Chapter One Hundred and Ninety-Five - Saved Your Life
After everything they'd been through not only in the last few months, but over the last decade, it was decided that the Bunker family deserved a hiatus before venturing back out on the hunt.
Eden spent her days reading, filling the Bunker with serene piano music or teaching Jorden the ways of the world.
Sam had been helping and keeping up with exercise, often being joined on his morning runs by his adoring daughter.
Dean had, at this point, taught Jorden how to pour the perfect glass of beer, much to Eden's disapproval.
Willow had taken it upon herself to teach Jorden more mundane things. She had decided to enroll at the local high school, quickly becoming labelled the 'goth' of the school, due to the fact that she had to carry a black parisole around for when the sun came out. It only made sense that her clothing should match. Those were her days and, come the evening, she would finish up her homework and help Jorden learn the more basic school subjects.
Castiel wouldn't have missed educating his niece for the world, assisting Eden with perfecting Jorden's powers and flying. He and his 'Little Bee' had become almost inseparable since she blackmailed the Empty into giving him back.
Though, Castiel wasn't the only one who had returned.
Miracle the dog was the latest member of the Winchester family. His naturally happy and bouncy nature lit up the Bunker in away nothing else could. He loved nothing more than squeezing himself between Dean and Castiel in bed, or becoming a makeshift blanket for Jorden when they had family movie nights in the Dean Cave. His favourite activity, however, was helping Eden make breakfast in the mornings – often having a slice or two of bacon made up for all his hard work as sous chef.
Sam wandered into the bedroom from his shower to see Eden already dressed and putting on light make-up.
"You're looking particularly beautiful this morning." He smiled to her through the mirror.
Eden smirked, turning around to greet his shirtless form with hungry eyes.
"Speak for yourself." She commented, gazing up and down his lean, muscular torso.
Sam chuckled, making his way over to take her waist and pull her into him.
"What's on the to-do list for today?" He asked, bending down slightly to nuzzle his face into the crook of her neck and pepper kisses along the skin.
"Oh, you know, last minute wedding details, flowers, food, picking up my dress, making sure Jorden's little bucket of flower petals is full... That sort of thing." She hummed, tipping her head back to give him better access. "But not much of that is getting done if you carry on like this..."
Sam stopped, his brows lifting.
"You're picking up your dress today?" He grinned. "Is it so close already?"
"Tomorrow, Sam. You're marrying me tomorrow." Eden giggled, poking the end of his nose with hers.
"So I am... What am I gunna do with you when you finally become Missus Winchester?"
"I don't know." The Dark Angel shrugged. "I suppose you'll have to love me forever."
Sam gave her a toothy smile, leaning down to peck her lips.
"Now that, I can do."
"What about you? What are you up to today?" Eden asked.
"Dean wants to go to this thing, just me and him. Said it was a surprise." Sam replied, letting her go so that he could put a shirt on. "I told him I have enough surprises on my plate with you not telling me where we're getting married, but he was adamant he wasn't saying anything."
"Sounds ominous. Have fun." Eden smirked, skipping out of the bedroom with an 'I love you' thrown over her shoulder.
"So, what's the big surprise brotherly bonding day you have planned?" Eden asked as she walked through the War room, seeing Dean on his laptop, sat at the library table.
Dean said nothing, only gave an open-mouthed grin as he spun his laptop screen towards her as she approached.
On the screen, in big red and blue text, was '43rd Annual Akron Pie Fest!'
"Yes, that certainly sounds like a surprise for Sam and definitely not a day where he's bored until he has to drive you back home because you're in a food coma due to eating both yours and his body weight in pie." The Dark Angel chuckled, shaking her head.
"Mom, are we ready to go? Jorden's just getting her shoes on." Willow wandered in from the kitchen with an uncharacteristic spring in her step.
"We're only going to collect and sort the last little bits before tomorrow. No need to be so joyous." Eden smirked.
"Hey, not everybody gets to see their parents get married. Even though you'll only tell Cas where." Willow shrugged. "Seriously. Who doesn't tell the freakin' groom where they're getting married?"
"All will explain itself tomorrow. I needed Pigeon in the know because he can help. Jorden will know first thing tomorrow morning so that she can assist with the guests and wedding party." Eden nodded affirmingly.
"I can't believe how seriously he's taking that secret. I've tried damn near everything to get it out of him." Dean rolled his eyes.
"Ready Momma!" Jorden came running into the library from the back of the room, squealing in her excitement.
"Alright. Dean, don't eat too much pie. Sam doesn't need his best man in a sugar-induced coma the day before his wedding." Eden cocked a playful brow.
"You're not my mom." The Winchester mumbled as the girls made their way out.
"No, but she'd say the same thing and you know she would. So hush up and act your age, not your little Dean size."
Driving behind the wheel of the Camaro again felt nothing short of blissful to Eden. The fact that she had her daughters riding in the passenger seats just made the whole thing that much more perfect.
They had the windows rolled down, the sun blaring above them and Twisted Sister playing through the speakers.
"We're not gunna take it! No, we ain't gunna take it! We're not gunna take it anymore!!" Jorden half sang, half screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Yeah, that's right. You tell 'em, baby." Eden smirked at her through the rear-view mirror.
"Just got a text from dad. Says they found a case John was working on a while back but obviously never finished. Apparently it's just a few Vampires so they should be okay, but he'll let us know if they need back-up." Willow read from her phone in her lap.
"So much for having our hiatus until after the wedding." Eden rolled her eyes.
"They'll be fine, Mom. It's just a few Vamps." The girl chuckled, texting Sam back and another number while she was at it.
"You've been glued to that thing for the past couple of months. Everything okay?" The Dark Angel noticed.
"Yeah, it's just a- a friend." Willow replied a little too quickly.
"Just a friend, huh? Must be a nice friend." Eden smirked.
The young Vampire didn't say anything for a few moments.
"Her name is Annabella." She replied in a small voice.
Eden's brows raised.
"And is she as pretty as her name?"
"More..." Willow curled in on herself, clearly a little embarrassed.
"Is she going to be more than a friend anytime soon?"
"Yeah, but she wants to come round and meet my crazy ass family and I don't know what to tell her."
"Tell her she's welcome round any time she wants." Eden shrugged.
"Mom..." Willow sighed, lulling her head round to look at the Dark Angel. "We live in a top secret underground Bunker specifically made for hunting and fighting supernatural monsters. She's gunna freak."
Eden chuckled.
"If she thinks its weird, then she can join the club. It's just whether or not she thinks its a good weird. Personally, I think most kids would find it pretty cool."
Later on that night, with Jorden in bed and Willow in her room, Eden was sat in the library, reading in one of the red leather-bound armchairs scattered across the outskirts of the room. That was, until she got a call.
"Ah, Impala occupant number two. However may I be of assistance at this hour?" She answered with a smirk.
"I can't believe you still have us listed as Impala One and Two in your phone." Sam chuckled. "But hey, listen, we caught one of the Vamps. He's taking us to the nest. The families they hit? They take the kids, raise them and bleed 'em, so we need to go get their latest victims. Thought I'd let you know in case anythi-"
"You're going into a Vampire nest on your own..." Eden interrupted just as Castiel entered the Bunker. "No, that's not happening. Pigeon just came home, so I'll ask him to look after Jorden. Me and Willow are on our way. Don't do anything 'Winchester stupid' until we get there."
"We don't know what we're gunna be dealing with when we show up. We might have to fight first and think later. Just hurry." Sam sighed.
"Quick as I can." Eden nodded, hanging up. "Hey, Pigeon. Need you on Jorden duty. Willow and I need to go help the boys on their case."
"Their case? They only went to a pie festival." Cas frowned.
"Yeah, I know. You know what they're like. They're bloody monster magnets. We'll be back in a few hours." The Dark Angel rolled her eyes, getting up to jog towards Willow's room.
"Eden and Willow are gunna zap in any minute. Maybe we should wait for them before we go charging in." Sam sighed, looking out of the windshield at the huge run down barn Dean had pulled up at.
"Come on, man." Dean scoffed. "It's a few Vamps. We've been hunting these things since forever. We don't need the big guns on this one."
"Fine." The younger brother huffed. "But you're not using that ninja star thing you've been keeping in the trunk."
Dean's brows knitted together in obvious disappointment.
"Look, one; its called a freakin' Shuriken. And two, I never get to use it. You never know, it might come in handy."
"A tiny little thing like that isn't going to come in handy with Vamps, Dean. It's not big enough to decapitate a baby, let alone a whole nest of Vampires." Sam rolled his eyes.
"Damn, decapitating babies? We've been on that hiatus too long, Sammy. You're getting twisted." Dean scoffed, getting out of the car. "How about this for a Winchester style bachelor party, huh?"
The barn at least seemed empty. But the feeling the brothers got when they walked in with their machetes at the ready told them different. A clattering sound came from a tiny room at the back left corner only confirmed that.
Slowly, with their weapons raised, the brothers made their way over to it, Dean reaching for the door handle. He opened it quickly, but realised it was only the two young boys they'd been looking for.
"Hey, boys. Okay, come on. Stay behind us, we're gunna keep you safe." Dean told them.
Turning back towards the exit revealed four members of the Vamp nest wearing sinister looking skull masks, each carrying a machete of their own.
"Go. Go, run." Sam urged the boys, pointing them in the direction of a set of double doors at the back of the barn.
"Right." Dean nodded, making his way towards the monsters.
Sam made the first move, kicking the biggest one of his pair in the stomach, making him fall back a few paces.
Dean expertly dodged a machete coming at him from his largest Vamp, managing to dodge the second one in the process.
He shoved the one now behind him and waged into a machete fight with the other one.
Sam punched one of his, giving him the chance to swing his weapon, decapitating the Vamp with ease.
The other charged the younger brother, tackling him and throwing him to the ground.
A flustered Sam dropped his machete with a loud clatter of metal on wood.
By the main entrance to the barn, Dean swiped and decapitated one of his Vamps just milliseconds after knocking the other one back.
He caught the Vamp's machete-weilding arm, kneeing it to make the Vamp lose his grip on his weapon.
The Vamp that'd tackled Sam was now on top of him, punching him in the face repeatedly until he was out cold.
The two remaining creatures grabbed hold of Dean and threw him and them down into a broken up hay bail, then pinned him by the shoulders and arms to the floor.
A female Vampire dressed in all black sauntered in with a smirk on her face.
"I know you..." Dean frowned up at her. "Jenny. Son of a bitch!"
He recalled back to almost fifteen years ago when he and Sam had saved her from another nest.
"Hey, Dean." She kept her smug smirk apparent on her face as the male Vamps picked the Winchester up, holding him away from Jenny.
"Well, look at you." Dean chuckled, turning to one of the Vamps holding him. "You know, we tried to kill each other back in the day. Yeah, this is so weird. It's like running into somebody in high school, you know? Somebody you don't wanna see. Well, ya look good. You do. I mean, a little dead, but... Uh, good."
"Thanks." Jenny tipped her head.
"So, what are you? You're like the big boss or something?" The older brother smiled.
"No." Jenny shook her head. "I just called dibs."
She hissed and bore her fangs, but just as she did, Sam crept up behind her and sliced her head off in one solid swoop.
As soon as her body dropped to the floorboards, Dean yanked his right arm free and punched the Vamp holding his left in the crotch.
Punches, kicks and throws were sent everywhere.
Sam gripped the machete in his hand with all he had as the Vamp took every opportunity to make him falter.
Dean was thrown back, narrowly missing a rebar hook nailed into one of the barn's support pillars.
Sam shoved his Vamp back into the barn wall, giving him a small window to collect himself and swing his machete straight through the creature's neck.
Dean charged at the only remaining Vamp.
It tackled him and pushed him back towards the pillar when Eden and Willow zapped into the room.
The older brother was shoved straight into Eden's front.
Willow jumped onto the Vamp's back, supported herself with his shoulders and ripped his head off with one foul twist, taking his spine with his head to throw to the ground.
"Nice timing." Dean panted, bending over and resting his hands on his knees to catch his breath.
"I thought Mom told you not to do anything stupid." Willow snapped.
"We're all okay, right? What's the big deal?" The older brother huffed.
He was about to say something else when a gargled choke came from behind him.
"Eden?" Sam's eyes widened at what he saw.
There hung a very limp Archangel of Darkness, the piece of sharp rebar hook impaled through her throat, dripping with thick, deep red arterial blood. Dean had slammed into her and shoved her against the wooden pillar he'd narrowly escaped once before.
Willow gulped, apologising before making a swift exit.
The brothers ran to Eden's aid, pulling her off of the rebar.
'You're welcome.' She signed to Dean.
"Yeah, thanks, Vampy Pants. Pretty sure you just saved my life." He nervously chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
The Dark Angel simply rolled her eyes in response, her fingers delicately feeling around her blood-drenched wound.
"We should get you home." Sam nodded, placing a hand on the small of her back to lead them back to the Impala.
