THIRTY SIX
You get a double today because this was too much to fit into one chapter.
This is also another musical chapter (yes, I like to do these). Each song is important but if you aren't going to listen to them all the last one is a must. DO NOT SKIP IT!
Adam slammed his second shot and was about to order a third when Chance pulled him away from the bar and outside. "Adam, alcohol isn't going to solve your problems." Chance said once they made it out the doors.
"Perhaps not, but maybe I can at least forget about them for awhile." Adam retorted as he pushed by Chance and went back inside.
"It's going to be a long damn night" Chance murmured to himself as he reentered the pub. He was relieved to see Adam back at the table and not at the bar. The waitress was taking orders so Chance hurried back to the table. He had to make sure Adam ate something substantial if he was going to be drinking tonight.
Adam gave the waitress his food order and asked to change his drink as well. Chance sighed when he heard Adam ask for a rum and coke instead of just a coke. Adam was up and moving again after the waitress left. Chance watched Adam head for the jukebox.
Adam appeared to be picking quite a few songs. The first song started:

"Fuck" Chance muttered. "It's going to be that kind of night."
Rob turned towards Chance "Did you say something?
"I said 'Fuck. It's going to be that kind of night." Chance whispered to Rob. "Adam's already had two shots, he's ordered another drink, and he's picking music. Listen to this song and the rest. I bet we hear a theme."
Chance turned back to the jukebox but Adam was no longer there. His eyes scanned the room and landed on Adam just in time to see him at the bar downing another shot. Chance jumped out of his seat to retrieve Adam. "Will you slow down?" He hissed out at the blond. "You're the lightweight in this group remember."
When the pair got back to the table Chance took Adam's seat and put Adam between he and Rob. Chance texted Rob "I'm going to need your help with him tonight."

The next song started just as Rob checked his text. He nodded his head at Chance and then sent his reply "I'm guessing your talk today didn't go well."
Chance replied to Rob while the waitress set down their meals and drinks. "It went okay. Exactly what we thought. He was doing alright until Dena said she wasn't leaving tomorrow." When Chance looked up from his phone he saw that Adam had already finished his first drink and was asking the waitress for another one.
"If you don't slow down with alcohol and eat some food, Rob and I are going to have to carry you out of here." Chance grumbled at Adam.
Adam glared at Chance "Yes, Father!" He spat out. "You remember I'm an adult right?"
Chance was just about to fire back at Adam when he heard the next song start. It reminded him that he needed to treat Adam with kid gloves right now.

Chance took a deep, calming breath "Would you please eat something? You don't want to spend the night vomiting right?"
Adam had to admit that Chance was right. He needed to eat or he was going to end up with alcohol poisoning. It had been a long time since he had more than a one or two drinks in a night and he's already three shots, and a mixed drink, and was about to start another.
Everyone but Adam finished their dinners. Chance noticed that Adam had eaten about half his and while it wasn't enough it was much more than he had been eating the rest of the week.
Adam elbowed Chance in the ribs. "Ow, what the hell was that for Adam?" Chance said as he looked down the table and realized everyone was looking at him.
"Earth to Chance" Tim laughed "Man, you were zoned out there for a minute. You okay?"
"Uh, yeah, sorry." Chance chuckled "Just deep in thought. You know how I get."
Chance tried to focus on the conversation but Adam's next song choice drew his attention.

Chance's phone buzzed with a text alert while he was listening to the song. It was from Adam: "Perfect timing isn't it? The song says 'look right through me' when that is exactly what Tim is doing to me. Doesn't notice me for a week but when you zone out for a second he's worried".
Chance looked up from his phone in time to see that Adam had finished his second rum and coke and was flagging down the waitress, presumably to get order another one. Chance waved that waitress off. "You're done with the alcohol, Adam. Drink some water."
If looks could kill Chance would be dead. The alcohol was taking affect and Adam was talking very slowly "I thought we es...estab...established, that's it, that you aren't my father."
"No, Adam, I'm your friend. And I'm not going to sit here and let you kill yourself with alcohol. Now, drink the damn glass of water and then I'm taking you to the hotel so you can sleep this off."
Chance turned his attention to Rob, "Can you call for a ride and then help me get him back?" Rob just nodded his head as he pulled out his phone.
"Ooooh, my laaaast song is playing" Adam slurred out. Chance was afraid to listen.

Chance leaned his elbows on the table and rested his head in his hands. Adam was killing him with these song choices. How were Tim and Jenika still so oblivious to Adam's pain?
Adam leaned over and whispered to Chance, "It's true, you know. He is the air I breathe. I'll suffocate without him."
As much as Chance wanted to laugh at his cheesiness he had to admit that Adam's words had brought him to tears. He was so glad his face was hidden in his hands.
Rob helped Chance get Adam out of the pub and eventually into bed back at the hotel. Chance shooed Rob out of the room, "I'm going to stay with him. If I need anything I'll call you. Just leave your ringer on, okay?"
"Will you just go to sleep? How are you even still awake?" Chance huffed out. He was exasperated with Adam. It was like dealing with a child. He wanted a drink of water, he had to pee again, now he wanted his headphones because he can't sleep without his music.
Adam finally fell asleep once he picked a song to listen to. Chance tried to get as comfortable as possible on the love seat. He was hoping to get at least a few hours sleep.
Chance was awoken by the sound of a body hitting the wall. He sat straight up as his eyes flew open. Adam had his hand over mouth and was trying to make it to the bathroom. Chance helped him to the floor in front of the toilet and pulled his hair back into a ponytail before leaving the bathroom. He wasn't good with vomit. If he had to smell that he would be vomiting too.
"Where is that music coming from?" Chance wondered aloud. He turned the light on and spotted Adam's earbuds on the floor. The cord must have pulled out of the phone when he jumped out of bed. Chance picked the earbuds up off the floor and set them next to Adam's phone.
He got a few steps away when it suddenly hit him what the lyrics in the song had just said. He snatched Adam's phone off the nightstand and restarted the song so he could hear all of it.

Chance fell to the floor and dropped the phone as he listened.
