Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-Seven - Purgatory

"Eden!" Dean yelled through the Bunker. "Eden, get your ass out here, we've got a situation!"
The Dark Angel appeared in the War room.
"Jeez, you don't have to yell. I can hear you no matter what." She huffed. "What's going on?"
"Chuck happened. He's got Sam, Willow and Eileen." The Winchester replied, sitting in front of his laptop at the map table.
Eden's eyes widened, her heart skipping a terrified beat.
"He what?"
"I'm tracking Sam's phone." He continued. "Okay, here we go. Milford, Nebraska. At a casino. What the Hell is Chuck doing at a casino? Whatever, we need to go."
"To Purgatory..." Cas added as Dean got up.
"Chuck has Sam. I'm not leaving him." The Winchester raised his voice.
"Chuck's not gunna kill him. That's not the ending." The Angel countered.
"Then he'll torture him!" Dean defended, going to walk off.
"Dean, would you just stop? Stop being so stupid." Castiel ordered, making the older brother stop in his tracks and turn to face him.
"What?"
"If we attack Chuck now, we don't have anything that can hurt him. If we get that Leviathan Blossom, complete Michael's spell, build the Cage, that's our chance. That's the way we'll save Sam. And that's the way we'll save the world." The Angel told him.
Dean sighed, looking to Eden.
"What about you? What are you gunna do?"
Eden had accidentally put herself in a trance-like state as she tried to think her options over. She'd barely even registered Dean and Cas arguing.
"We can't involve her in all this. She's just going to go to try and save Sam and the girls and that could put the baby at risk." Castiel pointed out.
"Bloody Hell, if one more person insinuates that I am somehow vulnerable or incapable of doing something because of this pregnancy, so help me, I will hurt someone." The Dark Angel snapped. "I think... We should continue the plan and go to Purgatory. Between Sam, Willow and Eileen, they'll think of something. We have a time limit on our mission, they don't. Sam won't let Willow or Eileen die. If nothing else, we get the Leviathan Blossom, come back and then we can go and help. Not before."
Dean sighed again.
"Fine. But if my brother or my niece gets hurt because we weren't there, I will never forgive either of you. Ever." He pointed an accusing finger between his company before walking off.
"Believe me, I won't forgive myself..."  Eden mumbled, following him out.

"Hey, Vampy Pants." Dean called as he entered the study. "Remember this?"
The Dark Angel turned around, seeing him with a massive grin, holding up the makeshift obsideon weapon he'd forged during their last visit to Purgatory.
"Holy crap. You kept it." She chuckled.
"Hell yeah, I did. No way I was scrappin' this baby. Son of a bitch's got memories." He smirked, twisting it around in his hand.
"Not all great, if you remember." Castiel sighed, looking bored.
"True..." Eden pointed to him. "A year of Purgatory followed by two years in Heaven's jail wasn't exactly pleasant for me, I can tell you that much."
"Alright, that's enough of the trip down depressing memory lane." Dean huffed. "Let's go."

Through the portal, Purgatory was consumed by darkness.
"I mean, how the Hell are we supposed to even know what we're looking for here?" Dean asked, casting his flashlight beam through the trees. "You know, Michael could've done us a solid and drawn us a picture."
"At a guess, I'd say a flower that looks so repulsive, it reminds you of a Leviathan." Eden replied.
"You know, of all the time I've been in Purgatory, I've never seen a bloom of any kind." Castiel commented.
"Yeah, exactly." Dean nodded.
"Well, if we see it, we'll know. It's likely the only flower here." The Angel sighed.
"Alright, well, maybe we'll run into Benny. He's probably king of this place by now." Dean took out his phone, checking how much time they had left before the portal closed. "Okay, let's split up."
"What?" Castiel hissed through gritted teeth.
"You go that way, Eden goes that way, I'll go this way." The Winchester continued, pointing in several directions in front of him.
"You're joking, right?" Eden scoffed in disbelief.
"We'll meet back at the rift, alright? We'll cover more ground, better our odds."
"Yeah, we'll also improve our odds of getting lost or killed." Cas retorted, earning an almost playful glare from the man next to him. "Come on."
With that, he walked off.

They walked for a couple of hours, searching every hole in the ground and every rotting tree stump.
"I think we're going round in circles." Dean thought aloud, grimacing at a dead creature on the ground next to him. "We've seen this corpse before."
"No, Dean. My sense of direction is excellent. That's a different corpse." Castiel replied, looking through the trees for anything that could come at them.
Dean looked again, crouching down next to it.
"I don't know..."
"Maybe this whole thing would be easier if we weren't being followed the whole time." Eden growled.
Before either could respond, she sped over to a tree a few dozen feet behind them and came out gripping a Leviathan by the back of the neck. The man in question had dark, centre-parted hair, a matching goatie and wore all black Hunter's gear.
"What the bloody hell do you want?" The Dark Angel sneered.
"You're right. It is a different corpse." Dean shrugged to Castiel before turning to the captured Leviathan.
"We saw you following us." Castiel asked.
"Thought you'd never make your move." The Winchester added. "Guess we were right, huh."
"What do you want?" The man asked. "Why are you here?"
"Well, it's a little embarrassing to say out loud, but we're looking for a flower." Dean told him.
"A flower? What do I look like, a florist?" The Leviathan scoffed, crying out when Eden's grip on his neck got significantly tighter.
"Well, if you can't help us... See this broom stick?" Dean held up his shotgun. "It's loaded with Borax-filled shells. You know what Borax does to Piranha-faced freaks like you? And that's just for start. See, this thing'll hurt. But you mess with little miss hormonal over there and she'll rip every single one of your bones out of your body and she'll name every damn one of 'em too."
"He's right, you know." Eden smirked, despite him not able to see her.
"We'd be happy to show you." Dean continued.
"We don't call it a flower." The Leviathan sighed. "There's a blossom. Grows out of the ground when we die."
"When... Leviathan die." Castiel clarified.
"Alright, okay. Cool." Dean said as he cocked the shotgun.
"I- Hey!" The man freaked, holding out his hands defensively. "The body has to rot. Could take months. And then these blossoms bloom. Ten husks, bloody red centre. I know a place, not far."
"And look at that. Thought you weren't a florist." Dean smirked. "Eden. You gotta leash or somethin' you can put him on?"
"Hey, I saw how fast she was, man. I'm not going anywhere." The Leviathan defended, but then, he paused. "Wait, Eden? As in Adam and Eve's kid?"
"Who wants to know?" Eden frowned.
"Oh..." The man chuckled. "All Leviathans have heard that story. God gave us our own Hell when we died because we freaked him out so much. But you? Man, he wishes he could be so lucky again."
He went to lead the way, thinking the half-baked story and the silence would change the subject for itself, but Dean stopped him, putting his hand on the man's chest.
"Wait. You know a Vamp around here named Benny? Burly guy. Cajun."
"No." The creature replied. "Heard of him, though. Everybody has. The guy who got out and then came back. Like an idiot."
"Pretty much." Dean tilted his head. "Where is he?"
"Dead. Long time ago. His own kind, they didn't trust him. They-" The Leviathan cut himself off, making a tearing noise and motion to match. "Ripped him apart."
"Alright, let's go..." Dean mumbled, shoving him forward.

Purgatory's dulled interpretation of daylight had fully set in as the three Hunters and the Leviathan walked alongside a blackened river.
"I'm sorry about Benny." Cas uttered.
"I owed him my life." Dean said. "And he sacrificed himself to get Sam out of this place."
"Well, this place will bring that out in you." The Angel replied. "Guilt... It was my fault the Leviathan got out, it was my fault we were here the first time, it was my fault Eden was taken from here and locked in Heaven's jail... I carry that guilt everyday."
"It wasn't your fault I was locked in Heaven's jail. It was Naomi's." Eden sighed.
"I should've checked on you, made sure you were back on Earth. But I-"
"We know you're sorry, Cas." Dean interjected. "About Benny, about mom, about Eden."
"I was talking about Jack, too." Cas pointed out. He looked to the Winchester, who said nothing. "I already apologised to you, you just refused to hear it."
"Sorry I brought it up." Dean mumbled. "Maybe if you didn't just up and leave us."
"You didn't give me a choice." The Angel retorted.
"Do we have to have a domestic now, boys?" Eden groaned, only to be ignored.
"You couldn't forgive me." Castiel continued. "And you couldn't move on. You were too angry. I left, but you didn't stop me."
Dean said nothing, choosing only to glare down the path they were headed.

Eventually, off in the distance, the four saw thick red petals protruding from the ground over a large clearing.
"That's them?" Eden asked, noticing the unmistakable skeletal remains of a Leviathan between the blooms.
"That's them." The man sighed. "Up this way, just like I promised."
"Alright. Cas, grab one. Let's get the Hell outta here." Dean instructed.
Castiel went to move, but couldn't.
"Pigeon?" Eden frowned.
"It's an Angel trap." He said.
Dean raised his shotgun to the Leviathan as the celestials looked around, seeing white markings on the floor in a fifteen foot diameter.
"This thing doesn't just hold Light Angels, neither." The man smirked to Eden, who glared back.
"You tricked us." Cas sneered.
"Mother's got beef with you." The Leviathan replied.
"Eve..."
"Mother?" Eden scrunched up her nose in disgust.
"Killing her Alphas, swallowing her Leviathan, keeping her daughter from her. Bringing you to her should earn us pretty decent reward. Having Eden with you? Well, that's just a damn blessing. Don't get many of those round here." The man chuckled.
"What do you mean 'us?'" The Winchester frowned.
"Dean!" Cas yelled, seeing approaching Leviathan behind him.
Dean grabbed one who'd managed to sneak up close enough to be within arm's reach. He threw it to the floor, cocked his shotgun and fired. The hole it left in the creature's chest spewed with a yellowish gas from the Borax shells.
"Dean!" Eden's eyes widened as another approached, but he wasn't as quick this time. With a rather large branch, the Leviathan swung and knocked the Winchester out cold with one blow to the head.
Several more came out from the treeline.
"Burn the blossom. Whatever they need it for, they're not getting it." The first Leviathan ordered. "Hurry up about it. We need to take these two to Mother."

The walk was long, to say the least. Eden kept checking her phone, seeing they had only three hours left by the time they reached a damp, dreary clearing.
"This is it? Seriously?" Eden scoffed, turning to the Leviathan behind her. "I'd have thought my mother would've gained some sense of style after she cracked."
"Look again." The Leviathan they'd previously captured smirked.
Eden frowned, glancing to Castiel, who looked equally confused.
Together, they turned around slowly.
The clearing was now heavily littered with hundreds of Leviathan, snapping their very large teeth in anticipation.
The horde parted in the middle, revealing a magnificent throne hand-carved from a tree stump, a woman with olive skin, flowing black hair, a grey linen tunic and a crown of deer antler sat upon it, her bright pale green eyes widening at what she saw.
She rose from the throne, her gaze fixed on Eden.
"Flower?" Her honey-smooth voice cracked with emotion.
"Mother?" Eden's icy-blues filled with hot tears and she broke into a run towards the woman, who held her arms open wide.
As they collided in along-awaited embrace, the Leviathan they'd captured shoved Castiel through the crowd towards them.
"Oh, my sweetest Flower. Words can't express how happy I am to see you again." Eve sniffed, cupping her daughter's tear-stained cheeks. "Look at the beautiful woman you've turned into."
"Why, mother? Why did you make these creatures?" Was all Eden had to say.
Eve hadn't been expecting that, clearly. She took a step back, lowering her hands.
"To get back at God for taking you from me, of course." She frowned.
"We've spent years together trying to get rid of them all." Cas spoke up. "Your daughter has spent millennia doing it."
Eve looked to him so fast, her neck could've snapped.
"I don't believe I asked you, Angel." She spat, looking back to the Dark Angel. "I know what you've been doing. It's been the talk of Purgatory."
"Then you should know that I've been working with the Winchesters as well." Eden's voice turned small, her shoulders curling into her body in submission.
"I do. That was quite... A shock." The Queen sighed. "You know they killed me?"
Eden nodded.
"I helped them." She admitted. "Though, in my defense, I wasn't myself. I had no memories of being me. I was under the guise of a Vampire named Elizabeth. I had no idea you were my mother."
Eve took another step back.
"My poor little Flower... What have they done to you?"
"They gave me a home. A family. Someone to care about and love and protect. They accepted me as a Vampire and they accept me as an Archangel of Darkness." Eden countered, finding her confidence again.
"And an atrocity." Eve glared down at her daughter's bump.
Eden's eyes narrowed, taking her own step back as her hand found her bump.
"My baby is nothing of the sort. You insult the happiness in what I've created, but look at what you've done. The only atrocities or abominations or disgraces here are your pets."
She gestured back to the crowd Leviathan awaiting orders or a need to attack.
Eve gave a pensive expression as a small hint of a smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
"We'll agree to disagree. I'm sure you didn't come here to fight with me after all these years."
Eden sighed, briefly looking down at the mud beneath her boots.
"I came here to find something and have a chance at seeing you again. I've had what I desired. But now, I'm running out of time to get what I need."
"What is it you need, Flower?" Eve frowned, closing the gap between them.
"A Leviathan Blossom." The Dark Angel replied, gesturing back to Castiel. "We need it to stop God for good and we need it fast, because we're running out of time."
Eve cocked a perfect brow.
"For good?" She repeated, earning a nod from her daughter. "Well, then... You shall have it and my best wishes."
The Queen snapped her fingers and over scuttled a male Leviathan with a blossom in hand, offering it out to Eden.
"Thank you, mother." She nodded.
"I give this to you in the hopes that you visit me again. Perhaps with my grandchild." Eve told her. "I don't want our contrasting pasts to come between us. We've been apart for far too long. I suppose I can get used to having a Nephilim in the family."
Eden took the blossom from the Leviathan and nodded.
"Should I get the opportunity to come back here, I will." She promised.
"Perhaps without the Angel. He causes an... Unrest here." Eve's gaze judgmentally scanned over Castiel's body as he glared at her.
Eden wrapped her arms around her mother's neck in an embrace, feeling Eve's snake around her growing middle.
"Thank you." The daughter whispered.
She parted from the woman and looked to Castiel, who nodded.
Together, they made their way through the middle of gathered Levathian, Gorilla Wolves, Vampires and everything else under the Purgatory sun, trying to plan out their method of reuniting with Dean and getting back to the portal before it closed up forever.
