your visions?" Dean frowned.
"No. I haven't had a vision since Colorado." The younger brother replied, shrugging with just his hands. "I think they stopped."
"Well, don't go jinxing it." Eden gave a small smirk.
"I doubt it." Dean muttered, inhaling deeply as he put one foot on the chair opposite Sam to lean on his knee. "Not until Chuck gets his endgame... You know? The Winchester Bowl. Cain and Abel two point oh. This is God we're talking about. G-O-D. I wouldn't be too worried about finding him. He'll find us."
"Wouldn't you rather find him on your terms rather than his?" Eden cocked a brow.
"I mean, sure." Dean shrugged. "But what are the chances that he's just going to slip up? No, if we hear anything, it's going to be because he wanted us to."

Sam had come back from a jog later that day, summoning the remaining three to the library.
Eden entered first, gasping and stopped dead in her tracks at what she saw. Or rather, who.
"Eileen?" She spoke as Dean and Willow joined behind her.
"Hi, guys." The brunette smiled.
"But... How? You were dead." The older brother exclaimed.
"Uh, she is." Sam replied. "She was one of the ghosts released from Hell."
"So, you were in Hell? You didn't make a deal. You were innocent." Dean frowned, standing next to his brother. "You been down there this whole time?"
"The Hellhound that killed me kinda dragged me there." Eileen explained.
Dean's brows raised and his mouth shut closed.
"Damn..."
"Yeah, she escaped when Chuck blew all the doors open and then..."
"I hauled ass. As far as I could." The woman nodded, finishing for Sam.
"So by the time we got the barrier up, you were already gone." Dean concluded.
"Wait... Eileen? As in Eileen Leahy?" Willow clarified.
"Yeah." Eden turned to the newcomer. "Eileen, this is our adopted daughter, Willow." She signed as she spoke.
"It's really nice to meet you." Eileen gave the young Vampire a warm smile.
"You too. I've heard so much about you from these guys." Willow grinned, throwing a pointed thumb towards the three next to her.
"So... How come you've only made an appearance now?" Eden pressed.
"Been trying to get you guys to see me for a while now." The Huntress replied. "This whole ghost thing doesn't really come with a handbook... Look, I know how all this works and I know how it ends. We go crazy. We hurt people. I can't stay here and I won't go back down... There. So, I thought... You guys know Angels. Maybe you could put in a good word, you know? Up there?" She nodded towards the ceiling.
"Eileen, even if we did, it wouldn't matter." Dean sighed. "Souls from Hell can't go to Heaven. A friend of ours just found that out. I'm sorry."
"Yeah... Me too." The woman's voice broke as tears welled at her waterline.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a sec?" Sam asked, ushering his brother out of the room.
"Is there maybe something you could do?" Eileen looked to Eden. "You know, as an Angel of Darkness?"
Eden gave a heavy sigh.
"I'm sorry, my love. I have no power over Heaven or Hell. There's nothing I wish more right now than to give you what you want, but..." She stopped mid-sentence, staring off into the distance just passed Eileen's right arm. "Hold on a second."
She rushed out of the room, headed for the armoury.

Sam was looking for her a few minutes later, deciding to follow the sound of metal and wood clattering about.
"Hey." He said when he found her digging through every weapon, herb and spellbook. "What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for something." She replied, not bothering to stop or turn around.
"Right, well, I need to go to Rowena's place. I'll be back soon, okay?"
That caught Eden's attention. She stopped immediately to face him.
"You are? Perfect. It was something of hers I was looking for anyway. Need a ride?" She smiled brightly, walking passed him towards the War room.
"Uh, Eileen wanted to come with me and she can't track you if you fly. You can drive, though." Sam broke into a slight jog to catch up with her she was walking so fast.
"Even better."

Parking up outside Rowena's fancy renovated Edwardian apartment building and walking in, Eileen appeared between Sam and Eden as they headed towards Rowena's place. It was a set of dark wood double doors at the end of one of the corridors.
"Wait." Eden frowned, stopping suddenly.
"What is it?" Sam asked.
She scrunched up her nose.
"Blood. Someone's definitely dead in there."
Sam gave a short sigh, moving closer to the apartment with more caution. He pushed open the double doors, revealing a young woman with short blonde hair, dressed in all black, lying on the floor with dried blood around her ears, eyes and nose. The place had been trashed, with books, smashed glass and artwork everywhere.
"Who's she?" Eileen asked, pointing at the body.
"I don't know." Sam shook his head.
"Whoever she was, she was a Witch. I can still sense her power. She hasn't been dead long." Eden held out a hand towards the corpse, wiggling her fingers a little as she watched the hairs stand on end at the presence of magic.
"Wait a second..." Sam crouched down, pulling back the girl's collar on her leather jacket, revealing a small tattoo behind her ear.
"She was... Goth?" Eileen offered.
"No. Close." The Winchester replied, getting back up. "I recognise that. It's from the Ordo Maleficarum."
"Bloody Hell, those bitches are getting cute little friendship tattoos now?" Eden rolled her eyes.
"Looks like she tore this place apart." Sam looked around the property. "Maybe she got into something she shouldn't have."
"Like a cursed object or one of Rowena's protection totems." Eden nodded, earning one back from her love. "Right, then... Try not to touch anything that might be cursed. I don't need our child being born fatherless." The Dark Angel sighed.
"Oh yeah! I forgot to say congratulations." Eileen smiled brightly. "On both the baby and the engagement."
"Thank you." Sam and Eden replied and signed at the same time.

Eden knew that what she was looking for could've been anywhere by now and even if it were in Rowena's apartment, she would've hidden it well.
Meanwhile, Sam was looking through everything from books, to crystals, to tarot cards.
"This is just junk." Eileen shrugged.
"Tarot cards, self help books... Where's her real stash?" Sam asked, looking around the room as he carelessly dropped a self help book down on the desk in front of him. "Baby, you picking up on anything useful?"
"There's little bits of magic scattered around the place, but nothing like the soul crystal." Eden sighed.
Eileen turned to her left, eyeing up a floor to ceiling bookshelf. She moved closer and disappeared through it, earning equal frowns from both Sam and Eden.
"Eileen?" The Winchester rushed over.
"Sam? Eden! In here!" She called.
Eden stood a few feet in front of it and held out her hand, using her magic to force the bookshelf to open like a door.
"Tada!" Eileen sang, spreading her arms out.
"Clever Rowena..." Eden mumbled to herself.
They looked around inside the hidden room. It was the size of two hospital elevators and filled with shelves of various magical items and spell books.
Sam had found a whole shelf filled with identical red notebooks and began looking through a random one.
"Sam?" Eileen frowned.
"She... Kept journals."
"Rowena?"
"Yeah. Her spell work." Sam looked in a state of disbelief as he flicked through the pages. "All of it. Right up until the end..."
"No way..." Eden walked over, studying tiny dates on each of the books' spines. She pulled one out from 1787. "This was the year she took my memories and turned me into Elizabeth." She skimmed through the pages until she landed on the right date. "She's got a whole case file on me."
"May I see?" Eileen asked, holding out her hand. Eden nodded, leaning it towards her, watching her as she read. "This is incredible... I mean, it sounds like it was agonising for you, but this is some serious magic."
"Yes, it was. But I most likely wouldn't have met the Winchesters without it. I'd say a little pain is worth it." Eden smirked, earning one back as they turned their glances to Sam, who gave a short-lived smile before returning his book to the shelf and grabbing another one.
"You miss Rowena..." Eileen observed.
"I killed her." Sam replied, earning a slight look of shock. "Her idea. She sacrificed herself to save us – to save the world." He paused as he thought about what he was going to say next, taking a deep breath to do so. "Do you ever feel like you're just some cosmic joke?"
"You've met us, right?" Eden pointed between herself and Eileen, who raised her hands to comfort the pair by placing them on theirs, alas, her touch was unfelt to Sam as her hand went straight through his.
"Rowena got it..." Sam continued. "I mean, she didn't know all the details, but she knew the game was rigged so this– magic – this is how she kept control."

The Winchester carried on flipping through pages when one fell out, brushing onto the floor. He closed the book and bent down to pick it up, studying it with a frown.
"No way." He breathed, looking up at the two women.
"What?" Eden asked, watching him move passed her and Eileen to go back into the main room, where he sat on the couch, moving a few books out of the way on the coffee table.
"Sam? What's going on?" Eileen pressed.
He looked up at her and took a deep breath.
"I've got it. Rowena was working on a spell to try and resurrect mom without a body."
"That's the spell I've been looking for this whole time! I thought she had it at the Bunker!" Eden's brows raised.
"Yeah, but get this." Sam held up a finger. "Turns out, Rowena was trying to find a way around that – a way to make the spirit flesh."
"She didn't use it?" Eileen shook her head.
"We ended up finding out my mom was in Heaven already and happy, so... She never finished it. But, I think I can finish it." Sam breathed a chuckle.
"Seriously?" Eden's lips turned up into a toothy grin.
"So..?" Eileen was clearly still confused.
"So, Eileen... I can bring you back."

After grabbing a few ingredients and the journals and putting them in the trunk of the Impala, Sam gave a slightly bewildered Eileen a hopeful smile.
"Alright, that's everything." He said.
One second, everything was fine and Eden headed to the driver's door. But then Sam keeled over, blood spilling from his mouth.
"Sam?" Eileen held out a hand. "Eden!"
The Dark Angel took one look at what was happening and sped over, trying to hold Sam up.
He looked dazed as he wiped the blood from his mouth.
"What's happening?" Eileen asked.
"Hex bag." He managed to choke out.
Eden nodded, gently putting him down on the ground before rushing around the car to look in every nook. Within seconds, under the left rear wheel arch, was a small, grey cloth bag.
"Brother." Sam signed to Eileen as two women stalked over to them.
One had honey blonde curls and another looked like an out-patient with long, dark curls.
The blonde flicked her hand out towards Eileen, clearly phrasing a spell.
The Huntress burst into a purple light and grey smoke.
"Bloody Ordo Witches." Eden growled.
She turned to them and balled up her fists. Instantly they hunched over, screaming in agony.
But the blonde managed to move just enough to pull out another hex bag, tossing it at Eden's feet.
It released a lilac gas and the next thing Eden knew, she was falling to the floor, unconscious.
